Perhaps some very important destinations in the Canakkale region are not even shown in this video. The islands of Gokceada and Bozcaada, the Kazdaglari National Park with its incredible nature, the town of Geyikli, the ancient port and city of Assos, the town of Ezine, famous for its cheese, and many other places we should have seen in this video. I hope to show these places in another video on this channel. Greetings from the Netherlands
I feel sorry for the Anzac soldiers. For the British, for the wars they fought with the Turks, whom they were not enemies of in these lands. Thousands of Australians, New Zealanders and even Indians died in this land they did not recognize. Turks have never lost in defense of their homeland, so they should be respected. Even the founding leader Atatürk said to the families of the martyred Anzac soldiers whose graves are in Çanakkale, "Don't worry, they are our children now." he said
There hasn't been any incident at the war memorials, either. ''There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side here in this country of ours. - M.K. Ataturk''
Letter from Atatürk to Anzacs: “Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives …You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side in this country of ours. You, the mothers, who sent their sons from far away countries, wipe away your tears. Your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well.” A response by an Anzac’s mother to Atatürk’s words: “The warmth of your words eased our sorrow for our sons who vanished in Gallipoli, and our tears ended. Your words are a consolation to me as a mother. Now we are sure that our sons rest in peace in their eternal rest. If your Excellency accepts, we would like to call you ‘Ata’, too. Because what you have said at the graves of our sons could only be said by their own fathers. In the name of all mothers, our respects to the Great Ata who embraced our children with the love of a father.” Source : Turkish canberra embassy
The real meaning of the text is as follows; You got excited about the First World War and joined the war from miles away. However, it was a war that was none of your business. If you thought that you would destroy yourself by seeing yourself as a hero and despising us and thinking of a WAR that would be guaranteed to be won, I hope that you will not make such a mistake again and that you will not bear the curse of all people by participating in wars that do not concern you. Don't let distances make you and your country think safe, maybe we will meet one day. Have a nice day! This is a letter about the memory of Turkish history.

@@karalmilani2122 You Greeks have always been hostile towards us, but the Ottoman Empire gave you the opportunity to live your religion and culture freely. What is the meaning of this constant hostility? I think that the Turks, who have been in Anatolian lands for 1000 years, have enough say. Also, if the land is so valuable to you, why did you sell your country's greatest resources (such as railways) to the big countries of Europe, especially the Germans?

Mustafa Kemal Pasha was just a colonel commanding 19th infantry reserve division during Gallipoli campaign. Because his division was reserve he couldn't even engage unless there was an order from his commanders. After entente landings began he waited 6 hours for an order but it never came, Ottoman high command was in chaos. Nobody expected entente forces to land at such rough terrain against steep hills at all sides so they were thinking those landings could be decoys. But soon Kemal Pasha learned ANZAC vanguard reached Chunuk bair which is one of highest hills in Gallipoli and overlooking entire region, it would be very costly or even impossible to capture it back if Anzacs could fortify it. So he illegally ordered his 19th division to climb Chunuk bair from eastern side and repel Anzacs back into lower ground, he also illegally took control units from other divisions in the area giving them charge orders as well. It was 19th division's 57th infantry regiment which reached Chunuk bair first, simultaneously with three ANZAC regiments. Kemal Pasha knowing the severity of situation gave his famous die order to 57th infantry regiment: ''I'm not ordering you to attack, I'm ordering you to die! In the time which passes until we die, other troops and commanders can take our place” 57th infantry regiment followed the order and engaged in a bloody hand to hand combat for control of the hill. They managed to repel Anzacs back into lower ground but it was extremely costly, within only 2 hours 80% of the regiment were dead or wounded. The regiment could be reinforced and continued fighting both in Gallipoli and other fronts. After several hours more units reached Chunuk bair including 19th division's 72th and 77th infantry regiments and began fortifying the hill against further ANZAC attacks. During 8 months long campaign Anzacs could never reach those hills again and got stuck in lower ground surrounded by steep hills at all sides, in fact ANZAC commander requested their evacuation at the end of first day after they were repelled back. However British high command refused it, claiming if Turks could see a single healthy soldier leaving they would charge and slaughter them all. It is true such large scale evacuations were always quite risky but after 8 months of hopeless fighting Anzacs were finally evacuated while Turks didn't charge and kill them.. Because Kemal Pasha and his 19th reserve division saved those very important hills, Ottoman high command had to ignore his illegal actions and instead promote him, giving him command of entire Anzac front. On entente perspective Gallipoli campaign was indeed for nothing but at least it made Ataturk a national hero and perhaps opened the way for establishment of Turkey so it wasn't for nothing entirely.
Wow, that’s very detailed history you should write a book, when I said it didn’t achieve anything, I suppose I was meaning the British, although it was a terrible loss of life from both sides
@@mickandtrudie Thank you uncle Mick! I agree it was a terrible loss of life which can't be justified but at least it wasn't for nothing which is a little comforting i think.

