Excellent way to present the lesson. Breaking it down in to phrases and learning the "motions"! The motions of the sticks, hands arms make the sound. All about the motions!
It took me a moment to realize I've been playing this pattern for years, except that I alternate the phrase from between left and right. Vinnie makes everything better! Thanks for the video!
This beat sounds cool when playing every quarter note with the hihat and then playing the lick over and over as a polyrhythm. That would sound cool in a solo
Just watched this one. It is so clearly presented, that even this old CBGB re-tread will master it, do his own thing, and turn it into a faithful ally. Excellent. Thank you.
I just watched the Rob Brown video where he talks about wanting to shoot this over to you because you are the transcription guy, and then it comes up on the algo, love it 🔥🔥🔥
Great work as always Austin! Another cool Colaiuta lick. Well executed, to the point, great transcription, amazing sounding drums and video. Excellent work and well spoken..A+ my friend!
I can see your clips are getting improved over and over, and it's very admirable that you are producing very much high quality video with nice contents. Thumps up Few months back, I purchased Audix microphone inspired by you by the way :P
Dude i've seen all your study the greats vids. You've always played great but you can definitely see your progress through them all. Nice playing man, you keep getting better and better! Missing the signature "nasty..." after the second clip though 😝
Great stuff. Anyway you can transcribe Vinnie's work in Sting's "Fill Her Up"(album: Brand New Day)? The drumming at the end of that song is incredible. Manu play on that album but I think it's Vinnie.
Really dig this.. Applicable and playable where my skills are at.. Love the punchy and syncopated stuff.. May not be able to play a lot of it but your content on this channel is awesome Austin ✌🏽️😎
Hey there Austin, I know you have covered a Mark Guliana lick in a prior video but I was curious to see if you have seen the video of him playing with Donny McCaslin on a tune called "Stadium Jazz". He plays this groove under the melody that is very syncopated and interesting. I'd love to see a break down of that since I haven't seen anyone on youtube really look at it. Killer video btw!
Austin, thanks for the fantastic break down. But can you tell me.... These notes are not flams but more like Malfs? It looks to me that the down beat is the right hand and the left hand flam is after the 1. Can you confirm this? Thanks Wez
I would be very grateful if you could detail sticking in a reply as I am partially sighted and the software are use cannot access your transcriptions you could do this I would be very grateful as I feel this is something I would like to add to my repertoire
It's very hard to see here if Vinny uses rL of lR on the first flam of the pattern (Probably because he caught us all off-guard by not wearing his signature glasses and having long hair). What I DO see is that it's actually not a real flam, because the volume of the "ghosted note" is very loud and the stick height is on the high side. It doesn't sound like "malfs", just two loud hit placements close together, "like" a flam. Knowing Vinny's reputation, this is probably on purpose... I say: practise both variants, low flam AND loud hit. Alternating the sticking patterns :-)
Austin, thanks for this one,,,However, what has prompted you to change the position of your drumset? It used to be more Bennysh, now is more Shannon Forrestish?
I'm always experimenting with my setup. I think I've learned that I prefer my cymbals a little higher and more angled towards me rather than low and flat... more old school fusion style. I'm about to revamp my setup again for 2018 though, so stay tuned for that!
The BEST part of all of your Study the Greats videos is the "MMMMM" when watching the original clip! haha. Thanks for doing these, they are awesome.
Great ! Awesome.
Excellent way to present the lesson. Breaking it down in to phrases and learning the "motions"! The motions of the sticks, hands arms make the sound. All about the motions!
I fucking love that triplet placement at the end!
Austin, please make a lesson about traditional grip
It took me a moment to realize I've been playing this pattern for years, except that I alternate the phrase from between left and right. Vinnie makes everything better! Thanks for the video!
Amazing break down of another Vinnie classic playing moment! Thanks!
That filthy lick sounds even better with your snare drum. Liked that so much I grabbed my headphones to hear it better.
I only watch these vinnie licks with a beer in my hand. Too lazy to try them.
This beat sounds cool when playing every quarter note with the hihat and then playing the lick over and over as a polyrhythm. That would sound cool in a solo
thank you for your work, awesome drumming break downs .
Just watched this one. It is so clearly presented, that even this old CBGB re-tread will master it, do his own thing, and turn it into a faithful ally. Excellent. Thank you.
I really like your fluid chops! Great job with this lesson!
I just like the way Vinnie's looking at his sheet music... Just like reading a newspaper out loud.
Thanks!

Awesome man!
Could you repeat that in matched grip please? J/K. Great playing and explaining sir.
Awesome upload!
Nice! Could you do a Simon Phillips episode? Thanks
Austin, thanks for the fantastic break down. But can you tell me.... These notes are not flams but more like Malfs? It looks to me that the down beat is the right hand and the left hand flam is after the 1. Can you confirm this? Thanks Wez

Thank you. Very good drumming dude! ;)
Hi Austin!! Thanks for giving us candy... this is badass stuff.....
i wish you did that at least few time with match grip ! but exellent as always
Brother. What exact ride cymbal are you using? It's Beautiful!
Man ure doing great stuff !
Hi, awesome lesson. Which software do you use to notate drum parts? Thanks
Those cymbals are getting higher ya freak 🌝
I think this is a Latin fill he uses, but can be used on other gigs? Nice work, Austin, thanks!
Dude, when are you gonna do an episode on Todd Sucherman (Study the Greats)? Lot of good material there. 👍🏻
Austin it kind of sounds like the Gergo lick u did !!!:)
Austin I love all of your STG videos but this was super fun to watch!
I would be very grateful if you could detail sticking in a reply as I am partially sighted and the software are use cannot access your transcriptions you could do this I would be very grateful as I feel this is something I would like to add to my repertoire
Welcome back
Austin, Isn't that left hand flam rebound stroke is just like the 3, 3+ in the Purdie Suffle?
very similar!

Matt Gartska next plz!
you can never have too much garstka...
I was aways hoping our Lord and savior would come back as a drummer! ( kidding ) Great video! Thanks!
Austin, thanks for this one,,,However, what has prompted you to change the position of your drumset? It used to be more Bennysh, now is more Shannon Forrestish?

What snare/head is that?
god i missed you
Love your variation!!! should sneak in some sixtuplets!!!
Watch your rhythmic solfege, all that "Klaatu Klaatu", you're going to end up summoning a deadite.
I don't know if you should be teaching me drums or the light side of the force.
sweeeet!
Like
4:55 Oooooooo
Even though it’s sixteenths it has a rounded triplet feel.
I can do the Lick I can't make a you Tube vid as good as this..
We both have that squeaky Pearl hi-hat pedal. Ugh.
You are slowly turning into Benny Greb back when he had long hair :D
You get right to the point. My man rob takes waaaaayy to long. Just saying
No need to hate. They're both great educators.
rob brown??? if so yes... but anyways he inspires me
Sure, but Rob is awesome--he's the drummer incarnation of Eddie Murphy, so let the man say what he sez. A natural born teacher, IMHO.
Austin looks like Benny,,,,
hahaha.. kind of
Didn't know Hector Salamanca could play the drums!
DO SOME NATE SMITH!!!
I do not see why you have to transcribe this lick. Really simple to those with rudimental backgrounds.
I don't think Lars Ulrich could play this
Vinnie is starting to look like Jimmy Page
