    If you're doing ok in the west, own your own home that sort of thing, there is still the advantage of being able to afford to retire early in the Philippines.

    I started listening to you 3 years ago. I had a good life, nice beach house, nice sports car. But like every man who is 62 I was invisible in Florida. I could not retire there, even though my house and car was paid for. It's not the money I have here that makes me rich, it's the friends I have made that are native to Anda that makes me rich. I am glad Mark I caught your channel because I'll be damned if I didn't spill water on my laptop the first week I was here. But I listened to you and had an extra one. Praise the LORD.

    Hey Mark, I’m interested in retiring earlier with 401k. I think I could do it a lot earlier in Philippines. Then do social security at 62. I can’t be the only one thinking about it.
    I got the wife and kids already but I couldn’t see retiring here in ten years. Probably gonna have to work until I’m dead.
    You’re showing a shortcut to light at the end of the tunnel.

    American living in US is like a Filipino living in the Philippines, same struggle. Big difference is when you take your income from US to any country where your money get's 50X or more in value, that for sure is an advantage... Reason why Philippine economy was not really affected during the recession unlike many countries all over the world few years ago is due to the Filipino workers abroad $$$ remittances, it kept the economy stable... If I'm an American struggling in US with $1,000- $1,500 a month I'd be off for sure, why stay in a place where your monthly income is almost close to no value? Good topic. God Bless...........

    Hey Mark I am not necessarily in my 50s or even mid 40s im a mid 30s man, but everything you talk about checks off with me, dating or even trying to live a decent single life to ones self is not the same in the USA anymore and i dont see the point of killing myself anymore with whats left of my life and the days we're living in which already are not guaranteed to us with how things are, stress namely. Youve given me the courage to make a plan to leave and God willing i will be seeing the Phillipines for myself this year and making things work somewhere i am more at peace and at the very least a lot more beautiful. Sometimes a change of pace really makes a big big difference. Thank you. And best wishes.

    This September I turn 55 and will begin drawing a State Police Pension here in Charleston, SC. I will have access to $3500.00 a month until 65, at which point I have calculated a monthly increase to $3900.00 per month out to 100 years of age. I am single, tall and blue eyed with light white skin. This is fitting, because I am a ghost, a ghost that they can't see, just like you mentioned, man it really gets kinda lonesome in this big old house of mine, at times. PI sound's more and more like a very viable option to change my trajectory towards greater happiness. Thanks for sharing your insight.

    It's all relative. If your path to happiness relies on people then that's what you chase. For me it does not. Give me an open road with no dogs,drunks,other drivers who think they always have the right of way and I'm off to more adventures on one of my 4 Harley's: not on crowded roads at 25mph either.200 mile rides at 75mph is where I feel alive. Or, let me leave my house and go to my Little building to work on projects or harvest in my garden there. Then there is my farm: get on one of 7 tractors there, or my dozer or backhoe and work on the land. I planned for my retirement and planned well. Money isn't a problem and I won't start collecting SSI until I hit 72 (to maximize spouse benefits for my wife).

    Stop feeding people fake dreams, you can't be rich on $1500 or $2000 in the Philippines. Sure you can live comfortably, maybe stress free for the most part, but you aren't rich on that much money. When I first visited the Philippines before inflation went crazy in the USA, I could live cheaper in the USA with western standards than I could in the Philippines if I wanted the same western standards, and that was still giving up many things like downsizing from a 4 bedroom home to a 2 bedroom condo with much smaller rooms. I still maintain my house in the USA which I own as well as rent in the Philippines because I can afford both because I am not on a $1500 budget. Most people won't be able to find a beach house in the Philippines that they can afford, nor one with western standards. Most beaches that I have seen have a bunch of squatters living next too them, not homes that I would want to live in. Where I live to rent a half way decent furnished home or apartment is 35,000 php and it's not on the beach. So $600 for rent, and then 5,500 php for electricity so another $100 at a min. Then add in water and internet and half of your $1500 budget is gone. So that gives you about $25 a day to live on, not exactly rich. But to a Filipino only earning $10 a day, maybe they would think that is rich, it is not.

    • @DustyRhodesjr
      @DustyRhodesjr 22 дня назад +1

      That is the truth. I have lived here 18 years. Life on $1500 a month would be close to the bone. If your lady turns out less than thrifty, you are in trouble. Few doctors make as little as suggested, just those in the far provinces. A top of the line doctor who deals with your cancer (heaven forbit) is a specialist trained abroad and prescribes treatments that will kill your wallet. No sir, no $1500 am month and live like king. You will live a very modest life style. Come to the Philippines for a long stretch, check out many areas, certainly beyond Dumaguete, and determine if it is for you. That said, the Philippines is a lovely place to live. For some.
