Here's my thing - if you want to 'ground it' more in the sense of say - making Mr. Freeze an actual serious villain with motivations and character despite his icy demeanor like what we got in the animated series, not what we got in the 60's series or turning him in to an ice pun machine like Schumacher did - fine, I agree. You maybe want to scale back the exact level of Poison Ivy's abilities because sometimes they go a bit far (like the plant people that look exactly like humans in TAS where Bruce marries one) - again, fine. But I'm tired of overly grounding characters where it has to be 'realistic'. He may be more grounded but we are still talking about a rich guy dressing up as a bat using ninja skills to enforce vigilante justice in this bullet proof or resistant costume - it's already pretty fantastical. It overly limits some of the story telling options, and takes out the fact that against someone like Ivy, who's powers can make her very dangerous and yes would normally be better to send in another meta-human, he's using his brain usually to out wit opponents vastly stronger and more powerful than him - and Batman's brain and planning ahead is basically his superpower.
This is good. Leave all the fantastical villains to Gunn's DCU. It would also help all the casual moviegoers be less confused from having two cinematic Batman's going on simultaneously. With that said, I hope part 2 has more action though. I'm a fan of the first one, but just wish there were more action.
So basically he wants to try and do what Chris Nolan did in his dark knight trilogy. Because being as grounded as possible was a main concept of those movies.
Not really Mat Reeves main focus is grounded takes on batman, batman is the first deal and then Gotham and then villains. Its basically what comics batman and his world would be if it's exist in our real life. And Nolan one was more of batman living in Chicago and villains being criminals
This is great but didn't we just do that in the Nolan Universe? Granted there are plenty of good villains to choose from but I'm sad that we still aren't at a place post-MCU that we can get crazy with Gotham\Batman.
Historically Batman exists in a world that includes supernatural and fantasy elements. If these filmmakers can't embrace that, they should not be making Batman movies. They should create their own stories and stop messing with things that people love the way they are. The technology now exists to make an incredible Clayface, but if people like Reeves are making these movies, it will be some disgusting human face wearing serial killer, and we've seen that already way better than he can ever do it. I hated his changes to the lore in the first movie, and I don't expect to like his choices in the sequel.
Give me Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, and Clayface already. Give me the Arkham video games meets the animated series. Imagine if Marvel did this. Why are the creators at WB so ashamed of these properties? These are fantastical properties.

As much as I'm still looking forward to this sequel, after hearing this, it sounds like we're gonna have another Christopher Nolan trilogy on our hands. I was still holding out a lil hope that Reeves wouldn't limit the franchise too much into the grounded take like Nolan did, but it looks like that won't be happening. You can do Batman right and still make it feel grounded. Batman still does detective work even with super villains. We don't need him to actually feel like he's a part of this world. Nolan did that, it was good for what it was, now lets move on. Hopefully James Gunn comes through with his Batman casting, but I'm starting to be a lil skeptical of that too now after the Hal Jordan rumors.

Gunn has implied a couple times that the DCU's Batman will just a smidge older than Superman, maybe a couple years. My guess is, by the time "The Brave and The Bold" comes out, Batman will be portrayed as being in either his mid to late 30's, which suits him well and still leaves room for Damian to show up. Also, we very likely will see Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, and Tim Drake all show up. What this means is that, while Damian and (maybe briefly) Tim may be the only ones being shown in the Robin role, it means we'll be seeing Dick as Nightwing (which Gunn has already basically pointed to in his interview with Michael Rosenbaum when he spoke of bringing a sense of worldbuilding to Blüdhaven), very possibly we'll see Jason as Red Hood, and we also could see Tim as Red Robin. We may not see them all as Robin, but I bet we'll see all of them in the DCU.
Grounding Batman takes away many of his greatest villains and diminishes many others. The Court of Owls everyone is clamoring for would not have the immortal assassins. No Poison Ivy, no Lazarus Pits for Ra's, no accurate Bane, no Man-Bat, no accurate Mr. Freeze or Clayface, etc.

In my opinion for "batman 2" they should just make a murder mystery without any known batman villains. I would love to see something more like "death on the nile" with some fight scenes. One of the things that disappointed me with "the batman" was the villains. I just thought it was awkward when catwoman said she had nine lives. Pretty much the only other thing that disappointed me was that it wasn't much of a murder mystery. There was only one suspect.
The great thing about Scarecrow, and even Mad Hatter to an extent, is that you can do the fantastical without doing the fantastical. The episode Purchance to Dream from the animated series does such a good job with Mad Hatter, it's gotta be my favorite episode.
