Professor Roland Dyens is one of the most exciting classical guitarists ! The berimbau is a single string percussion instrument, a musical bow, from Brazil. Originally from Africa where it receives different names, the berimbau was eventually incorporated into the practice of the Afro-Brazilian martial art capoeira, the berimbau or the soul of capoeira leads the capoeiristas movement in the roda the faster the berimbau is playing the faster the capoeirista moves in the game. The instrument is known for being the subject matter of a popular song by Brazilian guitarist Baden Powell, with lyrics by Vinicius de Moraes ...
Roland Dyens is by far the most inventive and innovative guitar composer of modern times...He's first and foremost and mainly a dedicated musician of extreme skill and wit.
What an incredible player this man is! The sounds he gets out of the guitar are just unbelievable, especially the berimbao bit at the beginning and the percussive part starting at 4.48. In fact, the whole piece is total class!
And this interpretation is amazing... his timbre on the guitar is makes it seems like an elemental musical instrument from the mistic forces of nature... open your ears!
My father often took me and by brother to gallary, when I saw a painting that I dislike the most, I will call my brother first, and tell him that dad will love this, so my brother went and call my father, and my father came and praise us that we are genius to have good sight and appriciation this great art, and magically that I never fail in my younger days.
Watch this guy @4:30 an incredible sequence - Ive rarely heard such an innovative technic on guitar % He's a born in Tunisia french guitarist ...you can feel the oriental inspiration in his way to play n to use a guitar
He makes a mistake in 2:20 but this version is full of chromatism and the arrangament is simply brilliant he pushes the guitar to higher level. No doubt Mr. Roland is the top three guitarist in the world but I can't find the two others :-).

+motta0 Berimbau is a wonderful hymn. Please listen versions Yamandú Costa, Toquinho and Vinicius and the various versions of the same Baden Powell, all very different, but all beautiful
How is he able to mimick the sound of the berimbau with the guitar (beside that he's an expert musician)? Something about the way his instrument is tuned?
lol, berimbau is an ancient african instrument, and this piece is based on the homonomous piece by brazilian guitar master Baden Powell, search it and u will be surprised.
man this is not his own composition and all that he wants is to evocate the berimbau, through the effects . all this effects take the place of the original sompositions human voice . srry for my english im from romania. .

In my opinion there was none greater! I was blessed to have seen him live many years ago. I’ll never forget the impact it had on me

Really superior arrangement and performance. Unbelievable, Dyens rest in peace, you are immortal in our minds through your music.
doesnt happen often, that, when watching a musician play, that youre watching pure genius in action.........
I listened without watching, it is extraordinary! The rhythm, development and form, spot on.
RIP, MONSIEUR
Amazing playing! Greatly missed...R.I.P. ,Roland
the rhythmic independence and impeccable control of all the musical aspect of this piece is just awesome.

And this interpretation is amazing... his timbre on the guitar is makes it seems like an elemental musical instrument from the mistic forces of nature... open your ears!
simply incredible, once again Mr. Dyens do it possible
Juste mélange de modernité et de tradition. Merci d'avoir partagé.

The sound is to emulate a Berimbau, which is the instrument that's title of the song used in Capoeira fights in Brazil.
Magnifique
magically!
no words....
Music genious!

3: 50 brilliant
Whoah!
Not sure about this one, Number one arrabgement is Cacho Tirao
that sign behind him actually wasn't there when he started. it manifested when he finished playing...
He makes a mistake in 2:20 but this version is full of chromatism and the arrangament is simply brilliant he pushes the guitar to higher level. No doubt Mr. Roland is the top three guitarist in the world but I can't find the two others :-).
this is a way toooooo difficult. I start with the Angelo Franzi arr.
but one day ;)

They should invent a Berimbau instrument that way we don't have to play it on guitar.
@Dhammawitt Lol, the Berimbau IS ALREADY an instrument
sounds just like a real Berimbau .
killer
Wowwwwwwwwwwwww
Ha ha ha! 25 dislikes! This has got to be a joke, right?
Ellinous Anorymous Perhaps those are the tone deaf..
Did he almost forget to tune down? I just wondering why he detained the low E in the middle of the percussive stuff at the beginning
god like teacher :D
+Kate Littlefoot listen to Toquinho`s version, it`s very different from this one, better in my opinion
+motta0 Berimbau is a wonderful hymn. Please listen versions Yamandú Costa, Toquinho and Vinicius and the various versions of the same Baden Powell, all very different, but all beautiful

Yep. Lots of bending of strings too.
Cross the strings overtop of eachother. When combined with a rasgueado it sounds like a snare drum roll
lol, berimbau is an ancient african instrument, and this piece is based on the homonomous piece by brazilian guitar master Baden Powell, search it and u will be surprised.
@coralgrouper Oui. Pourquoi?
Step up to the next level......................
