Here's Roland Dyens live at GSI playing Fernando Sor's Le Calme on a very important guitar - a 1947 Robert Bouchet that was the 2nd guitar Bouchet ever built and the first he ever sold (he had made the first for himself and kept it). Recorded live at the Guitar Salon International showroom in Santa Monica, CA.
Huge thanks to the folks at AEA (RibbonMics.com) for the use of their N8 and N22 ribbon active microphones in these recordings.

I found out briefly after I woke up this morning. It breaks my heart that he is no more with us. What was the cause of death?

Yes, he died silently and discreetly from a cancer.
Au revoir, Maitre, l'histoire de la guitare restera marquée au fer rouge de votre talent.

I've read that Dyens played a very wide range of guitar music, but always included Sor in his concerts. This piece makes it clear why he did. Lilting charm balances perfectly with sadness and a touch of anger.

As with all great performers, music (rather than personality) always comes first. I loved it.

Great session and the history of the guitar added context which enriched the appreciation of the performance!

Mr, Dyens, always so courteous and lively, so charismatic as if he was still here :(
I am just very upset with these re.... seller whose main purpose is to sell a great treasure like this. Was shocked on his attitude and how he gave the guitar to the great maestro while saying "Hold this" ??? I mean Roland was the only guy in the curtain, and you dont have to be well educated to know some basic manner. What a SHAME; though the performance was fabulous, as always from the maestro. Such a shame!

thanks for the recording, the sound quality is great, and Dyens a great musician. But it would help if you only used one camera, the front or main camera. The side one is out of "tune", has different colours and simply distracts from the music. Why not give us the same feeling the audience enjoys, with one simple and plain view from the front? Or give the filming job to a real pro? thanks!

Somehow Roland thought this guitar was built in 1955, (the year he was born....)
