- How to DEBADGE a CAR - DetailingTheWhiteWay Series
► Process recap.
1 - After washing the vehicle, heat the badges with a hairdryer or heatgun
2 - Using fishing line or dental floss, cut through the adhesive
3 - Reapplying a little heat, gently work/rub/pick away the excess residue (don't be worried about scratching the surface, we need to polish the area yet anyway!)
4 - Using a tar & glue remover, clean up the remaining residues (apply chemical to cotton make up pads and leave in place for a couple of minutes to soften further)
5 - Polish the paint by hand or machine to restore paintwork clarity and remove any remaining traces of outlines or stubborn stains

Old vid, but I just removed some badges on my A7 using these methods and wanted to thank you for the excellent tutorial. It was pretty tough getting the adhesive off...not a fun time. I would gladly pay someone to do it for me the next go round! However, everything turned out really well and the back of my car looks much less cluttered now. Thanks again Jim!
5:25 is where it actually starts. You're welcome.
A lot of extra waffle in this video for sure. The whole thing could've been covered in the same amount it took to just get started
Thanks, I was just about to thumbs down and exit after watching the first 45 seconds
Hey Jim! I just want to say thank you for motivating me to have a go at detailing. I really appreciate your attention to detail. I recently bought my dream car and I intend on trying out all your techniques to bring it back to best. Keep up the great work!
At the dealership I worked at, the TECH's just used a Hair Dryer, to carefully heat the badge (until the goo was soft) and peel it off. We got a lot of Station Wagons (from Canada) with "Buick" marks instead of our "Oldsmobile" ones.
Thanks again Jim. I wish I could say more than just thanks. I’ve learnt a great deal from you. You give so much of your time and wisdom to the detailing world.
I just hope you know we do appreciate you. Please look after yourself and your mental health.
Theres something deeply theraputic watching you work your magic on these cars. Thanks for taking the time to show us 👍
Your detailing is impeccable but as I watched you fling bits of adhesive on the tile floor, I was wondering who cleans your garage?
I know this is old, but is there a quick way of being able to tell if a badge has a post or is just glued on? Thank you!
So do you need a new badge if you take it off to say wrap the car? Or can you put new glue on the old one?
1) Floss badge off
2) Buff off foam and adhesive with WD40 on clean towel.
3) Rinse
Done.
3:33 finally got my question answered. I can move on now
I’m generally a fan of “less is better” on badges, is cleaner & tidier looking overall, plus much easier to wash the car as the badges don’t get in the way of the detailing.
Keep it Mr white 👌
Hey Jem just wanted to say I'm no pro but why all the water splashing in the car?
Is it not worth giving the remaining adhesive a gentle soapy wash before you grind any dirt and grit that's founds its way in behind the badges before re-heating and rubbing your fingers over it to remove the remainder since you were so careful up to that point no to damage the paint?
what if you want to re apply the old badge (mine is in great shape) what do you use, tape, or glue?
Jim at 12:45 reminds me of the old saying "I see no ships" hahahaha,
Informative video would still love to see an old junker of a car given the Jim White treatment.
Greetings,
As always another brilliant detailed video 🇺🇸🍾🎉🇺🇸
Keep producing more videos.
One day I want to get a M3 and rebadge it as a 320
@Jason Clark That's the point of the joke
Thats just dumb, what makes more sense is what I did, I got a 2004 325ci convertible that has the s54 naturally aspirated motor and single turbo along with the smg 2 6 speed transmission, weight reduction, sports package, lowered 2 inches, car on the outside looks full stock, people pull up to race acting hard and get dusted, nothing but taillights, ironically im watching this video because im thinking about turning it into a full M3, thats what I love about bmw, you can literally buy the m3 parts even the hinges for the body kit and it all is already drilled and ready to mount, just buy what you need and mounts right in place
Ultimate troll move.. Get a 320d badge to make it even better
@@sasukeuchihaanbucapt that’s the pros of a bmw but the cons with maintenance can suck my ass
Lol I got a 135i with a 116d badge on it
Get them off is certainly a lot easier than re-applying them. I would love to know how to do that?
Everytime I watch your videos it gives me inspiration to go polish mine. Thank you very much!
Why bother with a TV licence. Far more interesting things to watch on this tube. Love your content as always.
