- What $500 a Month in Philippines Gets You | HOUSE HUNT 🇵🇭
The Philippines is a relatively affordable country in comparison to the US. In this video, I search Bohol, Philippines for the best quality rooms for the most affordable price. The Philippines is known for beautiful Filipino islands like the one you see here in Bohol, Philippines. Thank you for watching!

Please be aware that lower floor units are much cooler than those on the top floor. Attic insulation is virtually nonexistent in the Philippines.
Ooooo great tip! Thanks!
Attic insulation non-existent in PH? Don't generalize. Check the cities.
@@LarryfromPH Was he looking at condos in Makati? No, I think that he's looking on Bohol.
Totally right! I'm living in a top floor unit in the 1st residence appearing in the video and didn't expect it to be that hot. Some friends are staying in a low floor unit here and the difference is huge. But on the other side the top floor units are much brighter
Nipa roof. Its an insulation and roof in one
the $250 unit at 8:00 is a dream!!!! I live with very little 'things', minimalist as-you-will; and that private front porch balcony with the table is perfect!
Paradise for less and no snow
What a package. Good luck with the search.
oh yeahhh! I love warm weather!
You gona need sunscreen, thought my brown ass was good but nope😂
Very informative, and 14K is a bargain. Agreed... never disclose where you live.
More explore every Region Jonathan we Filipino's love your content and u know how to interact to the locals .God Bless and stay safe always❤️🇵🇭.
I can’t complain ,I pay $160 usd for 5 bedroom two story plus roof top balcony overlooking paddy fields. Two minutes walk to beach, you can swim there, but it sand bottom with rough rocks on bottom,I wear sandals when I in water
Get a box fan to sleep with. It will muffle the sounds of roosters and dogs. Great video!!!
Glad to see the signs are not yet in Mandarin
haha. touché. I second that.
Given how the Chinese are dealing with the Filipinos these days..Don`t think u will see Mandarin anywhere for a very long time.
Because of China’s intolerable behavior towards Filipinos and the abuse of Filipino fishermen at sea bynChinese warships, I don’t think the Philippines wants anything to do with Chinese and their rude behavior towards them. Good!
@@wesgraham2262 It goes way far beyond a matter of rudeness or opprobrium. This is an insidious type of imperialism and the only language they understand is force. I'm not a war monger but I don't see how this ends short of war with these people as China won't clean their own house.
For years I dreamed of visiting China. One brief visit made me decide to never again visit. Why go somewhere to be despised.
i am new in your channel ..
and it seems u love Phil..
The more u love Phil. the more filipino would love and support u ..Godbless❤
Definitely get what you pay for in this video. I see why the price difference. Amenities and larger size versus no amenity and smaller size. Great vid!
Thank you for the informative pricing and details on renting apartments
3rd is the most practical and best for a single person. 👍👍
WOW, Thanks for this Awesome Tour!
Its ok if you ride a Scooter or Motorbike living in these places, if you dont you're relying on Public Transport thats if its even available, and if its not your screwed. 👍
Ive been in phils for 17 years your looking at to expensive i have lived in houses on beach for 5000 to 7000 month ive live in mansion with pool waterfall. 5 bedroom beachfront and other for 7000 to 12000 in cebu and leyte keep looking
Hi Jonathan, im John. Born and raised in the Philippines but living in Toronto Canada. I must say your videoe have been very fun and entertaining to watch! Ive been binge watching them since ive stumbled upon your channel! Love your raw and genuine interactions with the local as well as your adventures of the places in the Philippines! Enjoy your stay! Went back home last May 2022. Definitely recommend El nido CoroN Oslob and Moalboal! Cheers🙂
Why would you move back to toronto
Yes Toronto yikes
Yet you went out of your way to LEAVE, now here comes the excuses.
Look at all the Toronto haters. Probably 'small town syndrome'. lol Darrel didn't say anything negative about Toronto. And he probably immigrated there; he didn't "move back". Enjoy the advantages of Toronto, Darrel!
apartment in Toronto is now $2500 CAD per month + electric + internet, food very expensive, plus 4 million people and heavy traffic daily
6:45 having that lap pool on my doorstep would be like winning the lottery of life.
I'd choose the first one from what you showed but the
day/week/month place might be a good short term option to continuing to search for the ideal longer term home base.