Stumbled onto your channel this morning. I had the pleasure of being in Turkiye last year and made it to ANZAC Cove. I was the first of my family to visit the grave of my great grandfather Eugene Herbert Tuite (enlisted as Edward James Hanlon 11th Battalion) located in Shell Green Cemetery. A truly moving experience. Interestingly, he is listed as Tuite at the Hall of Remembrance at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra, but is listed as Hanlon at the Kings Park Memorial in Perth Australia where the 11th Battalion was raised, and listed as Hanlon on his grave at Gallipoli. The words of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk never cease to amaze me. Extremely gracious to those who came and attacked their land, their home, their country. So, by adoption I am a great grandson of Turkiye. Turkiye, God willing, we have our tickets booked and will be back next year.

Absolutely fascinating. My great grandfather was sent out there with the Royal Marines Light Infantry. He had two pieces of good luck. Firstly, he survived Gallipoli from beginning to end in the trenches and was evacuated to Mudros then onto the UK on HMT Olympic. Secondly, rather than being sent to the Western Front with the rest of his battalion, who nearly all perished, he was trained in naval gunnery and was eventually put on a newly built gun ship HMS Resolution... which the admiralty were too frightened to dent! His luck run out during WW2, he be became diabetic , his family couldn't afford food and insulin (no nhs) and he went into a coma and died in 1944. Thanks for posting.
No, he died when my grandfather was 17 and had been sent to work in Westbury. We knew he was in the First World War but didn't know what or where. We found out when we got his records from the Fleet Air Arm museum who hold Marine's records from this period. According to my grandfather's sister, he was a very "difficult" chap and very religious, she said she couldn't wait to move out. @@mickandtrudie

Wow, what a story and the sad ending, at least he got to pass on his stories to you all. 🤠
Sevgili Dünya Dostları ; çanakkale bu milletin kahramanlık zirvesidir ,güzel video için elinize emeğinize sağlık sağ olun
Gentelmen's War..
As a Turk, I have great respect for you, guys. Unfortunately, history has written that the lives of innocents have always been in the hands of politicians and high-ranking officials. I offer my greetings from Aydın/Turkey. Anzac/Turk Brothers!
Thanks for another great video. Your video is the 1st time I've ever seen anything about the Turkish war memorials. It was very moving to hear you recite the words on the ANZAC memorial. We love your views of Turkey and we're using them to plan our Motorhome trip there next year.
Do you have a Superchat or buymeakofi?
Welcome Skippies😂
Another one of your exquisite documentarial videos may be one of the best about Çanakkale and surroundings.
It's been a joyful experience to follow your videos. Thank you...
That was really interesting. There's so much to see in every corner of this country. I've never been to Canakkale before. Two other places I'd recommend you guys go to is Yalova and Uludag.
I am someone who has been living in Çanakkale for 20 years. I live near the stadium. I was interested in watching the city I live in every day through the observations of a visitor. Bon appetit, we wait for you again.
❤❤❤❤👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾❤❤❤❤
I spent just over a week in the area touring in my motorhome. Great people so welcoming especially at the Boomerang Bar who allowed me to park on their land overlooking the sea.
Thank you again Mick and Trudie for this lovely insight into Canakkale and Gallipoli - hopefully I will be there next year 🤞❤✔🇦🇺
Please share the link with your friends 🤠
On this occasion, I say to the Anzac soldiers who fought for no reason, I will spare their mothers. 🇹🇷
Purely out of curiosity, I ask because you come here every year, is this your only war in history? If this is your only war, it's really funny that you come here every year, I'm telling you from a country with a history.
Such a beautiful place and such a horrible battle where thousands young men lost their lives .