Claybaring works pretty good to get rid of that outline if you dont have a mechanical polisher and dont want to buy one
As always I love watching your work Jim! Unbelievable results always 😊
Thanks Jim....Love the instructions and the vehicle...Stunning. Keep up the great work.
Do you have advice or a video showing how to remove harsh water spots from matte paint finish? My shark fin antenna on my pick up truck is matte and has received water spots that do not come off with a water spot remover...
Jim could you put a ceramic coating on before reapplying the badges or would it be better to apply badges then coat?
Not jim but I'd worry about it adhering to the paint over a coating. Would definitely reapply badges first.
Sharing with you in my experience, I don't use heat just waxed thread and later a glue remover like Goo Gone or a Citrus based cleaner to clean up remaining glue too. I have used Wonder Wheel which is a decal remover eraser wheel, it removes car decals, vinyl and stickers really fast since it is attached to a drill. It is about 4 inches.
Im putting an f150 badge on my fusion whos gonna try and stop me?
Is there a way to tell if the emblem was screwed in? My friend says he's positive that if I remove the emblems from my car it will expose little pinholes.
Can anyone help me please!! I added super glue to my front 2-piece car emblem because it was coming apart. But now i have a smear and a foggy white color on the plastic. Is there any safe way to clean off the super glue without messing up the plastic.
Hi Jim, thanks for making all the great videos! best binge watching! I was hoping you might have some tips, or when the opportunity arises to discuss/demonstrate removing swirls and scratches from a windscreen. I have corrected 4 cars now following your fastidious modus operandi with great results. Glass seems to prove far more challenging, whether this is due to the brevity of cutting or products used i'm not sure. Products include: "Carpro Ceriglass, glass cutting pad and a Rupes bigfoot. Anyway as aforementioned thanks again for the great Videos keep up the great work!
G’day Jim, I had the CSI badge that sits after V6 on the right side of the Toyota Camry Wagon tailgate came off about 2 years ago leaving the raised adhesive crusty and cracked. Is there any difference in the process in removing the adhesive after so long with direct Australian sun beaming down on it during those 2 years outside? Also, it has picked up grit and other contaminants during this time, any other process for that?
Totally enjoy watching your videos from Down Under.
Ozzy
Two other reasons many people de-badge = they don’t want people to see they bought the cheaper trim level or they want to throw on a Lexus badge on their Corollas. 😂
Blair Aquilia - Yep, but that doesn’t seem to stop posers from trying.
My '02's Acrua's RSX emblem fell off this week due to the rains, after 17 years, LoL. I'm deciding to remove all the emblems in the rear just to keep it clean.
I’m removing the Kia badges from my Stinger GT2 AWD and replacing them with the Korean badges; they just look nicer 🤷🏻♂️
Ear protection is essential when removing emblems.
Again Thank you so much for your explainatory and awesome videos - You are an inspiration
Thanks Jim
This worked a treat 👍🏼
I can never understand why Audi do a black edition car but cover the back of the car in chrome badges 🤦🏼♂️
Not 1 or 2 or 3 but 4 bloody badges plastered all over the boot 🤷🏼♂️
7 if you count them individually 😂😂
Thanks for the advice! What's your thoughts on doing a microfiber and pad cleaning how to?
Obsessively detailed as usual, Jim - in the best possible way. A true master class with all bases covered nicely. Let me know when you head out to Arizona - we'll go beat up on my Spyder and then you can help me with a quick one stage - deal?! 👍👊
Top video as always Jim
cheers but dont think i will risk a heat gun , virtually new car , the hardest part once overall glue removed is the multi applications to get the shadow lines removed completely off the surface . I dont possess any electric buffer or polishers .
I wouldn’t normally want badges removed from my Rangie but have to say it does look good debadged . Again great looking job done on the car Jim
Amazing work great to watch. Awesome
I never noticed that RR model has gills! More noticeable I guess when it's the color of a shark!
Amazing work! Very impressive!
*I love the sound quality of that bowers and wilkins, but the clamping power was too high, givig me headache, had to return it.*
Love the videos keep them coming! Cheers from Seattle !
Looking good Jim. If a customer wants new badges back, do they pay they new ones? Or is it your service?
Hi Jim just a question about Gtechniq when you put g1 on the winscreen how do you stop the wipers from juddering.
Either keep searching for something that works for you or stop using them lol. It's usually one or the other. A lot of people will just apply to side and back windows if at all for this reason. You can always just polish the windshield to fully remove if necessary. Make sure to clean the wiper blades.