Just a reminder that prices can be haggled down. Just give them a hint that you have other options and they might agree to your desired price.
Hi, how to find these houses? website?
@@aminouled A lot of houses are not advertised online. So you have to be in the area. You can ask the locals if they know houses for rent.
@@wavemaker2077 thank you for your answer 🙏
Johnathan I don't think I have ever seen an area in the Philippines that quiet. I really do appreciate your videos.
The first one looks really nice! 😱👍
7:48 The P14K ($257 USD) also looks amazing & affordable for a single person.
Yeah it’s fairly new!
@@travelescapesOFFICIAL Could you tell me where is it?
@@yurakgnIf ever I live there since there’s no grocery store or market in the area it will be very difficult and disappointing to live your daily lives. I’d rather live in the city proper though a bit expensive because all the convenience are within your reach. $600/monthly is very cheap. I can’t even rent a closet here in San Francisco with that amount, really funny. Jonathan I just wonder what State you’re from? Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, where?
@@maelestepa9252 I have a house in a remote area of Bohol, but it is only a 15 minute scooter ride to Sagbayan market. I just keep a shopping list and get what I need. Once per month I go to Tagbilaran or Tubigon to larger stores if needed.
@@maelestepa9252, I travel to city once or twice a week, 40 minutes away and buy in bulk.
Also the money you save, you can hire house help to take transport and shop for you.
But everywhere there are stores to buy things or start your own store and make money.
Iam paying $250.00 for 1 bedroom, kitchen, yard, and parlor.
The city is like $400 to $600.00
Nice. Good tip about lower floors. I'd be eating out most of the time
Hi Jonathan! Thanks for making a video on apartment prices! All your info is very helpful. When you rent the bikes, do they rent the helmet as well or do you have your own?
Always love watching your vlogs. I like that you are so transparent and try to be real with your contents.
I am curious as to which one you chose? The first one is good but also the last one is practical esp with everything included in the monthly
Enjoyed the tour. Thanks
Thank you Jonathan, that was and relaxing views and some and some relaxing prices. You did a great discovery.
You’re cool. Thanks for liking the 🇵🇭
Hi. I'm a new subscriber. I just saw your RUclips channel to a certain app. Well no need for me to mention but actually the lowest rental fee apartment is nice and simple. I personally love a house with a balcony. Thank you for lovin our country
Excellent video! Thank you. I am planning to spend a month in the Philippines late 2024, and perhaps create a plan to stay longer on a second trip.
Great video dude. Loved it
Thank you!
A lot of useful tips. 보홀을 예전에 가봤는데 참 아름다웠습니다.
I agree the 14K unit looked nice to me also
*bohol diving exhibit*
there's a diving exhibit in alona kew today
it's one of the largest exhibits that attracts divers nationwide & even the world
You will feel it when it feels like "home" the moment you enter the house.😊
28k is what I am paying for a primo condo with pool and gym in central Manila. No way you should be paying 28k for panglao.
Good to know. I agree, I thought it would be cheaper than this around here
@@travelescapesOFFICIAL Well it is. Seems like you are looking at hotels and their monthly deals. No local would live there. Try apartments that are 6 month deals. Even the places that are only available on a 1 yr deal usually can be negotiated to be 6 months instead of 1 year.
The 6 month deals might be open to be negotiated on a 1 month rolling.
There are several places in Metro Manila where it's peaceful and quiet as well. Cheap food too. Panglao is a total rip off. The greed of the foreigners and their bisaya partners ruled that island. I feel bad for the native Panglaonons.
@@angryfrogger good job blaming foreigners and bisayan people, piss off , fake account
I gotta figure out a way to make money online so I can travel
Good information .. Many Thanks
Thanks jonathan for sharing hotel prices everybody needs those prices so people can prepare going to places here in php.stay safe always.👍✌🙏😍🇵🇭
This was informative. Thanks for sharing all the price range. Yup never reveal the place that you currently staying in... Thats for your personal safety..👍
the rent is not aligned with minimum wage of a regular local it only caters to foreigners…just too much it’s not worth paying that much money even from someone who comes from the states like I do.
Thanks for sharing a nice impormision
This is awesome 🎉 thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Appreciate your research, thank you.
That's a pretty place.
