Accurate Tern 2 VS Shimano Ocea Jigger | Best Reel for SLOW PITCH?

  • Slow pitch jigging is a super cool technique. The slow flutter of a jig is irresistible to most offshore species. Good gear is an extremely important piece of jigging. You've got to have a light setup with a very good drag to get it right. A star drag reel is also very helpful because you can easily go from free spool to your fishing drag precisely with the flip of a switch.

    I have both Shimano and Accurate reels and both fish flawlessly. I lean towards the Accurate for the stainless interior components. I'll sacrifice a little weight for longevity. Accurate is also American made.

    One of my favourite things about jigging is the gear. The super lightweight rods and amazing reels which are awesome to use, hold and even look at! These reels are amazing examples of modern technology.

    I am a veteran when it comes to jigging of all sort and having using both of these i can tell u nothing beats the shimano OJ when it comes to precision buttery smooth drag, refinement and longevity!

      JUST SERVICED MY 2 OCEA JIGGER, LIKE IT SAID ABOVE, THE BRASS MAIN GEARS GOT SOME COPPER GREEN ON BOTH. BUT, ON THE OTHER SIDE, THE DRAG SMOOTHNESS IS UNBEATABLE, CAUGHT SEVERAL BF TUNA 50-100 POUND RANGE. THE DRAG NEVER JERK ONCE, NO MATTER YOUR DRAG SETTING. AND VERY EASY TO SERVICE IT YOURSELF.

      @@brandonstill7229 It is an awesome reel.
      i have the 2-speed and mostly use for bottom fishing. It is aesthetically pleasing and almost frictionless like free spool. you certain can jig with it if the back-play does not bother you! I like it More than the Shimano Talica!

    The OJ is aluminum body. Not composite

    I'd go with the Accurate Shimono uses brass gears instead of stainless & a cheaper grade of aluminum on the reel body but I do like Shimono's reel handle a lot better, in conclusion the Diawa Saltiga is the best of both Worlds.

I don't even slow jig that often I just love how jigging reels look and feel and can definitely be used as an all purpose reel. Used it in pretty much every different fishing application from fresh to salt n it's amazing. Enjoy ur Shimano tho.🤗

    I don’t know how so many reviews get it wrong. The Tern 2 does NOT apply drag to both sides of the spool. Even Accurate says it doesn’t. That’s not how Star drags work at all! It’s hard to take a review seriously that gets such a simple detail so very wrong. I own both reels and like them both but the Shimano is better for slow pitch because of the auto engage. The Tern 2 is still an awesome reel and I like it for live bait fishing and even some surf casting.

    • @tailwateroutfitters
      @tailwateroutfitters  Год назад +1

      Hey rhett, thanks for the clarification. It has drag discs on both sides of the main gear, not the spool. Thanks for pointing out that mistake

  • @marshmallow220
    @marshmallow220 5 месяцев назад

    One downside to take seriously with the auto lock with a half turn on the ocea jigger , if your a heavy caster getting it up current it does not take much to lock up while casting i have seen two people have there whole set ups go for a death swim into the deep blue because of this i know a backlash can do the same if you want to minimize the risk you may want to choose the tern.

    • @jaimegutierrez9106
      @jaimegutierrez9106 5 месяцев назад

      As I understand, the Shimano is not designed as a casting reel. It's strictly a vertical application.

      I would compare the saltiga lever system with the Shimano Talica. The Shimano OJ is not the same breed, its a star drag system.

      Bullshit. Accurate owners are brothers who were machinists in the aircraft parts business that decided to make precision reels. What does shimano have to do with them? They invented and patented the twin drag technology.
