your signature "mmm" is my favourite part of this series
trademark? 😉
+Mark O'Donoughue no not at all
Austin BurchMMMMM
@@nickpapageorge9049 mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
I watch this for the mmm 😋
I love that during all that insanity his face looks bored and how he's chewing gum and almost blows a bubble at the end too. That just goes to show how relaxed and second nature this all is to him.
yea it is pretty crazy how centered he can stay during that...
My favourite thing about this series is that it makes me want to play drums more often.
that's a good thing!
+Austin Burcham hey Austin ! Great Video As always ! Can you recommend a "bang for the Buck " USB audio Interface ?
yep, more than any other video series.
How many Channels? Focusrite is always Great..
+Simone white well I'm not playing a fixed kit , so it could be extended at some point. 4 Toms 1 kick wont be changed tho . so i guess i need more than 8 .
5:50 didn't see that coming :D
Man this was totally awesome, even the 120 bpm version sounds amazing!
"That's what she said" I almost sit out my breakfast. Lol
*spit
+Dan Genzale haha sorry dude
ahahahhaah
Mind-blowing content. Austin is definitively in the top five RUclips channels dedicated to drum instruction.
+Miguel Arcángel Fraticelli :)
AGREED!
You should try transcripting what Matt Gartska, Blake Richardson do in their solos. Those guys are just beyond insanely good
Everybody notice that even with fast crossover singles all over the set, Dennis is rooted like an anchor in his seat. Chewing his gum nonchalantly. Always facing forward. He always had the best posture of any dude.
Q : do you know what a metronome is?
A : A little short guy from the big city.
God bless Y'all.
+Michael B. Porter hehe
a thought they hopped trains an were from Irish decent!?
The way you explain and transfer information is phenominal... truly a great teacher. Thank you.
Incredible. Like you said, very simple in theory, but like everything Dennis has ever played, the execution is flawless and the orchestration and speed are unreal. Can't wait to see the next Vinnie STG, but I would like to continue voting after that. After all, it got us this video.
Why does this channel not have more subs? Just discovere this channel...and wow...please keep posting...u inspire many drummers and truly educate drummers
Thanks, let's hope it keeps growing!
You had me at "That's what she said!" 🎶💕👊 Thanks for the lesson Bro!
Austin the quality of you vids is practically unmatched when it comes to instructional videos and groove/chop analysis
Noice! Props for tossing in the TWSS joke too!
This is the best drum series on youtube. Austin, you are killing it.
thanks man :-)
WIiiiiiiiiicked!!!!! this Dennis's lick is one of my favorites! so simple but yes the speed and the power dennis plays it makes it so insane!!! and cool! :) thanks for the lesson Austin!! really amazing content you're putting out!!
my favorite thing is the "that's what she said" line put into a Study The Greats episode!
great vid as always austin, i like your snare drum sound...any information on type and tuning would be appreciated
hahah "thats what she said"
cool lessons, keep posting
The thing that blows my mind is that approx 1:33 Dennis is blowing a small bubble with his gum. All whilst ripping one of the greatest drum licks known to the drumming community.
Dennis is a total monster and a huge part of the reason I got into drumming. In this particular era, young Dennis hit different. He was basically the champ.
I love your STG videos and think it would be cool to see an episode where you go over your favorite grooves. Maybe break down your thoughts on how it compliments the songs, backs a soloist, affects the feel and emotion, ect. Not to take away from all the chops you showcase which are amazing and super fun to watch and learn from. I think it's important to see the other side of drumming- which is being the musical foundation of a song. You're an incredible drummer and seem like a cool dude, so thanks for making these videos for our community.
for sure man, thanks for the suggestion!
Just in time! Was just looking for some crossover concepts.
Amazing work, Austin. Thank you so much for this!
Really happy I found your channel, I'm sure you have a list of drummers your working down, If he isn't on it yet, Calvin Rodgers is a master. Can't wait for that video, keep up the great work for the drumming community.
That kit sounds amazing!!!!! Great job
Thank You So Much for all the effort doing (Study The Greats). Thank you
i really appreciate the effort of transcribing this lick. Absolutely love it. When you are done with the Vinnie one, maybe you could do something completely different like something by Tyshawn Sorey or Joey Baron?!
