What an incredible week of progress over at the house! I haven't been able to walk on the floors or work on the main living room as the floors are being refinished! The first coat of stain went on and they are looking absolutely stunning. The custom sink that Omar also created out the marble I selected was installed this week and I'm still in awwweeeee...

The statement of the guy staining the floors when asked if he did it by hand “that’s the way” let’s me know he’s a master at what’s his doing and it’s not just any job for him but a craft. He is trustworthy and a man of ethics.
I was also impressed that he didn't have stain spilled all over himself. I would have! I think it's a sign he knows what he's doing. :D

The floors are gorgeous!! I've had 3 houses built now & I must say, I'm so jealous of your contractors. A lot of mine made me feel like I was working for them. They kept trying to direct me into doing things that were faster & easier for them instead of what I really wanted. Your gentlemen are true professionals. They actually hand stained your floors!! Don't see that too often anymore! Plz tell them we applaud their fantastic work! So excited for you

Right? My mom has redone her family room...no problem...her bathrooms and no problem again. But with her kitchen...my gosh...they tried to tell her what they wanted and she had to keep saying no, this is my house and this is what I want...one of the things was telling her to either not have a dishwasher anymore or a tiny one and she refused stating that she always had a regular size one and though she rarely uses it, she wants it for big family get togethers.
The floors turned out great...I don't know about those new lamps for the kitchen though...just seem strange to me for a kitchen...but I'll wait and trust the process. 💖

The workers you chose are just amazing! They do not do anything half-way or the lazy-way. To watch them stain the floor by hand was painful for me but how gorgeous are they. Rich tones and so beautifully done. You certainly chose amazing 'hardwood flooring specialists' - such hard workers and really dedicated to finishing the floors with love. Your makeover vlogs have been nothing short of fabulous.

It's a rare gift to find trustworthy tradespeople who'll listen to you. After multiple experiences with house renovations, I've developed an absolute phobia about hiring tradesmen. In my experience, they all big themselves up as the best ever (while denigrating the work done by previous plumbers, electricians or whatever) and then deliver an unimpressive standard of work. The worst aspect is their resistance against doing what you want, saying "It can't be done" (translation: that looks too hard, so I'm going to steer you towards the easiest option for me").

I wish he’d say that in his videos, “good job guys”. Drew just comments how good it looks and how he’s obsessed with the sink but doesn’t acknowledge the skill with which it was done, at least not in the video.

DREW!!! OMG the floors! When I was little back in the Stone Age, my mom would wax the floors by hand after we were all asleep.
When I was older I asked her why she just didn't use a sponge mop? She wouldn't be on her hands & knees and it would be fast.
She showed me the difference the next time she did the floor on a small patch. The STREAKS!!
I'm loving the entire process and since my mind jumps from one thing to another anyway, it's fun shopping in a different state one minute then drooling over THAT SINK the next

I think you have somehow managed to find the world's best contractors, true artists of their craft. I love these home vlogs Drew, the way that you document and share with us has made every tiny detail interesting and delightful.
Jumping around is how house restoration works. Flea hops from one thing to another. Sink makes me want to go on a water diet. Too wonderful for words. The floor color stained are just right.
Wow they did such a stunning job on the floors. Such fantastic workmanship and that sink and countertop... Holy moly. Stunning.
This is how home renovation actually happens, so it’s great! Life is always a little chaotic. This isn’t HGTV 40 minutes from disaster to finished. It’s the real journey!
The floors just have been a triumph! The stain has come up so rich as opposed to the matt, dark stain that was there previously. The basin is perfect in the space and makes the kitchen look more tied together. Can’t wait to see what you’ve picked for flooring

There's definitely something to be said for true craftsmenship. For furnishes and finishes done by hand as oppose to machine produced finishings, there's just simply no comparing the two, when they are done well. And this may sound rather strange but, when those floor specialists were applying the stain to the floors with their hands exibiting such care and respect for their craft...I'll tell ya, it was a bit of an emotional moment for me! And then to see the finished product which I found to be stunningly beautiful, it just gave me such appreciation for the workmanship and skill those gentlemen displayed!
(I also want to give my sincere condolences to the floor contractor gentleman who lost his brother. I'm very sorry for his loss.😔🙏🏽)
Love that response to the process. It's a combination to me of the old world knowledge and skills and the fact that it's a human touch. I would want the craftspeople to sign their work for me. What's that little mark on the floor in the corner and the one by the edge of that amazing tiling?😂🤣

