- Guitar: 1947 Robert Bouchet (tinyurl.com/jbm...)
We are all deeply saddened by the untimely death of Maestro Roland Dyens.
Here he is playing the piece he liked to close his concerts with - his arrangement of Baden Powell's Berimbau. This seems a fitting tribute to the man who did so very much for the classical guitar as composer, arranger and guitarist. He will be missed.
For this piece Dyens plays a 1947 Robert Bouchet that was the 2nd guitar Bouchet ever built and the first he ever sold (he had made the first for himself and kept it). Recorded live at the Guitar Salon International showroom in Santa Monica, CA.
Huge thanks to the folks at AEA (RibbonMics.com) for the use of their N8 and N22 ribbon active microphones in these recordings.

This man put in a lot of time into his instrument,,,only a man who heard the berimbau up close and personal could have built this arrangement,,,,This man has been to the street of Bahia and back,,,,Obrigado Mestre Roland
He will be sorely missed. His kind, artistic spirit and excellence were so unique.
I'm so glad I was present at this performance last year at GSI. Roland was a guitar giant and his arrangements and compositions will live on.
Que honra!!
Wow, that is the most impressive thing I've ever heard. Thank the Lord we have recordings like this.
This news is so upsetting. Maestro Roland Dyens was a guitarist and musician that I loved and admired. I met him in Israel. He was a great man.

WOT!!!!
As close to a berimbau as a guitar can sound. In fact its indistinguishable.
1:45 the play
What is the french song he said? Bidovine?
"Bidonville" (= slum, shanty town) is a french adaptation of "Berimbau" : more exactly, Claude Nougaro, a famous french songwriter, put words on what (I think) was only an instrumental piece by Baden-Powell...

Not weird for us fingerstyle guitarists.
This piece sounds like someone trying too hard to be technical. No disrespect to Roland.