Great work, like always! Your playing at the end is very tasteful 👌
Fantastic lessons, fantastic playing, thank you.
Impressive especially the last pattern which sounds really nice sped up
hey man, where did you study drums? I am really enjoying your videos, Cheers!
+Joko515 Musician's Insitute 👍🏼
thats the fastest lick ive ever seen! I feel like there is a lot more floor tom in your transcription but that might just be because the audio on your floor tom is so much better than the Dennis video. love all these STG!
+Matt Hernandez Yea I was having trouble seeing each individual hit with his hands when I slowed it down. I tried out a lot of stickings and orchestrations that I thought it could be but this one was the only one that really made sense. And yea, my floor tom is much more prominent in the audio than his is in that video...
Yea i agree, even at .25 speed here on RUclips was still difficult to see haha! Cant wait to see what Vinnie lick or groove you choose! Cheers!
you are definitely one of the good drummer on youtube to subscribe. Intersting stuff and really great playing skills. Good to explain things too. And the ''that what she said'' had me spilled my ice coffee all around me. !!!
Great as always Austin. And man your drums sound good. Keep up the great work.
Great instalment. Congrats on the vic firth hook up too. You're playing is actually improving each video (from an obviously high base!). :)
+ScienceSeance that's good to hear!
the instant you said "that's what she said" i subscribed
just got so lost in the deep rabbit role that is your vids xD thanks man, keep it up.
Wow !! What a groove at 6:00 !!! you should make a video about you're stuff too ! :)
I love your vídeos!! Thanks Austin :) I'm already waitting for the next one :)
Fantastic video, as ever!! Thanks Austin for sharing, your channel is at the TOP of my RUclips drumming list! Where can we see you playing in a band?
+Jack Caddy Thanks man. Right now I'm not in a band b/c I've just been focusing on building this channel and doing remote tracking sessions from my studio. I'm sure I'll eventually get back into a band situation so whenever I do that I'll let everyone know.
Hey Austin, this is s great video! Awesome variation too! Happy 4th bro.
David Curtis Drumming
You are a brilliant educator Austin! Good job!
don't be fooled by Austin and his ''we'll go ahead and try it and see what happens'' demeanor as he's about to demonstrate his STG lesson ... (he's a master class drummer who can play anything on a kit and i hope he makes a lot of money for it real soon!)
i'd really dig it, if you did an episode with a tight groove sometime in the future!
chops are fun but interesting grooves too ^^
your content is amazing bro you are gonna make it with this channel!
awesome lesson. Love your channel. Thanks for the hard work!!
quality video, not too many people talk about Dennis Chambers these days...
Thank you very much for all these videos, it will definitely help my studies!
May I suggest something: In your video descriptions, where you type ORIGINAL VIDEO, could also please type next to it a time stamp? e.g.:
ORIGINAL VIDEO (~4:06):
assuming the lick/fill starts somewhere around there.
This is information that you already know so it wouldn't take more than a couple of seconds but I think it would help someone that has not seen the particular video before and would have to search through it to find where the exact location is.
Once again thanks so much!
EDIT: Yes I know that you show the specific part, but If I download the audio/video of the original, I would like to have a time-stamp at the file's name to make everything faster!
yea that's a good suggestion... I'll try and start doing that from now on!
Great work Austin, thanks....
Wow! Great job Austin!
Austin I love your channel pls keep up the great work!!
Your videos are great!! Thank you for share it!! Excellent
Hey Austin, great as always! It's really beyond me, how Dennis can play this one so fast. Very difficult to figure out so great job on that too. Let me know if you need Vinnie... I always have some of his stuff flying around. :)
For sure dude! I'm thinking something from the Baked Potato though cuz those are like my favorite Vinnie vids.
I do have some of that. ;) I'll send you something to check out.
Great job on the Dave Weckl video! Very cool stuff!
phenomenal sounding drums and great playing. really nice. but my favourite part was still the mmmhh when dennis went from insanity to the tastiest fuckin groove
Awesome, and great sounding drums!
