Roland Dyens plays Saudade no 3 (Oct 17, 2013) Tucson AZ

A towering figure in classical guitar, his memory continues to live on through his works. At that time in 2013, playing the iconic Saudade no. 3 for the composer himself seemed daunting and “risky” as Dyens musingly remarked, but in hindsight it gave us a small glimpse into his artistic genius and left me with an unforgettable lesson. Dyens was supremely thorough and exacting, but most of all he was genuinely helpful, kind, humorous and full of wit. I recall him jokingly ask if I knew the composer of the piece the piece I just played, which instantly drew laughter from the audience, and also helped pacify my protesting nerves.
