As an Australian I’ve grown up hearing about Gallipoli on ANZAC Day every year. We celebrate ANZAC Day on the 25th of April because it is the day of the landing at Gallipoli which was the first major campaign that we were directly involved in. I have incredible respect for the Turks and Mustafa Kemal. The respect that they treated us with during and after the war is something I admire greatly.

    ÇANAKKALE GEÇİLMEZ
Halt, thee wanderer! This land where you step unknowingly
is a land where an era is sunk
Bend down and heed, this silent stack
    Is where homeland's heart beats

In the end of this stark and shadowless way
The pit that I've seen, in my Anatolia
For the sake of independence, for the sake of the honour,
Is the pit where my Mehmet rests

This pit, when the great earthquake occurs
While the last piece of homeland's land being annexed
This bulge is where the Mehmet chokes the enemy's throat
This bulge is where the Mehmet sheded his holy blood

Imagine, the pit which is made of
    Our blood, bones and flesh
Is a pit where the whole country tasted
    The pleasure of the independence
    Dur yolcu! Bilmeden gelip bastığın,
Bu toprak, bir devrin battığı yerdir.
Eğil de kulak ver, bu sessiz yığın,
    Bir vatan kalbinin attığı yerdir.

    Bu ıssız, gölgesiz yolun sonunda,
    Gördüğüm bu tümsek, Anadolu’nda,
    İstiklal uğrunda, namus yolunda,
    Can veren Mehmed’in yattığı yerdir.

    Bu tümsek, koparken büyük zelzele,
    Son vatan parçası geçerken ele,
    Mehmed’in düşmanı boğduğu sele,
    Mübarek kanını kattığı yerdir.

Düşün ki, hasrolan kan, kemik, etin
    Yaptığı bu tümsek, amansız, çetin,
    Bir harbin sonunda, bütün milletin,
    Hürriyet zevkini tattığı yerdir.

2 Fun facts. 1) The ANZACs were ordered not to load their rifles when they landed on the Beach and were told to Bayonet charge the Enimes. 2) Gallipoli campaign saw the ANZACs Fighting under our own flag for the first time in the Wars. As we always Faught under the British flag. That's why Gallipoli is Very near and dear to many Australians.

Heroes of both sides rest side by side and with the passage of time we look back and see nothing but what could have been for each of the Honored Dead. War is a madness that mankind has yet to outgrow, humanity is still young, I would like to see what humanity is like when it is mature. I hope that they remember those who defended the nations that will give rise to them and their society.

2:00 Maybe it's just perspective issues, but that machine gunner has the barrel pointed in a direction which would result in the bullets being fired into the dirt.

176 cannons of all calibres on the shores of the Strait.
The Allies' naval force bombardment had only destroyed 8.

@Yorgunbei because they target to shot great calibres cannons which were actual ship hunters
Ottomans tried to cheat them with stove pipe fake cannons. And it seems, that worked very well

Gallipoli was so sad. Truly unnecessary killing bc of poor planning. God rest the souls of these valiant men, on both sides.