I've heard a lot of people suggesting Court of Owls. I'm half and half on it. Mainly because I would love to see them in the DCU, where you get to see the whole Batfamily interact with the Court of Owls and the Talons. Plus you can go big with it. I wouldn't be disappointed if they appear in the Batman universe, that would still be cool. Just feel like we can have a bigger, more grandeur storyline with them in the DCU.
That's fine. There are going to be two versions of Batman coming out. There's room to tell stories with different villains. Batman has some grounded villains that could really work. Court of Owls, Professor Pig, Calendar Man, Hush, Black Mask, Hugo Strange.
I'm just waiting for James Gunn's DCU Batman. He will give us something fresh. Nolan was the last director to give us something fresh. The Reeves film is more of what we got with Nolan a grounded Batman. How can you ground Mister Freeze? Give him frostbite, put him in a hazmat suit, and have him dip people in liquid nitrogen.
I second this, I’m more excited by what Gunn is gonna do with Batman than what Reeves is doing, and I really liked The Batman. I’m just more interested in a live action Batman who’s more akin to the sci-fi fantasy world of the Arkham games.
This is honestly the greatest because it’s realistic , it feels more surreal even with the combat choice of style as well I think bringing a little supernatural won’t hurt
So what's different between his Batman and Nolans? Hes not doing anything different. I enjoyed his version but its not printing anything new to the table.
I just want a new new with supernatural elements added like in the old batman movies now because of Christopher Nolan were not getting that as much anymore, now matt reeves wants to do the same thing. That sucks.
Just about any Batman villain can be "grounded" if they are committed to re-writing them and only taking elements and inspiration from the comics. Just takes a good concept and quality writing.
Hasn’t all the villains in the past Batman movies been grounded? I mean, a Clayface creature would have been awesome to see…because we’ve never seen anything like that on the big screen.
I'm down with this. Pushing just before the edge of the truly fantastical is perfect. He mentioned Gentleman Ghost and uncoincidentally that was one of the worst episodes of Caped Crusader which Reeves helped produce. As a lifelong Batman fan, there are aspects of the comics that I don't like myself. The more fantastical elements of the Batman mythos aren't interesting. All the goated Batman Comic stories are grounded. And he's better used when given a sense of realism and verisimilitude. Batman still has a plethora of grounded villains for Reeve to use and I'm excited for what's next. Comic accuracy is also the proper depiction of how a character moves, behaves and reacts in a situation. Not just the color of a costume. Bring on The Batman Part 2 and The Penguin.
If he took inspiration from Batman Caped Crusader, I think Clayface almost becomes more easier to include than Mr Freese. I hope Revees stays away from Bane and Scarecrow as Nolan already covered them in a somewhat grounded way. I think Professor Pig would be a great edition or scarface, also maybe bring in Zues (forgot how to spell his first name) who just a crime boss who thinks he is the Greek God Zues. It would be a bit weird maybe use him more as a secondary villain
I find it insanely annoying how they deliberately keep going out of their way in limiting themselves with Batman's rogues gallery in live-action movies. If they don't want to include supervillains then they shouldn't make superhero movies.
@IrishPride7 so , in his entire inception. Batman who was no superpowers has taken down super criminals that have powers. Ar u saying that every hero who was no powers should be treated like this as well. A lot of ppl don't know this, but that's one of his biggest appeals that he can take down somone like clayface. N still come out on top. Besides this is a man who dresses himself like a bat. Like have fun with it. Even the batman movie had some comic booky elements in there. They did call him vengeance. After all.
There’s so many villain options that could be used in the Batman universe, I think mr freeze could work, definitely scarecrow, Also think we could get ones like deathstroke, deadshot, bane, hush, the court of owls including talon, professor pig and ra’s there’s so much potential
@@RUclips_Street_Drifter we’ve only seen him once the pit isn’t the only good thing about the character I’m sure there would be plenty of ways they cud take the character
We probably won't get a Poison Ivy or Mr. Freeze then. I want to see them do Two-Face again, or a villain that will lean on Batman's detective side like the Riddler did.
Yay, so Condiments King is going to finally get the cinematic respect that he never got in the animated Batman series, Thank you Mr. Reeves,😂. Seriously though in the Batman world totally agree with grounded more realistic villians.
I I thought I was gonna hate this because I’m kind of sick of the grouted villains. But I actually really like that Matt Reeves quote, A lot of the more “fantastical“ villains pushed to the very edge where realism meets the bizarre, could be really cool
Clay face can be done. It would be mission impossible ish with the masks and perhaps his actual "ability" is being a genius at replicating voices and sounding like other persons, kinda like that villain from "Smokin aces" who did hugo
They could totally do Clayface. That’s the one character I really want Reeves to do. They can make him like Leatherface and cut the face off his victims take them and molds them to his face to be someone else it would be grotesque and would be fucking awesome lol
I think any Batman villain can be actualized in the Reeves' universe. Clayface could be a plastic surgeon who operates on himself and only strikes once a year
This is why this reboot is garbage. Whether you liked the movie or not. We already had a hugely successful grounded nolan trilogy and now we got another. We needed a reboot with a fantasy supernatural comic accurate batverse.
