It irks me to hear Matt talk about excess while he drives a FUCKING COUNTACH. No wonder the dude has anxiety and depression, he’s a hypocrite and he’s trying to be a woke liberal while he’s a rich guy with a Countach and a huge freaking house while he’s simultaneously bitching about human excess. That’s enough to make anyone anxious. Complaining about excess while trying to open a second multi-million dollar car storage place that caters to other rich folks 😂 Not intended to bash Matt, as I like the guy I think he’s insightful and generally well spoken, and I love cars, and I love his take on them. But man, to hear a countach owner complain about human excess just gives me a headache. If excess bothers you and you want to be a woke liberal- give away all your excessive possessions. I’ll take the countach lol
Classic american liberal elite mentality. Drive gigantic SUVs, own a house that uses a ton of resources, then consume even more stuff that is marketed as eco to make themselves feel good and embrace woke culture to pretend they're good people.
I couldn’t agree more. I would say that a good amount of people who have a truck will use it until it dies and it will be their only car. Matt owns a lot of cars and buys new cars which is bad for the environment. It seems like he is talking down from his throne when he goes on these talks about excess and it makes me not want to listen to him anymore because why does that matter to how the vehicle performs. If Matt really have a shit about the environment he wouldn’t be going out on that boat he has, he wouldn’t own a bunch of cars, and he sure as hell wouldn’t own a business which enables and encourages people to buy more cars. Needless to say I miss the old Matt that was true to himself.
Same. I've listened to TST forever, and will continue to. Matt is GREAT. But going so overboard on the TRX for being useless and excessive, while simultaneously taking a AMG GT Black Series on a rally and praising it...when it's literally good for almost nothing except on a race track is wild to me. A TRX can at least be an "only car" for an enthusiast. It can do anything except get good gas mileage. Fast. Off road. Tow. It's got a huge cab. Tailgate. Looks cool. Sounds great. I'm waiting on some link to vaccination status at this point.

Really enjoy these pods with Jason, always a great time. I will say that I have never thought that you guys were out of touch with regular people more than I have while watching this. Where I'm from everyone and their brother has at least a full size truck, and they do indeed use them weekly in ways that other vehicles could not be substituted. To say that people don't need trucks and it's gluttonous may be true in SoCal, but is categorically false for large swaths of the country. SoCal could be believed to be a different planet when compared to the rest of the US, something that many people who live there tend to forget. For what it's worth I daily an ND Miata RF and never plan to own a truck so I'm not sticking up for myself lol
that's why these upcoming EV trucks will be great, indeed many people do need trucks and don't drive anywhere near 300-400 miles per day. these can be replaced with EVs and we get the best of both worlds
Yes, but their point was you guys could have done those tasks in medium sized trucks, and the new ones are WAY bigger than they need to be. If Vice Grip Garage can revive a dead ‘75 Blazer and immediately drag around half buried cars with seized brakes, then you don’t need a 3 ton Cummins or dually in your life.
But the people they're talking about are the people who buy big capable trucks and never use them in that manner. They're not talking about people who actually need them. There's no actual thing to be arguing here.
@@kevinandrew_ yeah. but one of the people talking about those people is the guy operating a friggin parking garage for toy cars which are never used as intended in a city with a housing crisis. so, pot, kettle and the whole thing.

