    Well done bro, fantastic video.
    I've never thought to under-volt a GPU to bring it into the reachability of the stock PSU. If it were me, I just would have immediately gone out and bought another PSU. So I learnt something today from this build, I didn't know you could do this! I also believe it's always good to use what's in the PC already like you have done. Part of my vision for my own life and channel is around finding usable purposes for old components because it's always the best thing for the environment (and the wallet) to use what you already have.
    I'm so glad to see other people on RUclips restoring older machines like this because honestly there are so many out there being tossed out by offices and workplaces. With just a GPU and a new SSD they can be turned into impressive little machines (as your benchmarks show). It's so much better for the planet that they end up in new hands and are upgraded than just recycled after one owner.
    I know I've watched a good build video when I find myself on Marketplace afterwards looking for the same dell to try it lol!
    I'm not sure if you've heard of my channel but I used to do similar videos with Dells a while ago, I'd like to get back into it but you know how juggling adult life is with time.
    Thanks for the video and reach out if we at Green Ham can do anything to help you out.

      Hi thanks for the comment and really glad you enjoyed the video and thank you for the branch of friendship, awesome to know the big guns take a look at us small fellows from time to time. I did enjoy your last video also, my Dell managed to kick the smoking habit a while back thankfully 🤩
      Yes its definitely an interesting concept! Not enough power? Well just undervolt the balls off it! I’ve always been a bit disappointed with the old just slap a 1050ti or 1650 in an old dell and these newer models are even more proprietary than the older 4th gen ones which doesn’t help. Luckily there was just enough room, just 😅
      It is a shame how much stuff gets wasted and I guess these come to the end of there company support from Dell and are just replaced and binned on mass. Little love and a few choice upgrades and she’s ready to serve again.
      No matter what these OEMs do we’ll always find a way 🙏🏼

I’ve also upgraded the cooler to a tower cooler and drop the temps by 30 degrees lol. You don’t need to under-volt the gpu for the 260w psu . The PSU is rated for **continuous** output not peak. Quite a brave move that sata to 8pin adapter but the donwclock and undervolt really helped with the power consumption.
    I built myself a Dell Inspiron 3881 with an i5 10400f, 16gb RAM, 500gb m.2 SSD and a GTX 1660 SUPER for about 255€. Mine had a 360W PSU which was much safer even though I had to buy a 6pin to 8pin adapter.

  • @b0ne91
    @b0ne91 Год назад

    Having 6 core CPUs without HT are still terrible. This is partially down to Windows. Using a ReviOS install would alleviate some of those problems.
    Check out the HP ProDesk 280 G1, 400 G1/G2 or 490 G1 MT. Base systems are often 30 pounds or less, they will take any PSU you throw at it without an adapter and the entire Xeon E3 v3 series works in them, even the 1231 v3 Haswell Refresh CPUs. So getting a cheap i7 substitute, throwing in a GPU and PSU as well as a 2x8 DDR3 kit gets you a really, really solid gaming PC to flip - especially with how far the 580 has come down in price. Going AMD also helps you avoid the DX12 driver overhead, which normally crushes these weaker CPUs.
    You'll see that's an even cheaper way to build a full system from OEM parts that actually performs better than the 8th gen i5 in a lot of scenarios, simply because having 8 threads (and an AMD GPU) gives you the CPU headroom you need.

    • @andystech101
      @andystech101  Год назад

      Hi thanks for the comment and yes been down that route before on the channel. The V3 XEONs are a great option and yes the 8threads are looking the better option even if it’s 6th/7th gen. Thats said you can pickup an i7 8700 for £70 here in the UK at the moment in CEX and selling the 8500 for £30/£40 would probably make the most sense. At least you’ve M.2 support then and DDR4 ram. Been noticing DDR3s performance in the 1% lows recently and it’s only going to get worse as time goes on 🙏🏼
