Some say that woman kneeling in the later part (in the middle of flame and chaos) is also gloam eyed queen, as the weapon she seems to hold looks like art version of godskin peeler (a little too long of a shot imho)
For my fiancé’s birthday, I got him the Rivers of Blood sword. I took the sword and made dark red paint and splattered it along the blade. I wrapped the box and wrote the beginning monologue of Elden Ring on it repeatedly until it covered the whole box. The sword is meant to get him through until Shadow of the Erdtree comes out (since it comes out 12 days after his birthday). I planned a whole Elden Ring party to celebrate the release of the DLC and maybe have a play-through with friends to experience it together but I doubt it’ll happen since I haven’t told anyone about it.

The person at the beginning is Marika first ascending to godhood. Hense why Miquella is speaking of the "beginning". When the elden ring was formed, the erdtree was born. when you see all these corpses on the ground that she's walking over, it would make sense that the erdree grew from them cause the erdtree roots are made of corpses. Only way that he's part of the group is that he's using the branch, but why would he say that they need to follow his footsteps? That would mean he's basically backtracking, when it's clear that the followers are following his journey towards the shadow lands.

I saw someone have a really great take: because of the Erd Tree being destroyed in the Shadowlands Below, Dying there is certain Destined Death. All of those Grace points with Miquella's rune are part of what He gave up for us. He gave up everything in the hope and belief us, the Tarnished may one day take back the Shadowlands Below from Messmer the Impaler's reign. That's why we see that gorgeous shot of all Us Tarnished gathering to acknowledge Miquella's kind and noble sacrifice.

I'm interested in whether messmer is even the final boss of this DLC, as fromsoft never usually shows the final bosses in the trailers. Miquella is a bit suspicious, because he is known by everybody to be very 'kind' but his main thing is that people around him gain affection for him, so how much of the 'kindness' and compliements he gets are true?, what if those comments are from people being under miquella's power. Which is why I have a sneaky suspicion that he's the final boss.

About Miquella casting off his flesh and fate, maybe that's just a prerequisite for getting to the shadowlands (forgot the real name of the place) to begin with. Maybe in order to get there at all, you have to sacrifice who you were before. This would also make a good excuse for why everyone starts "from scratch" for the DLC as well, for the secondary level thing

AGTJake did a rlly good break down of this trailer too, he even theorized that Miquella created all the sites of grace and they all have his rune above them, but its shrouded so we cant see it in the Lands Between
So the other demigod siblings came in threes( godwyn morgott and mohg, ranni rykard and radahn) so the theory I've seen the most is that the final three are miquella malenia and messmer, with godwyn being the firstborn of godfrey so he was given a unique name resembling his father

Mesmer's attack where the spears come out of the ground make me think of the sacrd phalanx ash of war. Which is used by the cleanrot knights who are kind of related to Miquella.

5:50 (or :38 on the trailer) the purplish-gray skies of the Gloam-Eyed Queen changing to the golden skies of the Golden Order. the red walls made of skinned corpses also form the base of the Erd Tree. im pretty sure its the inside of it, were we fight Radagon, though it might be the outside were we fight Morgott. Obviously after so long its no longer fleshy but tree like. I haven't been keeping up with lore discoveries and stuff so i don't know if it was confirmed or not but now im even more sure that the Gloam-Eyed Queen is Melena and she is Marika's daughter along with Mesmer being her son. i really wonder just how many kids she really has/had.
The person at 0:59 in the gameplay trailer can be found in Liurnia, they are lying dead south of the meeting place where the key to the academy can be found. I don't know if anyone else noticed them there, also for some reason a group of albinauric surround them when you go near them. Idkif that was a glitch but most of them surrounded their body rather than attacking me seeming like they were protecting the item on their body.

Jack, when Mesmer ignites the flame at 17:16, for a split second it looks like the dragon communion seal. Combine this with his eyes (which is what the Tarnished get when eating 3 dragon hearts), I believe that Mesmer is either a follower of the dragons or a vessel for their god (hence the serpent/dragons around him and the unique looking fire). Just a thought, but I've literally seen NOBODY comment on this.
My theory is that the shadow of the erd tree is the side of death, where things and people of "death" live and thats why miquella is there, I think it suggests that they left their golden skin because they chose not to be born a new from their egg like they we're meant to be.
Okay so far I feel that the start of the trailer is; Marika taking strands of hair outside of either; pregnant belly of gloam eyed queen OR the eye of Godwyn after the betrayal of letting Ranni orchestrate the blades to kill him
I would like to think that the tree in the land of shadow is another tree, seprate from the erdtree. But it's smaller, and Messmer uses it as a guinee pig for his flames in attemt to burn the towering golden erdtree from how damaged it looks.

