Props to Michael C Hall this season for doing show while having cancer. I hate how this season gets so much hate, this was one of my absolute favorite seasons.
I like Lumen. Had a darkness thrust inside her by the actions of evil men. Understandably wanted revenge. Got revenge. Got out. Because her darkness isn't her. She's strong enough to move on. Julia Stiles did a great job with this one.
The first time I saw this - when she leaves...I felt that. His pain. The face twitches, the denial, the begging, leading up to his explosion, and then immediate acceptance of what was beyond his control. Accepting that he had successfully helped her attain vengeance and peace and that the cycle was only his to repeat. The fact that he had to fake emotions all his life and finally starts to feel them is excellent character development. His prior experience doesn't go away with the nuance, he merely gets confused by the fact that he can feel - after believing his whole life that he never could. This show was well done.
you are absolutely right its just i dont think that he was faking everything with rita he started to understand that there was more to life than his codex with rita, she was the first one awaken him and his feeelings, of course he had much more in commmon with lumen but still that innocent part of his life that he encountered with rita was the first thing real he had in his life
idk why everyone hates on season 5. seeing Dexter work with someone that's actually normal and yet fully and accepts and helps him was so good to watch. on top of that the antagonists for the season made my blood boil more than any of the previous ones. it was a great season
for real, everyone else had some troubling pasts that led them to whk they were, ruined childhood in their own way, and with Trinity - if people recall, he was reliving his trauma when he did those things, he didn't enjoy it... heck, there was this scene where he poured scortched boiling water on himself, like some sort of punishment... all of them had some background story to what they did... but these guys? they simply did what they did out of sheer spite, they took their time with their victims, they enjoyed it, filmed it... it was sheer eviln evilness... and to see Dexter help Luman get the revenge is soul healing, plus it's clear and he says that as well, in a way... that's his way to get redemption for Rita... this season put Dexter through a lot of tests
This was the most troubling storyline for me. What happened to Lumen is every woman's nightmare, but her getting revenge was satisfying and then her transcending what Dexter was and walking away was great.
Julia is such a good actor. Around 11:09 when looking at the picture of one of the guys, her mouth gets tight, she shows her bottom teeth, and her nostrils flare. If you’ve ever seen the body language of someone genuinely angry, almost vengeance like anger, she portrays it perfectly just for a split second. It just instantly stuck out to me.
This duo was fantastic, both were going through their own trauma and they helped each other through it. Deb letting her go was probably one of the best moments because she also knew what Lumen went through
There was a time when i couldnt stand her. When all she did was terrible teen movies where she has a permanent scowl on her face. then i saw her in Dexter and she was absolutely incredible, killed every scene she was in.
18:59 holy shit the whole sequence is SO GOOD. Her standing there. the SCREAMS going off all over the room. the guy running shitless for a gun or something. Dexter knocking him out so easily. *Cheff Kiss*
Honestly I think if Lumen came back some random killer would get her as payback against Dexter. She was better for Dexter but Dexter isn't better for her if you catch my drift.

