      Thanks. I don't always practice what I say, as you might see in the next episode. However, in general it is well worth stopping a while where you can otherwise you might miss a gem. Or even the fantastic Newlyn Ice Cream!

    The city of Falmouth looks lovely - but my word, Google Maps shows an obscene number of boats on moorings!

      Falmouth has an astonishing number of boats - and the season hasn't even started properly yet. Quite a change from the places I have stopped so far. On the plus side, there seem to be about as many restaurants as boats - and the maritime museum is well worth a visit.

      Maybe on the return journey before I head off to the Med (whenever that might be). Spoiler alert - I kind of missed the English Riviera completely. More details in the next episode.

    I would love to buy a boat and do some coastal cruising some day. Had my eye on a Colvic Watson as a liveaboard but had to defer due to financial constraints.
    How long did it take you to lean all this stuff? I don't know my port side from my elbow.

      Colvic Watson is a lovely boat - and I know they come in a lot of different sizes; none cheap. I'm not sure how much I actually know. I did the RYA Competent Crew, Watch Leader and Day Skipper a while back. I first sailed about 30 years ago, but my sailing has been very sporadic since then. The plan was always to get a boat and do a big journey 'some day'. Then the penny dropped that I had to make 'some day' happen. I read a lot of stuff about sailing, and some RUclips channels are very educational - not this one obviously. At the end of the day, there is no substitute for getting out and actually doing it. So in reality my learning has only just started. Best advice; go small, go simple, go now.

      I had been putting on sunblock everyday. What I didn't know, and everyone else seems to know, is that sunblock doesn't last forever. Mine is about 8 years old. I have now invested in a new bottle. Whoops. We have had some lovely and very in-English weather recently.

    What tablet do you use for navionics and does it need a cellular or wifi connection to get a gps fix ? My iPad can't find a position the second it loses either of those.

      I bought a second hand Sony Xperia on Ebay. Supposedly it is waterproof for short periods of time up to a few feet - I wouldn't trust that. It has GPS built in so I don't need a cell or WiFi connection to get GPS. - It just seems to work; b magic. I do need a WiFi signal to get the weather forecast bit of Navionics, but I never use that anyway.
      I am very old school. I don't own a smart phone. I use the GPS function on my ancient Lowrance plotter. I still use pencil on paper charts. But I do like Navionics on the tablet... I could be a convert.

    Great video. Looks like you're also going to miss out on Fowey which is a particular favourite of mine. Still, you can always come back and do the journey again. Let me know if you make it to Chichester. I'll echo Roger's generous invitation of a decent coffee on board if you make it up to Northney.

      Thanks for the kind comment. It's difficult to call the plan in advance as it really depends on the weather. Poole had been on the plan - to meet up with relatives - but unfortunately I needed to change that. We have had these strange high pressure areas over the UK, with a couple of lows thrown in for good luck, which has meant either no-wind or wind-from-the-wrong-direction. As I type this the general forecast is wind form almost exactly East for the next week or so. That is the worst possible direction for me - and normally quite uncharacteristic. There will be another post soon as I am trying to catch up with 'real time'.

      Yes. we had a high pressure system stuck over us for ages this time last year. As well as 'no wind at all' on several occasions, there were also a lot of Easterlies once I got round the corner (Land's End). I think I broke down the mileage on the first video after the final journey one - and I seem to remember that there was more motoring than sailing. I also seem to remember that the weather forecasts were not very accurate - I think that is also something to do with the unreliability of high pressure systems.
      How is your engine testing going?

      Just about sailing . Yeah its good ... all lined up and plumbed in had a delay with illness and a couple of ops ... bit I've ended up doing the fuel tank and remote too ... I've no manicooler yet ... but I've had it running on the hose... engaging gears is very smooth .. and loads of power ...