If you don't like this version then watch the Nolan trilogy what's stopping you? I like the Nolan trilogy to but has its faults I'm loving this Reeves version and take on Batman. What's a reboot? These are not reboots they are different versions and takes if you wanna watch the fantastical stuff then watch the cartoons until fantastical Batman movies are been made again atleast we are getting different movies takes and styles of Gotham and Batman.
What are you on about? Did I mention anywhere I didnt like this film? We already have a trilogy of grounded version batman. We needed a fantasy one. Like you mentioned we have to resort to cartoons because the lack of it in cinema. This version AGAIN is a grounded version which we previously had it's just with different stories, tone and actors.
I just want Clayface & Professor Pyg … This news kinda leans toward Professor Pyg being possible, buddy better not go Joker & Two Face 😭😭 Deathstroke needed as well !!!!
I get what he's saying and I even agree with it. Now do I want to see more fantastical characters for sure, but I do trust Hollywood would get a Clayface, Gentlemen Ghost, or Nocturna right? Hell no! I think for liveaction you've got tons of batman characters you could do that would be more interesting from a psychological point of view which is where Batman tends to shine the best.
I don't know why he's so concerned with being grounded seeing that this Batman is indestructible, with a super powered suit made of vibranium and adamantium.
I’ve seen a lot of zombies. K2 zombies primarily. Ever been to Los Angles, Los Vegas, Miami, Houston, Chicago, NYC, Detroit, or Philadelphia? Solomon Grundy as a brutal shotcaller/ kingpin/ dealer & user. Bane as a violent & truly vicious cartel boss/ dealer & user of Venom.

Pretty much the only other thing that disappointed me was that it wasn't much of a murder mystery. There was only one suspect.
Mr freeze, dead shot or deathstroke I would love to see in the next movie.
The great thing about Scarecrow, and even Mad Hatter to an extent, is that you can do the fantastical without doing the fantastical. The episode Purchance to Dream from the animated series does such a good job with Mad Hatter, it's gotta be my favorite episode.
but doing the sa,me with scarecrow that nolad did is boring most likley to reeves
maybe, but Nolan didn't do a whole lot with Scarecrow in terms of visuals
Deathstroke
Court of Owls, Deacon Blackthorn, Victor Zsasz, Black Mask, Rupert Thorn, Sewer King, Red Claw.. among others.
Well there goes my predictions. 😅 I guess we will have to wait for the DCU to see the more theatrical villans.
Black Mask would fit for sure.
he has already been done not long ago and a do not want another joker
I've heard a lot of people suggesting Court of Owls. I'm half and half on it. Mainly because I would love to see them in the DCU, where you get to see the whole Batfamily interact with the Court of Owls and the Talons. Plus you can go big with it. I wouldn't be disappointed if they appear in the Batman universe, that would still be cool. Just feel like we can have a bigger, more grandeur storyline with them in the DCU.
Watch the new Batman animated series and you’ll see how they can do A grounded Clay Face
That's fine. There are going to be two versions of Batman coming out. There's room to tell stories with different villains. Batman has some grounded villains that could really work. Court of Owls, Professor Pig, Calendar Man, Hush, Black Mask, Hugo Strange.
Come on, we got to have Condiment King. What’s more grounded than ketchup and mustard?!
I prefer it when they stretch reality, like in Tim Burton's Batman or the Arkham Games.
Some arkham game opps fasho can exist in this world though
@@AliFrankTheTank Not really. The Batman is so grounded that even the gliding scene felt out of place.
Apparently Gunn is going full Sci Fi/ fantasy with the DCU, which I think is the better way to go, the “grounded” approach is too limiting I think
I second this, I’m more excited by what Gunn is gonna do with Batman than what Reeves is doing, and I really liked The Batman. I’m just more interested in a live action Batman who’s more akin to the sci-fi fantasy world of the Arkham games.
@@emoney6692 I didn't like Batman 2022 as I thought it was a mediocre 4/10 film. Nevertheless, I agree with everything else.
This is honestly the greatest because it’s realistic , it feels more surreal even with the combat choice of style as well I think bringing a little supernatural won’t hurt
Translation he'll only use the boring Batman character's that have been done to death instead of being comics accurate with fantastical character
If you find them boring than you're not a fan.