I have been using your videos in my English classes. They are not only great sources for teaching but also attractive. Thanks Mick and Trudie.
God bless you two! Enjoyed as always! Thanks for sharing your adventures with us! 💜
Thank you so much for the nice video. You respect and love turkey and Turkish people also love and respect you two. I think everyone should fallow this role, wherever we go we should respect the local laws and traditions
You narrate the documentary professionally. I watch and enjoy
Your videos are entertaining and very professionally made
I'm impressed 👍
Thank you so much for nice video. A respectful couples.
This is definetely Netflix deserving video, 👍👍👍👍👍
Your accent very nice I do not know how many years lived in Turkey but you are excellent speaking turkish.
Thank you for this. We are going to Istanbul next year for the second time and this time Çanakkale was on the list. Always wanted to see the memorials and also wondered about Troy but think we will leave that one. Did not look very impressive. We always like to do the travel planning ourselves rather than an organised tour but think that will be the better option this time. Your video is as always so informative and providing so much food for thought for our future trips. Take care.
Thanks for this lovely video. I thoroughly enjoyed watching your video about beautiful Çanakkale on a fine Friday evening. ❤

Your videos are all nice and informative. Thanks. As a native Turkish speaker though, I couldn't help but notice how comfortably you speak Turkish. My congratulations. Turkey is both difficult and fun. Glad that you're having a good time. All the best.

My aunt is living in Gelibolu since I was born, so I know that place very well. We visited the Atatürk house and the martyrs' memorial, too. But, I don't know why, we had never been to Canakkale itself. So a couple years ago my mother and I decided to go there by bus.
It is the cleanest turkish city I have ever seen in my life. It's charming and beautiful. There are many places I would like to visit like Bozcaada and Gökceada and Troj and Assos. Now I am married and my husband is not as interested as I am so maybe I'll have to let him watch this video😂
Atatürk was a great and wise leader with good soul and intellegence rarely seen.
Siz iki genç aşık çift... Harika insanlarsınız. Size ve ekibinize saygılarımı sunuyorum. Emeğinize sağlık. Kesinlikle beğenileri hak ediyorsunuz.
3:31 the way you speak Turkish is amazing 😂😂😂you made my day
A really interesting and informative video, Canakkale is not an area we have visited. It's definitely somewhere we will consider in future

Thank you for this great wonderfull Video.Greatings for Germany.😊

What a fantastic video you two! I think it's one of your best ever!!! It took me back to my all too brief visit to Gallipoli a few years ago on, of all days, Anzac Day (purely coincidental). I so want to come back and explore more. And thanks Mick, I found out I've been mispronouncing the town's name for the past 20 years🤦♂
Which one were you mispronouncing? Gelibolu
Oh that was great ! so many things i recognised from my visit in Aug which was soooo hot but i had no choice lol ! i will go back but not in Aug. the Troy museum was so good.
Thank you mick amca and trudie teyze
Perfect video , best with all aspects of çanakkale I have ever seen.
Çanakkale'yi çok severim. Epeydir gitmemiştim. Çok gelişmiş ve değişmiş. Çok güzel bir video olmuş elinize sağlık
Yet another amazing video! You two are producing videos that are way more interesting than anything produced by the blinkin BBC!! Please keep doing what you’re doing, love it!