The sticking is easy. Getting the L to the crash, and getting back to the crossover was sweet! Your speed was GREAT, Dennis is just not human lol. Almost proves there's a god. Guy doesn't have the luxury to read...He has a hell of an ear, and INSANE speed. The Vinny will be cool. The Gadd stuff isn't terribly difficult (with charts) but he has that "feel". Still live Paccaro, Rich, and for a "rock" drummer, Bonham influenced them all. Maybe not the chops, speed etc, but his groove is FAT!
I was there that night. It was at the now defunct Mars Music Store. He was definitely in another zone that night.
that's awesome dude... yea definitely in the zone more than usual
thanks so much for breaking this down! u da man
I really like your explanations, very good!
Very very nice this study! Congrats!
Saw it! Great work as always..
Wonderful! The last variation reminds me of Alan DAwson's in Syncopation. Cheers!
Holy scheisse that was the best STG so far! I must learn this ASAP!
You are great!! so nice video man! i love your work!
Incredible stuff Austin🎉
awesome explanations Austin...thanks heaps
Very nice! Love the scream at 5:25 .
Suas videos aula são excelentes.
Estou aprendendo muito.
Man your drums sound great! Awesome lesson as well!
I wish I could add more likes, I cannot stop watching your videos!
I really wish there was a channel like this for bass
Dave Hammers look up Adam Neely. He’s great
Very good man! Keep up the good work!
There needs to be more Vinnie videos! Yesss
You are a fucking hero. I love these vids, even if I can't keep up.
Thanks again Austin! would love to see you do a lesson on the DC clinic where Matt Gartska asks about the Billy Cobham inspired high speed fusion groove...cheers man
+Robert Minton can you post a link to that?
Totally freakin' awesome.
This was a Great lesson Austin! By The way, I've seen Dennis play this lick while playing his double Bass drum. Have you ever seen that? If so.. Do yo know what hes playing with his feet? I can't understand exactly what he does! Thanks!!!
You are pretty good. I bet that humbleness is holding you back. I have the same problem. You must know you can to do. I test this on my recent heavy bag videos. Do i kick the heavy bag or or do i know the heavybag will fly when my leg diaplaces it. The heavybag wins when i merely try to kick it
My Drummer favourite
Congratulations 👏🏿👏🏿👊🎼🎶🎼
Excellent Lessons
GOD BLESS
FROM BRASIL
Awesome! Freaking awesome! Many thanks!
I agree with Peter Kim, but what's kool to me is that your presenting material from really good players & playing it as well as the studied player. jezzz, your kind of a bad-ass yourself!!! keep up the good work man
A lot of shows, and clinics, where I've seen Dennis play a few feet away (Mike Stern, Carlos Santana, etc) he throws in 32nd sextuplet doubles every 8th note on the bass drum. Or is that another lick??
Great lesson
love this channel
I like how the video is so straight forward and serious and then he pulls
A that’s what she said joke lol
I would love to see you break down the end bass drum work of the song Becoming by Pantera. I know metal really isn't your thing, but that foot work deserves some attention! Keep up the awesome vids!!!
Great work
Adapting your variation... A cool thing I've been doing is adding a flam to the first note!
Dennis plays this lick a lot at the end of tune's finale. So it can actually be used in a rock, Latin, or Fusion setting, Austin.
Yea I didn't say it couldn't work in different genres. I was just saying that it's mainly for contexts where it's like drummer go time, which would be like you said, ending finales and stuff...
Did you bring the moon gel further in on your snare in this one? Were you going for a more muffled tone? Great video and lick here. Thanks for this!
+tdrum21 Yea it's a little further in. I think I did that for a tracking session recently and just left it there. Just takes away a little bit more of the overtones and sustain but I dig it.
Awesome lesson I love it when she says that lol
Nice work man!
Dope lesson! More Vinnie please!!!!
Holy cow! Dude. Awesome!
You are amazing bro!!!
Thanks for la data, from argentina.
Super Cool, thanks!
dennis chambers is so awesome he rips it up with greg howe and victor wooten
very good job ! Austin !
friendships !