It should be noted that it is only the demigods and the ancient creatures in the Lands Between that speak old English. All the NPCs speak, while deliberate and cryptic in their own way, relatively modern English, which is very much intentional I think.
I think that Mesmer has a lot to do with the Formless Mother. He appears to wield a type of bloodflame, and as Sean pointed out, his spear looks a lot like Mohg’s. He also says the word “Mother” which could either refer to Marika or the Formless Mother
I wonder if Miquella tried to resurrect the Erdtree using shreds of Marika's grace taken from her corpse, and in so doing created the shadow that Messmer commands, the guilt of which caused Miquella to abandon his power, perhaps in an effort to contain Messmer. Alternatively, "abandon... his golden flesh, his blinding strength" could mean Miquella gave up his physical form, the body left in the egg, to allow his spirit to wander freely?

During Messmer's segment, the person impaled with several spears on the stairs is probably the old man from the reveal trailer, which means the woman-like figure you see burning afterwards is also likely the one in the painting from said trailer.
okay so small thought, might be nothing, Maybe Mesmer was left in the shadowlands not only to safeguard the area in which Marika originated but also because he might be proof of her dual nature as Radagon? Mesmer might be her first child since she hasn't even met Godfrey yet and to keep her plot under wraps she left him behind under the guise of a guardian.

So this trailer is like a prequel to everything and setting up the story for the DLC. I feel like Messmer might be the original holder of the Death rune. His red flames coming out of his hand reminded me a lot of when the death rune was awakend. The snake imagery makes me think that there is a connection between messmer and volcano manor/Ryykard. Like maybe he was slumbering inside Ryykard slowly regenerating himself through all the devoured bodies. It would also make sense why Ryykard was so obsessed with "devouring the gods" because Messmer was in his head pushing him down that path. Also maybe he was the progenitor to the snake people? Either way it seems like Messmar was an ancient enemy from before Marikas ascension into godhood and now that we've undone the current order by the end of the main story Messmer has somehow made his way back to the lands between to take back what was his.
those "sites" are clearly the new graces, it was said that we don't follow the grace anymore, and we follow in miquella's steps , so grace + miquella = miquella's site of "grace" also at the end kf the trailer while the npcs and the tarnished look at that grace while scraping the ground, the narrator says about choosing to follow, "follow" being the key word
I think Messmer could be Miquella. Messmer has red hair.. It's like Radagon being Marika. Plus, M names, yeah? This whole trailer tells of Miquella being fed up with the shenanigans and leaves. I don't have much else to base this on, but I think that's what it is. Or Miquella had a child.. with Melina??? and Messmer is that child lol. That also makes sense from all the fire in this and Melina burning the tree. Leaves St. Trina.. becomes Messmer.
I doubt it honestly. Miquella is the only one of Radagon's children to _not_ have red hair. But if you know the theory about the butterflies in the game. Nascent - Miquella, aeonian - Malenia, and no one could figure out what the smoldering butterfly is supposed to be but its probably Messmer. Hes gotta be Malenia and Miquella's long lost brother. Def got kicked out of the Lands Between at some point. Hes obviously a bad dude so I think Miquella's trying to put him down for good