You showed us
Thank you mate! I will check it out 👍
Good video buddy.
Thank you
Ingat sa intense heat .... this weather is crazy..... jonathan !
Too hot and humid in the Philippines!
Im really happy Sir to watching your vlog especially in Panglao Bohol very interesting i always look everyday your vlog and thank you for sharing . Watching from Old City in Germany.
Hope ypu'll continue toenjoy your stsy in the Philippines
Doljo is nice - over looking the ocean :) but yeah, everything gets booked out fast
Hi Sir i wish you also make vlog in Anda. Area. There's also many nice View and very nice Resorts .interesting Cave too.
I have lived in the Philippines over 5 years in Negros Oriental and ive always paid 20k per month for a two bed fully furnished to include tv, free wifi, cable tv, cctv and security guard. The apartment i live at now the water and electric is included in the rent and i pay 23k and the other places i rented it did NOT include electricity and water. Also i didn't have to pay two months security deposit amd first month rent and the other places i rented did.
Good point about electricity. In the Philippines it is expensive, usually second only to Singapore in SE Asia. Depreciating peso = higher fuel costs. and this is passed on to consumers. Higher rates also affect others like telcos and ISPs that have to keep equipment cool.
That’s interesting project mate- goodluck 🙏
Thank you it was very helpful.
great video. have you thought about more in the rural areas. I'm not a city person and would really like to be closer to the families out there. hoping in a year or two.
Great options
Consider some 800-1000 places if possible
Thank you for posting this video. I found it very informative.
I’m glad it was helpful!
Bro hoping you can do a collab with The Philippines Life couple Mike and Bianca. That would be awesome to watch!
Wow, so interesting. How’s the safety there ?
Thanks, great vid
Thanks for sharing, Jonathan. How are you filming the audio on the bike? It sounds great but no background noise :D
Hello buddy
I’m the first comment SICK ❕
Anyways I love your channel bro great content. And your on the same page as me a bit away from the cities but right on a beach 🏝
Where are you from in the states 🇺🇸
I’m from the northeast
Keep the videos coming dude there a huge help bro ✌🏼I can’t wait to make it over there🇵🇭
I’m glad they’re helpful; thank you for watching! I’m from Alabama
@@travelescapesOFFICIAL o alright Alabama
Bit of a change for you bro we’ll I guess any of us coming from the states actually
I can’t wait to reach the Philipines should be quit the adventure
Keep up the good work 👍🏼✌🏼
The first one seems to be American style. You can tell the room door and design square and white only. Plain and simple. Nice tour 😊
Yeah I like the simplicity also. Thanks for watching!
I just stumbled onto your channel and have been enjoying the info you are providing about the Philippines. I am wondering why we're not seeing any people out at these beautiful pools? Is it not the best time for tourists? You mentioned that some of the places are fully booked up so it surprises me that we didn't see anyone out at those beautiful pools.
Tourists want to be by the beach... not 10 minutes away.
Too hot and Philippinos don’t like to get a tan the whiter you are the better
What is public transit like there? Or do you need a license to drive those scooter bikes? I'm considering moving there. But it would be for about 6 months. So more of a long vacation.
Also, what are some nicer beachy areas to look into? I'd love to find something right on the water. When I lived in fla, I had a beach house and waking up to the ocean every day was amazing
Nice video. Very informative. For the monthly ones, how many months minimum?
Always taking care Jonathan.
Nice, thank you for sharing. We are a new subscriber.

Thank you for saying that and for watching!!
Hi travel escape , thank you for this information filipina watching from France god bless you
How’s France doing…hope yall ok
I love phillipines its tropical ,never been there but i know its warm and nice
I think Southeast Asia is very similar to Latin America. Both have big cities and beautiful beaches. Do you prefer Latin America or Southeast Asia?
Just subscribed to your channel, great content. Sunshine Village would be my choice.. quiet , beautiful .
Thanks for the information. Philippines is like everywhere else. The prices keep going up lol.
For foreigners only lol
In 2016 and 2017 I rented a place in Panglao for 12k php. It was a small bungalow with a shared pool. Very similar to the 14k you showed here. So good to see Alona Beach. McDonald’s used to be a great bar called Helmut’s.