I'm tearing up because the way they communicate with you reminds me of how my dad communicates with clients. Their english isn't perfect but they're determined and do honest work. And you seem so sweet to them, sometimes people are mean to them because of their broken english and I end up getting called up to translate. So thank you 🥲

,when choosing light's for the kitchen, you need to imagine, having to work and prepare and cook food, you need lot's of light, that doesn't create shadow's, for working in

My ex’s sister is an Interior Designer. When she bought her first home, she had marble put in the kitchen (as she had done for clients) and in living it, she was sorry. It stains so very easily, so it’s beautiful but be careful!
I never thought I would say something like that about a backsplash, but the one in the little kitchen nook gave me goosebumps! It’s crazy beautiful and so is the sink. Now I can die in peace because I’ve seen it all.

That 50/50 stain mix was brilliant, and it looks incredible. It brought out the grain of the wood in such a remarkable way, and the way the artisan did it all by hand did make a huge difference in the outcome! It’s amazing to see this project come alive under the skilled hands of these craftsman (and your impeccable vision!)

I love and agree with the concept the house could not have been anymore blessed than to have Drew as its new caretaker. When he says Wow we can just feel it with him. The world would benefit from this level of care in all things accomplished. Think of how all lives would change.
Wide flat blade jackhammer to remove thinset. You need to scrape it down to the white surface that I see underneath. I’m assuming there is wood flooring below.

it’s so cool seeing you shop cleveland stores i frequent! cle is so under hyped, but we have so many incredible gems for antiques and thrifting. Love the shoutout!!!❤
You can try using a drill with a course paint/rust stripping attachment (preferrably nonwoven disc) to take off the majority of the mastic. Then use a stiff brush attachment to get the loose bits. Finally vacuum up the dusk and make sure you have a clean surface before apply new mastic. Good luck...luckily it's not a big area like a kitchen floor!
There is just something about dark rich wood floors, i cannot get enough of. The house is looking gorge.

Yes, yes and YES! To the chairs and light fixtures you got. I love that gothic/Spanish look as well. I gasped when I saw the chairs were real Monterey chairs! What a treasure to have seen let alone own! I’m super jealous. That dark brown stain is so wonderful. 😍 If the old kitchen tiles are stone, you should make drink coasters out of them too. I live east of Cleveland on Lake Erie. I recognized the type of streets and trees and thought for a moment LA had a area like here! You definitely will find better prices on antiques here as opposed to the West Coast. I am enjoying your make over of your home.
I live in the Cleveland area and the same thing happened to me. I think he finally mentioned Cleveland when they were touring Bratenahl (?). I’m going to have to visit that antique shop. Funny that I found out about it by watching a vlogger in LA.
I will suggest that you have recessed lighting in the kitchen the 2 lights you found will not put out much light in that area ( 2 rooms you need lots of light are bathroom & kitchen) everything is looking so good so far .. the floors look awesome , love the dark stain..

I think you're absolutely insane to have a marble sink on your kitchen, but she's definitely gorgeous. My sink has straight edges and it's a nightmare to clean it.

I love the colour of the Weathered Oak on the lower level, but mixing the darker stains on the upper level was just genius, it works so well with the beams. The marble sink is a triumph and I can’t wait to see the finished splash backs, the lights you bought for the kitchen will work so beautifully with windows for the lounge. You make choosing the decor for an open plan living space look effortless, Bravo!

SUGGESTION on how to create a template for the content. Have one story - staining floors, or the shopping for antiques, or the installation of the countertops etc.. then have all your 'out takes' and any fun happy crazy clips at end . This is a very successful film edit technique that movie and tv audiences enjoy.
So proud of you, the kitchen is a dream, the floors are amazing, and the thought and care you put into the light fixtures is lovely. A job well done. You are very lucky with your contractors!! They work very quick. In my opinion, it starts to have many dark items... floor, doors, ceiling Kitchen furniture, ... But I'm in love with the marble countertop and OF COURSE it is your house, and I'm sure it will be very beautiful!!