Beyond that, we see Messmer but not Miquella.. but we do see, assuming, St. Trina dead/lifeless while also being told Miquella left his fate and his flesh. In the first trailer, "mother, wouldst thou truly lordship sanction.." as Messmer is on the screen. This trailer reads as if Miquella wasn't keen on what was going on, so he left. They also show someone who looks like Rennala.. which is the person we go to to be "born anew" and cradles an egg Radagon gave her.. Miquellas body is in an egg on top of a pelvis. Radagon being Marika shows that when things happen/change.. they are able to become something else. Radagon has red hair.. Marika has blond. Miquella has blond hair.. Messmer has red. Also, it seems that when the family goes to battle, their hair goes red. We fight Radagon, not Marika. We fight Malenia. Miquella is nowhere to be seen, apart from St. Trina shots, but we do fight Messmer. Everyone we fight in that family has red hair. I'm not banking on me being right lol. I just don't think it's too farfetched of an idea. Hell, even the butterflies can be explained because either way St. Trina/Miquella existed and so do the butterflies.. but now Messmer also exists and now the butterflies do too. Aaaaand at the start, "Miquella the Kind" and then later on "Miquella kindly.." He's mentioned as kind twice in this trailer.. why mention him being kind twice? And Malenia becoming the blade of Miquella. And wasn't sleep surrounded by tales of a "fair haired golden child?" So Miquella has always been labeled as kind of a.. whimp. Sorry for the long-winded thing, but it's just fun to speculate 😂
@@mcsquizzieee Marika's hair changed color because her and Radagon are the same person, but other than that, it's just an aspect that runs in the family ig. Miquella and Messmer just seem too opposed to really be the same, neither of them seems to approve of the Erdtree order but Miquella wanted a perfected, gentler kind of gold free of any of the outer gods, whereas Messmer is more into sticking people on spikes and lighting things on fire. Maybe Messmer started worshipping the great serpent. Miquella probably detached his soul from his body Ranni-style, so maybe we will see him or maybe not. He is a wimp but out of necessity, not much fighting he can do if he's eternally cursed to never grow up. I think he's just the kind of person that has to work through subtle influence instead of taking the fight to someone else himself. He'd probably be pitting people against one another, but he does it for what is ultimately a good purpose. Overall I really doubt hes a bad guy. If he uses some underhanded tactics he does so out of necessity; in a world where everything is out to get you, sometimes you have to play that way. Compare that to people like Rykard who wants to eat the earth as an immortal snake man, Godrick who chops people up and sticks limbs onto himself for fun, and Mohg aka Satan with added bleed damage, and Miquella's practically a saint
I think Melina is Miquella and St. Trina's child. Melina uses sleep to our character when she transports us to Farum Azula. But idk what Miyazaki has in his pocket so we all could be wrong 😂

I think that the symbolism of the female reproductive system is going to have something to do with the fact that Queen Marika was impaled and could not have kids. I think that its mesmer that did it for multiple reasons. 1. Mesmer is known as the Impaler and uses a spear, a weapon fitting for stabbing. This aligns with the image of a spear piercing Marika’s side in the cutscene leading into the boss fight with Radagon, where the spear has the black and red hues associated with Destined Death. 2. the spear that stabs Marika has the black and red colors tied to Destined Death. Mesmer is characterized by these colors, suggesting he might be connected to the use of this spear and the power of Destined Death, which is significant in the lore for its ability to truly kill demigods. 3. Mesmer's association with symbols of blasphemy, such as snakes and fire, suggests he stands against the Erdtree's sanctity. I do think that the Broken Tree is the Erd Tree in the "Shadow lands". I think the whole game is to be set in an alternate dimension of the Lands Between. That's why she was saying a war "unseen" was happening coz nobody in the Lands Between knows about the Shadow Lands, except perhaps some demigods like Miquella, Marika etc.
It’s interesting to notice that Miquella’s theme is more hopeful than it would ever be compared to other souls’ theme. I believe the only one that would give me the same vibe is Gwynevere’s and yet it was just an illusion. Is Miquella really the kind Empyrean? Or is he just a facade, being the most feared Empyrean of the Lands Between? In any ways, I’m so hyped for the game to come out!
I have seen so many analysis videos of Elden Ring's lore and this trailer now and not one of them ever noticed that the bangle on Marika's wrist is of a two-headed snake!
Could the place at the start be the crucible? we know that before the golden order crucible was the join of all life so maybe like marika meddling with the crucible was what made the war happen and mesmer is like the first son of marika as result of interference with golden order but due to her(marika) winning the war the land was tainted by the shadow of the work done by marika and miquella like wants to go to this crucible thing; also the snake thing can symbolize why the ulcerated tree spirits exist kind of like crucible + snakes evolved into those tree spirits. Also i think mesmer's imagery of imapling in the war scene is also like vlad (the impaler) dracula and how he use to tyrannically invade kingdoms

Messmer might kill the theory of Melina being the sister of Malenia and Miquella. Since the smouldering butterfly now fits him way more than Melina since he actually uses flame unlike Melina who just burned herself once. Plus the naming scheme also works. So he might be the third sibling in the trio and not Melina
I think this is the beginning of the erdtree seeing the gold going into the tree and the golden ruin sights look like they are the sights of grace. And overtime they turned into what they look like in the main game

