Correct, I was taught (at school) to hand tighten until the rubber seal contacts, and then turn 1/4 turn more. This makes it much easier to remove. Also be sure to lube the rubber seal as shown in the video.
Hi, excellent video as I just bought my son 2018 Mazda 3 and it is about time to change the oil for first time. Do you need to jack the car up to gain access to replace the old oil filter and remove the drain plug? thanks
Hi, Where did you get the screenshot for the oil capacity figure? I looked at the owner manuals for all of the 3rd gen Mazda 3, it only states the capacity with or without the oil filter replacement, but your figure has the capacity for the dry engine as well. Thanks!
When is the wrench indicator flashes - when you change the oil or the oil filter, because i had my mazda 3 oil changed but the indicator in maitenance wasn't reset.
You can't. They are no longer made for new cars. You can find service manuals online that cover every single piece of the car. They are extremely huge (10,000+ pages)
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. It helps immensely .
Looks like you were tightening the filter when you were trying to remove it. Nice video.
Yeah, he should've admitted it that his first 2 attempts of loosening the oil filter was going the wrong way... lefty loosely or counter clockwise.
And I can't stand K&N filters ... do not find the stamped steel nut any help at all. I prefer Bosch or Wix for these applications.
@@ricebike nope, he was using the front camera of his phone, shows opposites...hes not stupid.
No need to tighten the oil filter with any tools, just hand tight Is fine
thanks for the info
I was wondering the same..
Thanks for the info

Great video. Even included torque specs.
I couldn’t unscrew the oil drain plug with an 8 mm socket what did you use?
I have a 2017 Mazda 3 as well

Hi I have 2016 Mazda Demio XD Diesel. Is this vid on the Diesel? Kind Regards
Do you have any link to buy oil drain washer? I have mazda 3 2017 touring
Drain plug 23-30 ft lb
Filter 107-141 in lb
I purchased a regular oil plug screw to replace the ridiculous Mazda design oil drain plug.
Some requires a 17mm wrench for the plug.

The wrench indicator just means that a certain amount of time has passed since they last reset it. Its more of a timer.
The maintenance reset is in the user interface of the mazda 3 software. It can be turned off, reset, or the interval edited.
hello where can i find mazda 3 oil change manual ?

@@MyKonaRC cus dealerships they wanna monopolize the service as well

nice vid, helps alot
03:50 wrong direction
Nice thanks
Horrible hex bit drain plug. 30k miles on this one and it feels too sloppy for this guy
I just use a screwdriver and a hammer to take off the oil filter.
@Bob Smithereens i dont agree with doing maintenance in an abnormal manner either but you seriously don't need to be so negative about it. :/
That works but that should be a last resort when oil filter is super tight
righty tighty lefty loosie
Where do you jack the car up from?