Excellent video. 🎉 For private, incognito, quiet and business trip holiday.🎉 Yeah, for $1500 start and then $500 roughly/month. It's OK, fair prices. I liked the lady asking for cash for deposits etc😂
great information i see things are still not as safe yet as one might be led to believe ,, PI has always been sketchy
Looks so nice man. So i could find a temporary rental like one of those with weekly/ monthly charge? Thinking of the best way to stay in something nice, safe, and much cheaper and quieter than a hotel when I come visit my girlfriend.
Also a great value considering they are furnished
Bohol was an amazing time when I went there. Bohol Bee Honey Ice Cream is the world's best.
In real estate the motto is "location, location, location" per HGTV here in States. For me, location, price, people in PI👍
Thanks for the video. In general I found Alona Beach/Panglao very expensive, almost western prices. Also way too many tourists for my liking. It was a great spot to visit, I would never settle down there. I am back and exploring in May and June, I will pick my spot for retirement in October. Cam
Better try Dumaguete cheap rents good people
14 a studio in small city , high . rent 15 k in manila a condo 1 bedroom in very tall building .
cebu rent a condo same set up for 10k .
500 per month = western prices??? Lol maybe 40 years ago.
@@dougdavis8986not necessarily. In my town in France, studios start at €380 a month, €500 will get you a decent 1 bedroom. No pool, but public swimming pool, lakes and a river are close by.
this is cool, i love it 🥰
Thanks for watching!
Panglao near Alona area or Davao (Cateel by the beach) will be my places of choice for my final retirement.
When I am obligation free, I'm hitting a world travel. Thanks to this vid I must add this beautiful country to my list!
Lets go bro!
Thank you.
Thank you for shedding so much light for taking your time and explaining everything an expat possibly is looking for.i myself am an old man.how about hospitals, doctors or markets are away from those apartment.especially for someone he does not drive.are they available with short distance away?and about taxis are those also available.i appreciate if someone drop an answer for those questions.thanks guys.lord bless.
Good info 😊 thanks
I love the Mangrove Apartelle!!
For around 100 months rent I bought a detached country house in Japan with it's own mountain water supply.
The first property, 475 USD for that area is very very expensive. Phillipines in general is getting more and more expensive every day.
Gee I wonder why. Could it be because of people bragging and videos like these
@@user-mu8ty7vc3y not even close, reality is out there my friend.
BOHOL is really a very touristy area where you are. Many Koreans go to the alona beach most the shops there are catering for them
I've decided to just move to Palawan. I'll be going back there on the 16th
11:38 that sound still haunts me.. waking up in the middle of the night with a tuko right above my head 😅
Nice over view. Love your channel.
I have found gold in Puerto Galera even shocking many locals. 7,000 a month and 200 yards from a beach and sunset. 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, fans, ac in the bedroom big kitchen and living room. Search for a week while at an equaly amazing priced quality hotel. Easy breezy, it always is.
same here in pasacao , 10k 3 bedrooms , 2 bath , big kitchen, living room and second floor roof party floor at the beach and ocean . has a laundry room. one advised don,t look as a expat used a friend are gf to get the local prices that are way lower . lol
Great ! I was there a couple of months ago and have been visiting for quite some time now, Iam also on the lookout for something similar there! Any tips would be highly Appreciated
7k usa
I really like Pourto Galara as well as Palawan been both places 4 times planning to retire very soon 😊 been traveling to the Philippines for 14 yrs... as well as Thailand, Cambodia etc
7,000 pesos. $130
Great information 👌🏾
glad it was helpful!
Just get a roku or amazon stick and everything is a smart tv
I don’t even know about this 😂 I’ve used a TV about 7 times in the last 10 years 😂 I’ll look into this though! I have a non-smart tv in my room now, I never use it, but I definitely would use it if it were smart. Thank you for the tip!
Awesome video
Thank you
I love that area I lived at Sunshine Village for about 7 months into 2019 then Covid-19 hit the world didn't know what it was at that time, out of fear I jump on the first thing smoking back to the U.S.A. In 2023 I headed back to Thailand I lived there all of 2018 but I'm now back in the Philippines got me a high-rise condo in Makati Greenbelt area.
The one for 25k was the clear winner imo
I would take the 1st apartment/house and the 4th would be my 2nd choice.
13:00 you silly boy, if we want to find you, we can 😂 Nice video mate