Feel like the opening could be depicting Marika creating the Elden Ring and establishing the greater will in place of "The Crucible" and that gave rise to the Lands Between we know along with The Land of Shadow as a byproduct cast aside from grace and consumed by war and turmoil
Miquella had a special relationship w godwyn so presumably he went to the shadow lands to try to bring him back. He would have had to divest himself of his grace and abandon his place as an imperian aka giving up his fate. The shadow of the erd tree is its own thing and was created at the same time as the erd tree. You can also see marika's rune in gold in the shadow tree. So the working theory is that marika is taking life from the unseen lands to power the erd tree

I saw someone have a really great take: because of the Erd Tree being destroyed in the Shadowlands Below, Dying there is certain Destined Death. All of those Grace points with Miquella's rune are part of what He gave up for us. He gave up everything in the hope and belief us, the Tarnished may one day take back the Shadowlands Below from Messmer the Impaler's reign. That's why we see that gorgeous shot of all Us Tarnished gathering to acknowledge Miquella's kind and noble sacrifice.

I'm interested in whether messmer is even the final boss of this DLC, as fromsoft never usually shows the final bosses in the trailers. Miquella is a bit suspicious, because he is known by everybody to be very 'kind' but his main thing is that people around him gain affection for him, so how much of the 'kindness' and compliements he gets are true?, what if those comments are from people being under miquella's power. Which is why I have a sneaky suspicion that he's the final boss.
For all the build up, I hope Messmer has either a HARD fight or a second phase.

About Miquella casting off his flesh and fate, maybe that's just a prerequisite for getting to the shadowlands (forgot the real name of the place) to begin with. Maybe in order to get there at all, you have to sacrifice who you were before. This would also make a good excuse for why everyone starts "from scratch" for the DLC as well, for the secondary level thing

AGTJake did a rlly good break down of this trailer too, he even theorized that Miquella created all the sites of grace and they all have his rune above them, but its shrouded so we cant see it in the Lands Between

the beginning could be Marika offering up "an arcane rune" to build the elden ring. the first accord made with the Elden beast - shaping the world - dividing it into the lands between and the lands of shadow.

Mesmer's attack where the spears come out of the ground make me think of the sacrd phalanx ash of war. Which is used by the cleanrot knights who are kind of related to Miquella.

5:50 (or :38 on the trailer) the purplish-gray skies of the Gloam-Eyed Queen changing to the golden skies of the Golden Order. the red walls made of skinned corpses also form the base of the Erd Tree. im pretty sure its the inside of it, were we fight Radagon, though it might be the outside were we fight Morgott. Obviously after so long its no longer fleshy but tree like. I haven't been keeping up with lore discoveries and stuff so i don't know if it was confirmed or not but now im even more sure that the Gloam-Eyed Queen is Melena and she is Marika's daughter along with Mesmer being her son. i really wonder just how many kids she really has/had.

The person at 0:59 in the gameplay trailer can be found in Liurnia, they are lying dead south of the meeting place where the key to the academy can be found. I don't know if anyone else noticed them there, also for some reason a group of albinauric surround them when you go near them. Idkif that was a glitch but most of them surrounded their body rather than attacking me seeming like they were protecting the item on their body.

Jack, when Mesmer ignites the flame at 17:16, for a split second it looks like the dragon communion seal. Combine this with his eyes (which is what the Tarnished get when eating 3 dragon hearts), I believe that Mesmer is either a follower of the dragons or a vessel for their god (hence the serpent/dragons around him and the unique looking fire). Just a thought, but I've literally seen NOBODY comment on this.
My theory is that the shadow of the erd tree is the side of death, where things and people of "death" live and thats why miquella is there, I think it suggests that they left their golden skin because they chose not to be born a new from their egg like they we're meant to be.
Okay so far I feel that the start of the trailer is;
Marika taking strands of hair outside of either; pregnant belly of gloam eyed queen OR the eye of Godwyn after the betrayal of letting Ranni orchestrate the blades to kill him

When they say he gave up his flesh, flesh can also mean like, family and/or children, so it may not be his physical flesh but his kin that he gave up.
I would like to think that the tree in the land of shadow is another tree, seprate from the erdtree. But it's smaller, and Messmer uses it as a guinee pig for his flames in attemt to burn the towering golden erdtree from how damaged it looks.

It should be noted that it is only the demigods and the ancient creatures in the Lands Between that speak old English. All the NPCs speak, while deliberate and cryptic in their own way, relatively modern English, which is very much intentional I think.

