In 2001, I studied with Maestro Dyens at his master class in Burgundy France. That was my brag. He arranged the magic flute for 21 guitars, and we all got to perform a piece individually.
    He was absolutely magical.
It makes me so happy that you are now introducing a true embodiment of a playing player. As in, his arrangements are fun and unique.
I will never forget he emphasized having fun and being free.
He would of loved your work. I know this because when you play with love, you celebrate existence at its core. You're wonderful and the rest of us who also play are wonderful. We are most fortunate to share this experience at any capacity. Much love good sir.

    Fuckin finally
I saw him once live. And my life waa never the same. From full fledged metalhead that played almost exclusively metallica riffs, to classical guitarist in the space of an hour. Mr Dyens opened my ears to a whole new world. Had the privilege of shaking his hand and exchangin a few workds after the concert...what a gentleman
Thanks for the video. Cheers to all

Roland Dyens is my favorite guitarist, I've never seen anyone else do what he has done on a classical guitar. I feel like he was the only true master of the instrument as a whole. But what blows me away ever time I listen to him is how much control he has on each voice in a piece. No matter how complexe the harmonisation, he would always make it intelligible. Every single note is played with the right intent, the right volumn, the right attack. Anyway, thank you for this tribute.

I follow, Dyans resonate with me for the same reasons: super master of the production of sound on guitar. He is very deep into his intention.

Hey, Lucas... this is going to be a long comment.
First, glad to see a new video from you.
Second, so nice to find out that we share a profound admiration for Roland Dyens. I can hardly play several chords on guitar, but I love this instrument. And I had the occasion to see Roland Dyens once live, in Bucharest. I've been completely mesmerized. His Libra Sonatina is a masterpiece! I'd love to be able to play some of his more sophisticated songs.... and the news of him passing away in 2016 really made me very very sad. It was a cruelly untimely death. I can only hope that his legacy, his eclectic approach to guitar will endure.
Third, it's a nice old guitar the one that you play in this video. And very funny way of inserting the microphone in the inside :)
Those small holes on the front of the guitar - do they serve a purpose, or are they just part of the patina of the instrument?
Keep up the good work. I'm waiting for Tango En Skay, but it's jazz. You know, 2-5-1, cause the walking bass is already there, right? :) :) :)
I'm sue Roland Dyens would appreciate such a rendition!

Roland dyens was the first guitarrist who I truly started to learn when I was a child. I learned many of his compositions on my childhood and he is the guitarrist that most shaped my playing style. It is great to appreciate his music once again after so many years have passed.

I remember going to a special week for students who wanted to take extra lessons from a well respected teacher from the University level and one of the students played this piece. I became obsessed with Roland Dyens too. I'd love to see more of his repertoire played by you. Greetings from Spain.

Rolland would be proud of what you're doing! He always found new ways to play and new sounds and effects on the guitar. He once commented that in his arrangements of songs like "La Vie en Rose" he even tried to capture the breathing of the singer! Your arrangements and performances remind me very much of Roland!

I had a few important guitar teachers in my life and Roland was my favourite as a composer. He taught me some composition too. He was awesome, and in private always ready to play and improvise in many styles. He loved jazz, he loved all Brazilian music… mentioned Egberto Gismonti as a huge influence and adored Bach. He was very fond of Sor too, and played Giuliani like a dream. His talent was limitless and he worked all the time. I miss him a lot as a friend and inspiration, he really left too soon. Your video is great and Roland would enjoy hearing you play his music. Thank you.

Dyens… his music and arrangements are perhaps the most intricate to play not only because of the high technical level required, it also demands a high level of musicianship. He indeed made use of all the expressive possibilities of the guitar. Nice video.

Amazing Lucas, such a wonderful and touching tribute. I thoroughly enjoyed your performances here! My first exposure to Roland Dyens, was through my brother who learned that piece and performed Tango en Skai in a concert in my hometown. That was the first time I heard it and I was like what on earth was that!!! Since that time I've listened to many of his wonderful compositions, and what a unique musician Roland Dyens was. Truly a gift that keeps giving to the world, even though he's not physically with us anymore, and I definitely can hear his spirit in your playing Lucas, congratulations you're carrying on his legacy. :)

Calm down guy, I like you and your enthusiasm, but the best guitar composer? Federico Moreno Torroba, Agustin Barrios, Antonio Lauro,, Villalobos, Tarrega, should I keep going? Roland is fantastic, but there's no need to go over the top.

    • @ericmintz6689
      @ericmintz6689 9 месяцев назад

@@niceguitar6144 Your point is well taken, though none of the great composers you mention were still active when I was born (and, regrettably, I did not have the honor of meeting any of them). Perhaps I should have qualified my statement with “modern” (i.e. second half of the 20th century). His compositions for guitar were so creative - listen to the ones for on his first CD, Nuages. Sure, you left off your list Leo Brouwer. He was great (and likely influenced Roland), but I prefer Dyens style of exploratory modern composition.

No offense taken. It was a surprise meeting on an AirFrance flight. He traveled in economy class as I did. When we deplaned he was anxious about missing his connecting flight to a performance on the West coast. I helped carry his guitar and convinced an airport guard to help him through immigration. We spent a few minutes together afterwards and he kept in touch by email afterward. He was kind and in good humor even then, though I’m sure he knew the end was near. It’s a treasured memory.

As a kid who started playing guitar in the ‘80s, I was overly-exposed to electric guitar shredders of that era. I got the opportunity to watch Carlos Montoya perform live at a local performing arts center, and although enjoyed it immensely, did not comprehend the gravity of witnessing a concert performed by a then living legend. Today, I cherish that experience, because as we all grow, our tastes change, and I absolutely adore finger-style Classical, Flamenco, Jazz, etc.,