I think he was speaking more to the fact that the big truck has to be equipped like an s class, and thats why he gave the raptor praise because if the thing is as well equipped as Mercedes, having side by side shocks and being able to drive in the most fucked conditions is a luxury, its the fact that the grandpa truck is a dying breed to me is the problem
In response to the NSX engineer, while I can’t speak for churches in Ohio, down here in the Atlanta area, we have pastors who pull up on Harleys and church members who drive TRXs, GT350s, Ferraris, F-Type R, etc, so it’s a glorious symphony of exhaust sounds leaving the parking lot on Sunday mornings.
LMAOI - Matt Farah, a man that doesnt like excess, also Matt Farah - owns a Countach, literally the embodiment of excess. 24:37 - also has no problem profiting off excess (owns a garage for rich people with so many cars they dont have room for them at home) - I dont have a problem with people spending their earned money as they please, but then again, I'm no hypocrite.
Getting caught up on these after an extremely busy month for me, and now I’m here tearing up listening to you talk about the old cats passing away. I don’t even have cats or like them, but your empathy to the animals is very touching. You’re a good soul, Matt. Also, Clint Eastwood is a piece of shit.
Totally respect privacy concerns - but there are much easier ways to figure out where someone lives than doing some fancy OSINT google map cross-referencing with the background of his house. Not to mention the Streisand effect of explicitly stating why you washed it out in the next episode.
@@TheSmokingTire in his apology Matt missed the whole point of the movie, while the character played by Clint was a shitbag racist who redeemed himself by giving his life for the young man to have a better opportunity, Clint Eastwood IRL is not a shitbag racist, check yourself…
I’ve listened to this show since the beginning like 10 years ago. I respect Matt’s opinion on vehicle dynamics and engagement. I appreciate the many hours of quality him and Zack put out. All that being said, the American Excess discussion could not be more hypocritical. Let’s look at some facts. This entire argument boils down to “impacting others on the road” because if you park next to someone else in a TRX they can’t open their door. Inconveniencing others on the road you say? How about the countless times Matt basically boasted on the show about shutting down the street with like 150 concrete trucks to pour the foundation for WCCS? Did that inconvenience anyone? Not to mention that concrete production is one of the most intense carbon emitting sources on the scale. Wanna talk about excess? Tell me again how owning a Lamborghini, Ferrari, Aston Martin, and several other cars is reasonable, but a guy from the Midwest shouldn’t own a 1500 pickup if he wants to? My man literally built this building for the sole purpose of enabling other wealthy people to own more and more cars. Oh and he is expanding to another building to do the same for more people? Matt I don’t blame you for being out of touch with most of the country because of where you live, but don’t pretend like your choice of excess makes you a morally better person. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
Thanks for saving me the time. Daily a Focus, own a BBC guzzler. Those additional autos use multiple petroleum products, water, etc. I enjoy the podcast but geez a very Hippocratic stance.
About the E30 M3.. you just need the perfect recipe to have the perfect M3 without spending to much money... 1st: Have the Euro model variant with no cat & different intake admisión, very important and noticible 2nd: Go for Alpha N Carbon Inbox and Ecu Remap and you will forget about the 325i sound (also increase of hp) 3rd: Because is a racing homologate go for the Intrax Coilovers + Z3 Quickshift stearing rack (2.7 lock2lock) and also Z3 shortshift gearbox linkeage + the SportEvo 16" with a good set of tires (Neovas) Thats about it! Those mods will change the car and will keep its value while having the looks that (sorry) the 325 will never have..
Personally would rather have a euro look e21 with the s14 heads and all the suspension but keep it live axle in the back so it slides with the greatest of ease, I've always adored the earlier more Bauhaus styling of the Alpina type stuff,
I agree with Jason about the BRZ/86. If it had a usable hatchback I'd buy one tomorrow. Seems like both Subaru and Toyota don't need to supply the same car..one of them should switch to a hatchback version. Think Z3 coupe.
Good choice on that A2, that thing was so ahead of its time that neither Audi nor the public actually realised what it was capable of. To this day, that is one of the most efficient vehicles on the planet as far as MPG is concerned. Crazy amount of engineering behind it too, even though people have no idea....
I'm not sure I agree with the premise of excess. I think most people would agree that excess is just "more than you need". But what do you need? How do you define that?
Talks about cars being excess yet owns a lambo, and a Ferrari, and a bunch of other shit. That’s my problem with the whole whole idea. No matter how much you preach you always have blood on your hands. Personally, I don’t think that it’s the car manufacturers responsible to see if their cars are socially acceptable or not. That is something that the free market can decide. EV’s are going on the same path as gasoline powered cars. Right know they just go fast in a straight like and that’s it. I think of it as the 60’s American cars.
These guys own old classic Ferraris and Lambos. There's something about classic cars that makes them seen in a different light, gives them allowances in how they're judged. I think one of the things that makes a car obnoxious is it being appealing to douchebags who want excessive things for their excessiveness. Countach has been a douchemobile in its day; however, in the present, the majority of douchebags would get an Aventador over a Countach. This means Countach is no longer a douchemobile, it's no longer an excessive car in a way that excessive enough for today's douchebags.
I tend to lean in favor of Farrah’s views, except on this. Owning more than one car can be seen as excessive. One’s flavor of excessive can be seen differently. If I owned 1 TRX ( I don’t btw) how is 1 vehicle more excessive than owning 6? What’s the basis we are grading this on. Because of parking or driving lanes? What about having to build or retro fit buildings to store something that was designed to be used and then recycled when done. If I own 3 TRX’s from here on out. It’s still less excess than owning 6 cars including an old Ferrari. I’m sorry I just down see how one can judge based on such different principles.
Self-driving car giving time back? It's not like you can do anything you like with that time -- you're still stuck in that container for a duration of time. You'll end up just wasting that time on the internet waiting for your commute to end. Let's be honest here: most people won't be making business calls or working on their business; most people will just be killing time on their self-driving commute. So TIME is not an argument for the majority of people. That'll just mean a win for the internet companies because they'll get even more of your attention (and data). I'd say driving a car may even be HEALTHIER than staring at a screen watching youtube or scrolling through your so-called "social" media "feed" for that amount of time: 1) your eyes are not staring at a screen from a short distance (bad for eyes) 2) your brain is focused and you're constantly making mental calculations (rather than being brain-dead watching youtube) 3) your neck is in a better position because most people tilt their head down when using a "laptop" or phone. Sure, self-driving stuff may save lives, but I'm just saying you'd be sacrificing yourself for the "greater good" thinking that you're the winner here.
Jason at 1:15:09 is spot on, I too would leap at the option to have a wagon/hatch version of the GR86 if it had a useable backseat and some cargo area. That would be an absolute dream.
@@GTIModBlog Sadly the GR Yaris is not sold in North America and it's missing 2 doors as well. Yes, the GR Corolla may be coming but it too is a bit too compact. Ideally, a modernised version of Jason's E30 wagon would be great.
@@GTIModBlog Yaris GR even if it was sold in the States no one will pay 50K for it heck it’ll likely even push 60-70K including markup for a Yaris GR, Toyota saw what happen to the Focus RS. With that said in mind a hatch version/4 door of the GR86 will do wonders