Those cars must belong to the Royals. "Geeves, the Vogue is a wee bit dusty from our picnic on the moor. Take it to White. NOW, Geeves." - "Very good, sir."
You should do a compound to an old normal car (ex: 2008 Corolla). These vidos generally gets a lot of views and possibly make your chanel grow. Great video btw!
That would be very interesting but I'm pretty sure it won't happen any time soon. White details is a premium detailing company with premium prices. Judging by the videos, Jim's customers are mainly car guys who want only teh best for their vehicles or some wealthy people for who money isn't an issue.
People who own cars like 2008 Corolla probably don't care or know about cars or detailing and take their cars to those car wash companies for a detail. You know those companies that can do full 3-step paint restoration in 3 hours for £150 with a DeWalt rotary. Lmao.
I've yet to see someone de-badge the letters and rearrange them. Think of the possibilities with a Range Rover: Anger Over; Vegan Error; Rev Oranger; Rove Ranger!
Jim,
Not on any other social media....could you quote me a price for a white detail for a 2014 RS Q3 ? Cheeky to ask on here i know!
Please email jim@whitedetails.co.uk where I'll be happy to help! Thanks!
Thank you Jim for your top tips
Guessing this Range Rover owner also wants to hide the fact they only stumped up for a Vogue trim level (the model with the plastic dash topper and door rolls, not visible from the exterior)
ilard Base model would be 3.0TD6 territory. I didn’t think that the top of the dash was plastic only the bottom instead of leather.
WD40 cleans off the glue perfectly.
Nice video mate.
I will ask you an unsual question that maybe nobody asked you before...which boots are the ones you are wearing and where can I find them?
I will send you an email about another subject in a few minutes. Cheers
Excellent Video ....thank you
Qual o motivo de tirar o nome do veículo da tampa do porta-malas?
Just skip to 5:15
Just heat it up with hair dryer and clean the glue with a rag and varsol...
Good content, thanks Jim.
Great video. Thank you. New follower. 😎
Heating gun! guaranteed no scratches
Im going put Toyota sienna lettering on my Honda Odyssey.
I don't need hashtags for this.
Great to see a new video!! :-)
or you could just click the 'no badge' option when speccing the car if available.
Anyway, great video as usual Jim!
MrWhiteguy6 If you buy new that!is.
This vehicle is likely 2 or 3 years old.
Look at Mr moneybags over here able to buy cars that arent used.
The price of one of those range rover autobiographies the lettering should be gold plated...
Watching to remove the dealer badge ugh!
Had no idea Danny Ings had a youtube channel
Nice video again!! You do s great job!!!
Great video again 👌🏻👌🏻
Hi Jim hope everything is fine with you, haven't seen or heard anything from you recently . always enjoy Your VLOGs
Ever tried WD 40? Works a treat.
3:33 - 3:50 17 seconds of 15 minutes. Don't thank )))
I don’t understand why every Kia has to have some random old mans name on the back of the car
Video starts at 5:20.
Love it
Please come to America. Lol
I'm gong through withdraw without my normal white detailing videos.
It’s not a vogue, it’s a Range Rover. Vogue is just the spec. Calling it a vogue is the same as calling a BMW 320d “the M-Sport” - which wouldn’t happen.
After replacing the new RS4 sign i decided not to switch to pornhub
Can you sell these
Do you ever worry that the car's are in such mint condition that the owner's are scared to drive? The detail you put in I cringe when they are driven
Beaucoup de cinéma !
Il existe des gommes sur axe et perceuse qui font le travail impeccable marque 3 M !
i dont like badges i prefer simple plain clean look
Can you sell there
FFS , No wonder there was a revolution..
Get to the point!
Disgusting, someone had you remove the A5 badge only to have an RS4 badge put on? wowowoowowowoowow
This is all very information but I think the method on Howtobasic is a faster approach.
And the point is ? Really ? Im not bothered what others think about what I drive. I guess we live in a society where image is everything to a lot of people.
I did it with tinner now i got the logo 😂
Intro is WAY TOO LONG!
5:25, stop wasting people time mate, we dont wana hear you life story
👍👏👏
Dont upload these kind of videos already these emblems and logos are stolen. You people are giving ideas for that
Really? How old are you?
Why is there any age factor required to comment
Thank god for the British.