I think that Mesmer has a lot to do with the Formless Mother. He appears to wield a type of bloodflame, and as Sean pointed out, his spear looks a lot like Mohg’s. He also says the word “Mother” which could either refer to Marika or the Formless Mother
I wonder if Miquella tried to resurrect the Erdtree using shreds of Marika's grace taken from her corpse, and in so doing created the shadow that Messmer commands, the guilt of which caused Miquella to abandon his power, perhaps in an effort to contain Messmer. Alternatively, "abandon... his golden flesh, his blinding strength" could mean Miquella gave up his physical form, the body left in the egg, to allow his spirit to wander freely?

During Messmer's segment, the person impaled with several spears on the stairs is probably the old man from the reveal trailer, which means the woman-like figure you see burning afterwards is also likely the one in the painting from said trailer.

Mesmer might be her first child since she hasn't even met Godfrey yet and to keep her plot under wraps she left him behind under the guise of a guardian.

So this trailer is like a prequel to everything and setting up the story for the DLC. I feel like Messmer might be the original holder of the Death rune. His red flames coming out of his hand reminded me a lot of when the death rune was awakend. The snake imagery makes me think that there is a connection between messmer and volcano manor/Ryykard. Like maybe he was slumbering inside Ryykard slowly regenerating himself through all the devoured bodies. It would also make sense why Ryykard was so obsessed with "devouring the gods" because Messmer was in his head pushing him down that path. Also maybe he was the progenitor to the snake people? Either way it seems like Messmar was an ancient enemy from before Marikas ascension into godhood and now that we've undone the current order by the end of the main story Messmer has somehow made his way back to the lands between to take back what was his.
those "sites" are clearly the new graces, it was said that we don't follow the grace anymore, and we follow in miquella's steps , so grace + miquella = miquella's site of "grace"
also at the end kf the trailer while the npcs and the tarnished look at that grace while scraping the ground, the narrator says about choosing to follow, "follow" being the key word

I think Messmer could be Miquella. Messmer has red hair.. It's like Radagon being Marika. Plus, M names, yeah? This whole trailer tells of Miquella being fed up with the shenanigans and leaves. I don't have much else to base this on, but I think that's what it is. Or Miquella had a child.. with Melina??? and Messmer is that child lol. That also makes sense from all the fire in this and Melina burning the tree. Leaves St. Trina.. becomes Messmer.
I doubt it honestly. Miquella is the only one of Radagon's children to _not_ have red hair. But if you know the theory about the butterflies in the game. Nascent - Miquella, aeonian - Malenia, and no one could figure out what the smoldering butterfly is supposed to be but its probably Messmer. Hes gotta be Malenia and Miquella's long lost brother. Def got kicked out of the Lands Between at some point. Hes obviously a bad dude so I think Miquella's trying to put him down for good
@waterbottles393 everything you said can still support Miquella being Messmer. Beyond that, we see Messmer but not Miquella.. but we do see, assuming, St. Trina dead/lifeless while also being told Miquella left his fate and his flesh.

They also show someone who looks like Rennala.. which is the person we go to to be "born anew" and cradles an egg Radagon gave her.. Miquellas body is in an egg on top of a pelvis. Radagon being Marika shows that when things happen/change.. they are able to become something else. Radagon has red hair.. Marika has blond. Miquella has blond hair.. Messmer has red.
Also, it seems that when the family goes to battle, their hair goes red. We fight Radagon, not Marika. We fight Malenia. Miquella is nowhere to be seen, apart from St. Trina shots, but we do fight Messmer. Everyone we fight in that family has red hair.
I'm not banking on me being right lol. I just don't think it's too farfetched of an idea. Hell, even the butterflies can be explained because either way St. Trina/Miquella existed and so do the butterflies.. but now Messmer also exists and now the butterflies do too.
Aaaaand at the start, "Miquella the Kind" and then later on "Miquella kindly.." He's mentioned as kind twice in this trailer.. why mention him being kind twice? And Malenia becoming the blade of Miquella. And wasn't sleep surrounded by tales of a "fair haired golden child?" So Miquella has always been labeled as kind of a.. whimp.

