Lol, that’s the second worst SLI setup I’ve ever seen. The first was my friend’s LGA775 PC which had two passive Quadros in SLI- I forgot which model they were exactly, maybe NVS 300s.
Yeah it was a bit of a wet hand shake of a setup! I’m not sure you could have even bragged when it was new! Least they didn’t go for the i5 6500 so they had some sense 🤣
Andy, make this a budget beast, brother! I'm more of an Area 51 Alienware guy (if I could afford that stupid case, grrr) - but these are still cool. You could even be cheeky and hunt down some of those Dell made RX series cards, and show how it competes with their modern counterparts. I recently saw a plain 1080 (not TI) from Dell for like $100... These older Dell Alienwares still had the quirk'n'charm of the older systems from them - just not quite as desirable in the grand scheme I suppose.
so much potential on this old alienware, I'm suprised the local crimin- I mean technicians didn't steal the 2nd 950 after they cleaned it😂😂😂 it would be a great upgrade if you could get a hold of them blower Vega 56 Air Boost or a Quadro P4000. I saw a bulk of them listed for literally a $100 on fb marketplace in my country, you'd get $20 less for each if you buy them wholesale!
I’m still trying to work out what he paid £50 for… no new thermal paste, dusty fans, no drivers 🤷🏻♂️ £50 is a 16GB ram kit and a 500GB SSD. Definitely potential and I’ve just about got all the parts in for the upgrades 💪🏼
Its a nice looking case. Surprising the powersupply has 500 watts, means a 1060 6gb or a 1070 would be a perfect upgrade. I don't envy you putting up with HDD boot and load times :)
@@refurbs1971 Good call. Sticking with AMD for the lower driver overhead in newer games is the way to go. Give that old 6 series i7 as much help as possible. The 4.5GHz overclock Andy is planning will help a lot too. Polaris has reached Optiplex meme levels for tech tuber vids. Some of the RDNA line up is more interesting. Taking a vanilla 5700 to bench then flashing it to XT to compare would be fun. Then throw in a 2060 super that was at price parity with the XT for a compare and contrast in that old Alienware. Just running the same benchmarks all the time is stale. It'd be fun to see the 2060 super in that Alienware vs one of the Spiderman games and 2077 with RT reflections. I suspect the i7 will get seriously exposed. Stuff like that is interesting. I'd like to see 3DMark with the SLI setup too. Or any of the old games like Crysis that supported it. Do something fun and interesting with it.
@@da1punisher Benching those 2, 950's would be sweet, get the last games that supported SLI, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, ARK: Survival Evolved, Watch Dogs 2 etc see what can be achieved .
Could be a solid low budget machine, keep the 16 gb ram, swap gpu too something midrange from 2019 - 2022 like a 5600 xt or 6600. Or for nvidias cards an rtx 2060, 2060 super, maybe 3060 8 gb & put in a 1 tb m.2 ssd for games + 240 gb sata ssd for os, powersupply & cpu cooler upgrade.
Alienware used to have interesting things going on, even in the first few Dell years. Considering how small a percentage all these subbrands probably are for the major players, I wish they'd get a bit more wild again
Yes we need more wild 🤩 the latest gen just don’t even deserve screen time! Would love to get my hands on a SSF A51 with maybe an A2000 but will have to wait for that.
Leaving the 8GB of RAM in the PC and changing the graphics card would have been a bigger upgrade. Adding a cheap RX580 8GB 2048 SP cards from Aliexpess would have been a big boost. I bought my RX580 2048SP card for £41.42, true it only has a HDMI port as a display out but the performance over the GTX970 that had been in my Media PC previously was pretty damn big (I'm saying big a lot here aren't I) difference. If you do upgrade this PC in the future I'd be interested to see what the differences are.
Yeah I’ll be doing a full upgrade video, shouldn’t have really said upgrades but rams an upgrade I guess lol! I’m a big fan of those 2048s and use a lot for my budget builds and there really good value 💪🏼
Not that it would do a lot of good in today's games but you could leave the other gtx 950 in the system and just dedicate it as a PhysXs card. It's a very cool pc for the price.
Hi it’s technically in terms of performance a rebranded i7. There’s no real difference between the chips, the Xeons are better binned silicon and cost a lot more new.
slam a rx 7600 or older rx 6600 xt or non xt in it and it would play any game today decently even a 3050 or 3060 or 2060 super would do well if you can find them really cheap

Honestly just the unique case alone is worth quite a bit to me... That system has a ton of life left in it, I would love to see it pushed to the limit
It will be pushed and it will beg for mercy 🤩

There out there but they tend to pop up when you least expected.

The HDD was painful, nice for a day’s nostalgia but no it’s gone!
I like the aesthetics when its turned on, the I7 should be ok for gaming, lets see what GPU comes your way? new or second hand ?
Hi mate nice to here from you, will have to be second hand as even my first RUclips pay check won’t come up with much 😅 2060super I’m thinking…

that i7 6700 cpu looks solid to me it can run the 1080 ti and have a mad gaming pc.
Maybe some DLSS action as well just to help it along.

That is an idea and it would make a great sub retro pc, I’m thinking along the line of RX6600 maybe or an Aliexpress 2060super.
would it be possible to put a vega 56 in an optiplex?
Not a normal standard Optiplex due to the power requirements unless you fit a better PSU but it is doable.
nice space heater
Haha there’s always room for another space heater around the place 💪🏼

Why don't you do a sleeper with this system?
I might see if I can swap out the motherboard for a later R7 8th gen board and then we’d have an i7 8700 potentially! That would be something.
I was thinking more or less of a Ryzen system.
Bruh what? 2 GTX 950's in SLI? What madman decided on that? That's absolutely absurd lol