They're truly impressive vehicles.
@@aaronbehindbars sure. I just am fundamentally opposed to new trucks. They just don't do anything for me. That's just me, the 24 year old with an opinion on something I haven't even sat in 😅😆
as I progressed through ownership of newer cars over the years I started taking more liking to Jason and Matt's way of seeing the automobiles of yester-year so much so that I got rid of everything new and now own '95 F355 rosso barch manual coupe, '92 500E, '86 Buick GN, '07 997 manual turbo, '95 1A1 MKIV supra... what happened to me? lol
Complaining about excess while trying to open a second multi-million dollar car storage place that caters to other rich folks 😂
Not intended to bash Matt, as I like the guy I think he’s insightful and generally well spoken, and I love cars, and I love his take on them.

Matt and Jason reinforcing my desire to get a mint 1990-1993 Cavalier Z24

Cammisa pods are always a must-listen. This one is no exception!
Don't worry Matt, I thought the EV Jeep vid was fantastic.
I'll make fun of you guys...You don't like excess but have 8 cars. Some people chose a big Truck instead of 8 little ones. Same shit different delivery hole. Thanks for the entertainment. The ICON Blackwing was legendary,. Almost made me cancel my C8 order.
Listening to them talk about governments/cities not letting you drive your petrol cars was depressing AF. If that happens we are fucked. 😭
In italy is the norm for years. You cant drive old cars in cityes. Sucks.
Have to say that through these podcasts I have rediscovered Cammisa. Thank you 👍 Brilliant man. You are not to bad either 😛
Oh fucking please. Spare me.
Thanks for letting us all hang out with you two. :-)

Getting caught up on these after an extremely busy month for me, and now I’m here tearing up listening to you talk about the old cats passing away. Totally respect privacy concerns - but there are much easier ways to figure out where someone lives than doing some fancy OSINT google map cross-referencing with the background of his house. Not to mention the Streisand effect of explicitly stating why you washed it out in the next episode.
I"ll freely admit, I do download this to listen to during my courier daily drive. Great stuff fellas, keep up the great content.

It’s so dumb to be so afraid of being considered a racist just for making a joke that was clearly meant as nothing more than that.
It is very important to consider the humanity of your audience. Very important.
His take in cars is why I watch, his politics are delusional and moronic.

how much exposure on your camera do you want?
Matt: Yes
they speak on owning a truck as gluttony and excess, and yet both of them owning multiple cars and a Ferrari isnt?
About the E30 M3.. you just need the perfect recipe to have the perfect M3 without spending to much money... 1st: Have the Euro model variant with no cat & different intake admisión, very important and noticible
2nd: Go for Alpha N Carbon Inbox and Ecu Remap and you will forget about the 325i sound (also increase of hp)
3rd: Because is a racing homologate go for the Intrax Coilovers + Z3 Quickshift stearing rack (2.7 lock2lock) and also Z3 shortshift gearbox linkeage + the SportEvo 16" with a good set of tires (Neovas)
Thats about it!

I am both an admirer of efficiency and excess. In my garage I have a Cayenne turbo 957 and a quite rare Audi A2 TDI. Love them both for what they do.
Good choice on that A2, that thing was so ahead of its time that neither Audi nor the public actually realised what it was capable of. To this day, that is one of the most efficient vehicles on the planet as far as MPG is concerned. Crazy amount of engineering behind it too, even though people have no idea....
i dont think a cayenne turbo is an example of the type of excess they are talking about

Jason is my favorite. Feed me.
Virtue signalling to the masses, while doing the opposite in private. Nothing new.

I'd say driving a car may even be HEALTHIER than staring at a screen watching youtube or scrolling through your so-called "social" media "feed" for that amount of time:
1) your eyes are not staring at a screen from a short distance (bad for eyes)
2) your brain is focused and you're constantly making mental calculations (rather than being brain-dead watching youtube)
3) your neck is in a better position because most people tilt their head down when using a "laptop" or phone.
Sure, self-driving stuff may save lives, but I'm just saying you'd be sacrificing yourself for the "greater good" thinking that you're the winner here.
Actually Jason was one of the reasons I bought a mk7

@@markthibault8579 you’re totally right on practicality, but I would point out it sounds like Toyota is gonna drop the GR in America (it is already in Mexico I know that, not sure about Canada)
@@GTIModBlog Indeed, the GR Corolla is coming. The problem is that it's a bit too tight in the back seat relative to other 4dr hatchbacks like the Civic HB, GTI, etc. Further, it's AWD will only serve to drive the price up to WRX-level pricing.