@@mcsquizzieee Marika's hair changed color because her and Radagon are the same person, but other than that, it's just an aspect that runs in the family ig. Miquella and Messmer just seem too opposed to really be the same, neither of them seems to approve of the Erdtree order but Miquella wanted a perfected, gentler kind of gold free of any of the outer gods, whereas Messmer is more into sticking people on spikes and lighting things on fire. Maybe Messmer started worshipping the great serpent.
Miquella probably detached his soul from his body Ranni-style, so maybe we will see him or maybe not. He is a wimp but out of necessity, not much fighting he can do if he's eternally cursed to never grow up. I think he's just the kind of person that has to work through subtle influence instead of taking the fight to someone else himself. He'd probably be pitting people against one another, but he does it for what is ultimately a good purpose.
Overall I really doubt hes a bad guy. If he uses some underhanded tactics he does so out of necessity; in a world where everything is out to get you, sometimes you have to play that way. Compare that to people like Rykard who wants to eat the earth as an immortal snake man, Godrick who chops people up and sticks limbs onto himself for fun, and Mohg aka Satan with added bleed damage, and Miquella's practically a saint
But Messmer was apparently around since the birth of the erdtree while Miquella should be Born much later
I think Melina is Miquella and St. Trina's child. Melina uses sleep to our character when she transports us to Farum Azula. But idk what Miyazaki has in his pocket so we all could be wrong 😂
All i do know is that messmer is possibly queen Marika's son, i hope that we get to play more in the dlc to explore and explain more of the stuffs!!
My theory for the dlc is that miquella is going to have a griffith moment with the followers and deceptive hints we are getting about them.

All the gold flecks that usually falls from the erdtree in the land between are now floating into the air in this land of shadow. That’s cool; it gives upside down vibes.
I think that the symbolism of the female reproductive system is going to have something to do with the fact that Queen Marika was impaled and could not have kids. I think that its mesmer that did it for multiple reasons.
1. Mesmer is known as the Impaler and uses a spear, a weapon fitting for stabbing. This aligns with the image of a spear piercing Marika’s side in the cutscene leading into the boss fight with Radagon, where the spear has the black and red hues associated with Destined Death.
2. the spear that stabs Marika has the black and red colors tied to Destined Death. Mesmer is characterized by these colors, suggesting he might be connected to the use of this spear and the power of Destined Death, which is significant in the lore for its ability to truly kill demigods.
3. Mesmer's association with symbols of blasphemy, such as snakes and fire, suggests he stands against the Erdtree's sanctity. This rebellious stance could extend to an act as extreme as stabbing Marika, further cementing his role as a traitor.

The reasons I think Marika is connected to the female reproductive imagery is
1. The spear is seen piercing Marika's side, specifically where her womb would be. The spear is associated with Destined Death, a force capable of true death in the game’s lore. By using a weapon imbued with Destined Death to stab Marika in her womb, the attacker would be aiming to disrupt the cycle of demigod birth and death, preventing her from bringing forth more powerful beings who could challenge or influence the world.

In my opinion, the second half of the trailer is the most upbeat i have ever seen from the trailer of fromsoft games.
I do think that the Broken Tree is the Erd Tree in the "Shadow lands". I think the whole game is to be set in an alternate dimension of the Lands Between. That's why she was saying a war "unseen" was happening coz nobody in the Lands Between knows about the Shadow Lands, except perhaps some demigods like Miquella, Marika etc.
It’s interesting to notice that Miquella’s theme is more hopeful than it would ever be compared to other souls’ theme. I believe the only one that would give me the same vibe is Gwynevere’s and yet it was just an illusion. Is Miquella really the kind Empyrean? Or is he just a facade, being the most feared Empyrean of the Lands Between? In any ways, I’m so hyped for the game to come out!

Could the place at the start be the crucible? we know that before the golden order crucible was the join of all life so maybe like marika meddling with the crucible was what made the war happen and mesmer is like the first son of marika as result of interference with golden order but due to her(marika) winning the war the land was tainted by the shadow of the work done by marika and miquella like wants to go to this crucible thing; also the snake thing can symbolize why the ulcerated tree spirits exist kind of like crucible + snakes evolved into those tree spirits. Also i think mesmer's imagery of imapling in the war scene is also like vlad (the impaler) dracula and how he use to tyrannically invade kingdoms

Since the smouldering butterfly now fits him way more than Melina since he actually uses flame unlike Melina who just burned herself once. Plus the naming scheme also works. So he might be the third sibling in the trio and not Melina

Feel like the opening could be depicting Marika creating the Elden Ring and establishing the greater will in place of "The Crucible" and that gave rise to the Lands Between we know along with The Land of Shadow as a byproduct cast aside from grace and consumed by war and turmoil

Miquella had a special relationship w godwyn so presumably he went to the shadow lands to try to bring him back. He would have had to divest himself of his grace and abandon his place as an imperian aka giving up his fate. The shadow of the erd tree is its own thing and was created at the same time as the erd tree. You can also see marika's rune in gold in the shadow tree. So the working theory is that marika is taking life from the unseen lands to power the erd tree