I loved this season honestly. It was so refreshing for Dexter to be with someone who he didn't constantly have to hide from. Rita was amazing but the constant frustrations trying to balance his two lives gave me a headache
I’m so upset they cut her out. She was such a good character and they did so well developing her relationship with Dexter. Like they could’ve just stuck with her the rest of the series and had a bunch of interesting storylines. I just rewatched Dexter for the 3rd time and I’m on season 6. But I gotta say the end of 4 and 5 are absolutely gut wrenching…
Omg, yes. I was furious when they had her leave. Like, she didn't have to kill with Dexter anymore, but I feel like she should have stayed and eventually help him out of his own darkness.
29:30 The video ends here but the conversation continued. I remember Dexter says, rather emotionally: "You got over your darkness, but I'll carry it for you."
I've never been a big Julia Styles fan but man, she totally nailed this character. I believe it's the best role that she's ever played tbh. I like how they made her totally unglamorous, which was more authentic I think and Styles did an excellent job of projecting-what we think-this kind of victim would experience. Styles should've gotten a tv award for this one imo.
In my opinion one of the best seasons one of the best characters one of the best storylines And one of the best vulnerable dexter especially when she left him!
I know this is crazy. This is my favorite season after season 1. I like Julia, her and Michael had amazing chemistry. Love the whole Bonnie and Clyde thing too.
I know at the end Lumen said she didnt need to kill anymore but I like to think her dark passenger never left and she is putting those Dexter lessons to use
Same. I had this alternate ending in my mind, where Lumen goes on the cruise with her fiancee, and in the middle of the night, Dexter gets a frantic call that she killed him with a knife when she had a panic attack because everything he said just seemed too normal. And Dexter had to board the ship mid cruise to help her dump the body and disappear off the ship in the middle of the night .
Lumen was more on a vengeance path, while Dexter was obviously more...well, his killer instinct. His motivations were always based on his urges and needing that code to keep him in line. Lumen needed an outlet for her pain, but once her pain was satisfied, that was it. I mean, she probably is never gonna fully overcome it, but she could be live with it and not become like Dexter. She's truly one of the greats of this show.
Dexter just wanted someone in his life who understood him, who accepted him for who he was without judgment. It's why he latched on to Lumen and Hannah after Rita's death. Hell, I'd wager he was more attached to Lumen based on his reaction to her leaving at the end of the season. Yeah, personally, I think they should have kept Lumen around. Even if she decided not to kill anymore, she could have simply been there for Dexter as support. She could have been his guiding light.
Jordan had one of the best final scenes before a kill that any villain in the show has had imo I loved how there was an actual back and fourth Dex and Lumen tried to get into his head shaming him about his past but he seemingly brushed it off given he didn't have much problem with who he became and then tried to get into Lumen's head about what she'd turned into as a Result of his actions I always like it when villains don't show much fear when on the table and instead use their last moments actually having a Genuine conversation with Dex rather than just the typical pleading or fear stuff.
Though there were several iterations during the series, she was also the best representation of Dexter's longing to be known, accepted, and even appreciated for his true self. Unfortunately it only lasted during her crisis.
Lumen should have lived up to the potential of her name and been Dexter's guiding light away from his dark passenger. Having gone to the dark side and back, she was in the perfect position to do just that.
Well, dammit. I’ve got other things I could be checking out and possibly even being productive with but after watching this video, it makes me wanna start re-watching the entire series. Great video.
I love the script in this. 16:38 is a powerful but simple line. “Just let go?” Had so much meaning for her character in that situation. Reminds me of a dream I had. My best friend had passed away in a car accident (in real life) and I had been struggling with the fact I had moved away and hadn’t kept in contact with her the last year, being so angry at myself for it. I had a dream about her where she felt so real. I was standing in front of a creek with pieces of a wrecked car all over. Then she appeared on the other side of the creek, grabbing a part of the car and motioning for me to help her pull it. She just smiled at me as we held onto a car door from either sides of the bank. She said “let it go.” in a comforting voice, and we let the wreckage float away down the creek.
This was the last season it had that same numb haunting tone. The way he acted the part was just a bit different, but distinctly different after his cancer and divorce.
Season 5 had it's up's and downs, but was still way better than season 6. Dexter and Lumen's relationship was one of the best parts and how they ended it was glorious. So glad she resolved her darkness thanks to Dexter, but once it burned away, she realized his never will.
Lumen was alright. This season's villain, though, was by far the most IRRITATING character I've ever had the misfortune to watch on a screen. But then, John Lithgow's Trinity killer is an IMPOSSIBLE act to follow. The quality really took a hit after the end of season 4. "Tick-Tick-Tick-, Mr. Chase. That's the sound of me turning off the TV."
I miss this series so much. I wish they would have gone a little further instead of ending it the way they did. It would have been nice to see if Harrison would continue Dexter's legacy or if he stopped completely, after killing his Dad.
I think lumen reminded Dexter of Rita which is why he always had a soft spot for her. While I don’t hate Hannah as much other fans do I do agree that lumen had more chemistry with Dexter but Dexter knew that Lumen had a soul and wasn’t a bad person and he didn’t want to corrupt her I believe.
I wanted Lila and Dexter to be a couple. Lila dies. I wanted Lumen and Dexter to be a couple. Lumen leaves. I wanted the Garden lady and Dexter to grow old together. Dexter "dies".
I love lumen realizing what Dexter is, she realized the first guy he killed wasn’t his first and wasn’t an accident. Sharing he’s done this before and for a long time. She completely saw him full darkness and wasn’t turning away because she now had the passenger and needed to do what he does.
This season touched me so much.. I literally have unrealistic expectations of men because of Dexter avenging Lumen. My husband will understand my desire for revenge against my rapist.. and either help me, or stand back and stfu while I get it. 😂
This season is up there with s1-4. Not to mention the ending (for me its the real ending of Dexter) Its bittersweet.. and not like s8 just depressing af.

Hannah is a harsh reminder that bad people win in the end because they do what none of us with a conscious will. What can i expect tho, this dude doesn’t like dogs lmaoo

The story was awful tho, dexter would not have let her live after discovering she tried poisoning his sister. So yea, the story was meh but the character most definitely was not. What can i expect tho, this dude doesn’t like dogs lmaoo
He was pretty comfortable with Miguel.
@@ryanrich7133Dexter should have seriously killed her after he found out she poisoned Deb. I was so disappointed when he didnt and she escaped, I couldn’t even bear myself to watch season 8 after that.
shoutout to dexter paramount person!
I love this season. Such good story telling
10:39 😂😂😂 Vince catching strays
This was a really good season, Lumen was a great character, even better than Hannah I think
Julia Stiles (Lumen) has been good in everything I've seen her in (I haven't seen everything she's been in). Good actress.
What have you seen so far? I can tell she’s a good actress
Julia was the STUFF in season!
Day 4 of asking for a Dexter vs Miguel compilation
Fr man they got no Miguel vids
Yes
8:02 “HA!” That seemed a bit like payback… Poor lumen 😢
Her revenge scene would've been so much better if the captions had said "critters kid groaning" instead of "red bearded man", lol
