Pro tip. I wear disposable gloves on right hand when removing the oil filter. Once I've removed filter I remove glove. Save me washing my hand and I hate the feeling of cleaning my hands a few times and can still feel the oil on my hand. I love that you mention tighten oil filter by hand, I've done this for over 15 years and never hand any issues. It also makes it much easier to remove filter

With that kind of filter position. I'd pour a little of new oil into the new filter reduce a little engine wear.

Just bought a used 2016 sedan, and thinking of learning to maintain it on my own. Thanks a lot for the video! Doesn't look hard, but gotta go get the tools first. Should I am thinking of putting in penzoil ultra premium in it, at least for the first time since it has more "cleaners" as per some reviews. Thoughts?

    - Warm up engine for 3 min @idle (don't do it hot)
    - Jack up driver's side and use a secondary mechanism to support the jack (for your sake)
    - Loosen oil cap, remove drain plug and let drain
    - Remove filter and wipe off all surrounding area
    - Fill NEW filter with oil and install (to mitigate that first "dry" pump)
    - Replace drain plug (maybe 9Nm or 4lb ft - just snug not rompin' tight)
    - Check your work
    - Lower vehicle
    - Pour NEW Oil in at the specifications
    - Replace oil cap
    - Check Work
    - Start Car for 30 seconds
    - Reset your Oil Minder
    - Check Oil Level on Dipstick and ensure you are not overfilled

Great video. Maybe use new oil on the filter gasket and fill it up before installing. I'm also hoping that you chocked the rear wheels. 👍

I know we always change oil in our vehicles. Just a tip: I always put carton under the vehicle like those from Costco fillers from bathroom tissue, then when I remove the oil filter I used two pcs of paper towel to unscrew the oil filter so when drip comes I’m safe, then I’ll just drop the paper towel in the container as well the oil filter and deal with it later, also I always use ramps to be in the safe side. I also fill the oil filter with oil inside the hole and lubricate the rubber seal around it. Thanks for uploading the video👍🙂

so when you put the new oil in you have to make sure on the dip stick it’s to the second circle or bubble or where should it reach till on the dip stick , also do you remember exactly how much oil you put, how many quarts total ?

what is the height of the oil filter?

  • @xxxpensive1415
    @xxxpensive1415 2 года назад +1

What I noticed that was strange your fuel tank range is displaying 704 miles , which is very high but then again the 2.0 from 2014 to 2016 are much more efficient than the 2018 model they twaeked the way the car revs also I like the more raw feeling of the 2016 model seems a little more louder and sporty.

on the pinch welds there is a small area to indicate where to jack it up from according to mazda, is it safe for the car to put the floor jack to the side more so that the jack stands can occupy that spot with the notches? i cant find any information to answer this question

I would cut a small wooden block and make a groove wide and deep enough to fit over ridge, then position it on trolly jack plate when jacking up car and you wont damage and bend ridge, also make same block for stands

You tighten it too much by hand. You won't be able to use your hand next time to remove it!
You probably squeezed the gasket too much?
Otherwise...ok but you should use new oil on your new gasket( o - ring ) not used oil( cross contamination).

Is it liquimoly ?? 5w40 should be fine. For example, the Volkswagen GTI calls for 5W-30 on the cab yet most local shop so put in 5W 40 liquiMolly.

It has a crush washer yes’
      While u don’t “have to”
They cost $3 for a new plug and crush washer at dealer just do it!
Why change your old crush washer all jacked up do it right the first time’
But there’s always those ppl “who know best” 🤣

Yes the older 14-16 mazda 3 had a shit Allen key bolt that would strip out easily’
Mazda finally wised up and updated part to an actual bolt’
For bolt and crush washer it was $3 and change at my dealer’
100% recommend buying the new plug on next change’
That old Allen key one is trash’

    • @joelhernandez393
      @joelhernandez393 2 года назад

@@joshymcdaniel9233 I do not understand why manufacturers use a allen key bolt for any normal bolt application. Like you said they do strip out many times. I had to extract a stripped hex stripped bolt on my supercharger on my miata.

rust was a big problem in the early 2000s. my parents had a 2002 mpv with 400,000km, but rust a quarter way up the doors. my 2014 mazda 3 has no such issues though. and i live in salt central. but i also fluid film the eff out of it every summer.