People don’t realize we’ve never had a true detective batman. Those best mystery movies have grounded villians.
They could do calendar, man, man murders on holidays or something
This should surprise no one, people who keep insisting that Clayface was going to be the villain made no sense.
You’re talking about that rumor from a while ago? Yeah it was weird that people believed that.
So what's different between his Batman and Nolans? Hes not doing anything different. I enjoyed his version but its not printing anything new to the table.
Looking forward to both Reeves grounded Batman and the DCUs fantastical iteration 🔥
I just want a new new with supernatural elements added like in the old batman movies now because of Christopher Nolan were not getting that as much anymore, now matt reeves wants to do the same thing. That sucks.
Court of owls will be goated idea
And it has reference on 1st movie.
Will we finally see Condiment King?!
Didn't we already get a grounded take with Christopher Nolan's trilogy? Enough already!
This news isn't new. Reeves already said this 3+ years ago 😅
Just about any Batman villain can be "grounded" if they are committed to re-writing them and only taking elements and inspiration from the comics. Just takes a good concept and quality writing.
I think they kinda set up the potential of using Hush in the first movie. Maybe it's a third film villain. Court of Owls would be awesome.
Hasn’t all the villains in the past Batman movies been grounded? I mean, a Clayface creature would have been awesome to see…because we’ve never seen anything like that on the big screen.
Is that also counting Schumacher?
Didn't we already get this trilogy from Christopher Nolan. Hes just basically remaking it sooo wtf
I hope I get to see a live action Clayface at some point.
That "you dont believe in ghosts John, c'mon.." 😂
If he took inspiration from Batman Caped Crusader, I think Clayface almost becomes more easier to include than Mr Freese. I hope Revees stays away from Bane and Scarecrow as Nolan already covered them in a somewhat grounded way. I think Professor Pig would be a great edition or scarface, also maybe bring in Zues (forgot how to spell his first name) who just a crime boss who thinks he is the Greek God Zues. It would be a bit weird maybe use him more as a secondary villain

@@lewieanderson6579 thank you
Cause a guy dressing up as an emo Bat is so grounded
I find it insanely annoying how they deliberately keep going out of their way in limiting themselves with Batman's rogues gallery in live-action movies. If they don't want to include supervillains then they shouldn't make superhero movies.
Batman is not a superhero though he's a normal guy with gadgets and skills he has no superpowers.
After all.
I want a comic accurate Batman and rogues. Should be a no brainer.
There’s so many villain options that could be used in the Batman universe, I think mr freeze could work, definitely scarecrow, Also think we could get ones like deathstroke, deadshot, bane, hush, the court of owls including talon, professor pig and ra’s there’s so much potential
I don't wanna see Ra's anymore unless it's fantastical and including the Lazarus Pit
@@RUclips_Street_Drifter we’ve only seen him once the pit isn’t the only good thing about the character I’m sure there would be plenty of ways they cud take the character
The newest batman and joker films are so joyless and the title characters barely recognisable as who they’re supposed to be. Needs a look at, stat
Mad Hatter would be a good fit
I can see clayface as a serial killer with body suits, wigs/ tupès, makeup and contact lenses in a secret closet.
How about the Penny Plunderer, Cat King, and Snow Flame
We probably won't get a Poison Ivy or Mr. Freeze then. I want to see them do Two-Face again, or a villain that will lean on Batman's detective side like the Riddler did.
ivy could if she use drug to manipulate like scarecrow did in nolans universe
Mr. Freeze could still work.
@@Iwilloneclayface may work to if Reeves use gold age version of clayfce like in cape crusader
I would like to see Hugo Strange or deathstroke!
Clay face can be done. It would be mission impossible ish with the masks and perhaps his actual "ability" is being a genius at replicating voices and sounding like other persons, kinda like that villain from "Smokin aces" who did hugo
I hope we see some Batman villains who deserves better treatment from their previous appearances like Scarecrow and Mr. Freeze.
Clayface could be a plastic surgeon who operates on himself and only strikes once a year
The actor is going to be 50 by time the next movie comes out.
I’m happy we’ll get grounded stuff from Matt reeves but I can not wait for some supernatural Batman stuff in the movies
You could use Birthday Boy!
Dont watch it then and wait for a fantastical version other people liked the Batman and wanna see more of Reeves take and verse.
@@IrishPride7👎🏽
@@ZAYA.21Stick to Arnie as Mr.Freeze then
I just want Clayface & Professor Pyg …
This news kinda leans toward Professor Pyg being possible, buddy better not go Joker & Two Face 😭😭 Deathstroke needed as well !!!!
