- After weeks of work Miss Rosie finally makes her first voyage as we sail her from Mylor Yacht Club in Falmouth to Newlyn around the stunning coast of Cornwall.
We are Andy, Melissa and Jack, a sailing family based in North Wales, looking for a bluewater sailing yacht to take us around the world.
We currently have a very small 24ft Snapdragon Sailing yacht based in Caernarfon but there are bigger boats on the horizon.

This what also super cool see you all enjoy a trip like should there time for work and time for relax love watching it so here we go
Nice to see and hear a bit about the Welsh coast.
Beautiful area to sail ☺️
Thanks for sharing. A lovely reminder of my trip from Falmouth to the Isles of Scilly a couple of years ago in my MacGregor 26M trailer sailer. We love Mylor Yacht Harbour, often have a walk there from Flushing and stop for a cuppa and a cake in the super cafe.
All the best for the rest of your trip!
Thanks! It’s a lovely run from Mylor to Newlyn isn’t it. Not sure if you’re subscribed but if not please do and you can follow the rest of the journey :)
Sailing Melody will do, looking forward to following
Awesome 😎
Im really happy to have found your channel. The weather here in Canada where I live is getting cold and Ive had to put my boat away for the winter and Im hoping that sharing your adventures will help pass the winter.
Fair winds, Beth
Thanks Beth! Glad to have you along on the journey with us. It’s pretty awful here now as well to be honest. This video was from back in July. Have you caught up with our new crazy project?
Nice trip captain seasick lol, to long bin on the hard hey !
Hahah. Yeah definitely. I always get a bit nauseous the first day or two of a trip.
Great job, love the reality. Nice to see Newlyn from a visitors view point, it’s home for us :)
We loved Newlyn really pretty. Not sure if you’ve seen the next episode but there’s even more of Newlyn in that episode xz
P.s. my mum still goes cruising in ireland on my brother's wooden yacht at 90 years old.
She loves it!
Love your videos, very genuine. Thanks for sharing your journey. I'm going through a similar journey, just got my forever boat.
Awesome what is it?
Have a great sail back, watch them blooming lobster pots going into padstow, nightmare. The doom bar is fine as long as you time the tide right(rising). I find the inner buoys at Lundy are best on the east side. Safe journey guys👍👍👍
I did that very journey (well, I anchored at St. Michael's Mount) back in June but had to motor sail most of the way. Coming around Lizard point there was the most humongous swell but the wavelength was about 500 metres so it was like sailing over a range of hills!
Beautiful job cleaning Miss Rosie up Andy. Thanks for publishing.
Well done! Boat looks so good now. How works a new tiller? is it convenient to use metal one?
We actually have a lovely Ash tiller which came with her but she already had the stainless one fitted. I was a bit sceptical at first and thought it would be cold to use hit honestly it works absolutely fine and is super comfy and obviously very strong. Of course it’s not as pretty as the wooden one but aside from that I can’t see a good reason to switch, whoever made it did a good job
@@SailingMelody it was my first impression looking at your tiller - it has to be cold in touch 🤔
Sail Ho it’s actually not. I was surprised too.
I actually kinda like it. But I might whip it with some leather or cord because that’ll be warmer and give better grip, and look cool 😎
Thanks for the video. Was there a forecast for more wind or you just wanted to be careful? Cause at 6:10 you say you had full genoa and one reef in the main with 11-12 knots of wind. I will put a reef when I sail in about 15-18 knots of wind and about half genoa in my GD28
Mike Santis a bit of both really.
The forecast was due to pick up and Miss Rosie has been ashore for 10 years at least and we were still getting used to her and she to us. I’ve never sailed a GD28 before this so still learning what she likes and doesn’t like. Thanks for the advice though! Always ready to learn from someone else who owns a GD28 :)
@@SailingMelody always clever and safer to be ahead of the weather.
No no, Mylor is Mylor, Falmouth is Falmouth, two completely different places.
Why didn't you put your sails up before you left?
Bigger boat, why? With a few mods like a rigid doghouse and proper seamen like windows your boat could easily take you around the world.
Yes you are right.
And the boat absolutely could take us round the world but soon to be a family of four we felt for us we needed more space to do it comfortably.
Nice one again, I've shared on Facebook, hope that's alright!
Wildlings Sailing yeah course :)
Wildlings Sailing hey Mark,
Couldn’t see an share on Facebook? Did you share it on wildlings or your personal profile?
Do u have at oil heater on rosie
Not on Miss Rosie no. She is not plugged into shore power.
When trying to photograph dolphins I find it best if I position the top of the camera under my chin and activate the shutter when I view the dolphins. If you try looking through the viewfinder you will miss things.
That’s a great idea.
I guess just putting the GoPro on the head strap would work too
@@SailingMelody Probably, have never used one, just photograph wildlife with a digital SLR.
@@ianwhyte4654 ahhh. Yes we use an xt30 mirrorless dslr now for photos and a lot of filming but generally not out in the cockpit on passage
Brilliant! Great to watch from shore. I think you are very brave and clever and talented! Paramedic, mechanic, musician, sailor and Dad / husband.
You remind me of my time at sea.
As a child I sailed on my mum's yacht out of Dale.
When I met my husband, Bob Burns, he was working as a sailing instructor for Falsail in falmouth .
I worked as the berthing mistress in falmouth yacht haven .
My husband, and I then sailed away on his yacht "Roamer" to south Africa.
- When I met him he had recently returned from sailing single handed round the world including Cape Horn , and was a rather wild character!
He lost his masts in the Falkland Islands , sailed back to falmouth taking 4 months, and arrived during the October '87 hurricane.
- He was 76 years old during his last passage which he didn't come back from.
He had lived on Roamer for 30 years and he always hoped he would stay at sea forever!
Thanks very much. You are super people and Jack is rather a star!
Liz ( lisa Burns).
Ps. You are such a happy family . It's a total pleasure watching your journey together, and hearing about Jack's ears and the pleasure they give him.
What an amazing story Elizabeth, we'd love to touch base and hear more. Would you mind emailing us at turner.andy@hotmail.com so we can get in touch and talk about your incredible experiences!
Looks like an interesting area to sail
Sailing Yacht Salty Lass yeah for sure. Absolutely stunning and to be honest Lizard Point was a non event after all the scary stuff we’d heard....
@@SailingMelody - like Strangford Narrows for us. It sounded like DeathRace 2000 in the pilotage, but if you used your wits and applied some common sense ..............
Sailing Yacht Salty Lass we just went out super wide and it was a little bit lumpy but nothing dramatic at all 🤷♂️
