I hear that if you place an EVGA sticker over the MSI branding it usually fixes these issues, straightens out your pcb, helps keep the solder together and such.
What blew my mind was how a card invented in 2022 was sent back in time to 1985, got fixed expertly and sent back to the future. the 1900s people are wild!!

As the PCB warps, the connection between the GPU chip / memory chips and the PCB starts to come apart at an imperceptible level. That tiniest of separation causes issues in the flow of electricity and data through the board causing the GPU to not be detected and then have subsequent memory errors. By reballing the chips and then using the press to reseat the GPU chip into the board he basically reseated those chips on the PCB and re-created those connections taking into account the current flex in the PCB thus fixing the errors
Or stop making cheap PCB's that bend, it loosens the components when the boards twist and said components/pathways start to fail. I hate how much we have to pay for so little.

"Buy what you can afford and not what the internet tells you" is useful in the second part of this statement since there are so many hacks on RUclips these days; however the first part is always a given for anyone! The most important statement these days is: "What brands are making a quality product for a competitive price?" I would be interested in what brands you would recommend based on PCB quality construction and other considerations that we users/amatuer builders would never notice. Watching your videos the past month seems to indicate most use the same brand of electronic components, (or just look identical from a layman's perspective.) I always had great luck with EVGA since when the company first was founded and never used anyone else for GPU's until starting this year. MSI was always suspect on quality on other products plus still don't offer proper English information for a builder. Also, no idea how many brands use the same PCB manufacturer, if any actually do that these days? I only pay more if they are offering higher speeds/or more memory or CPU clocks, (Assuming they are testing them and selecting the best performing silicone. I knew EVGA did this, not sure on other brands?) Thanks for any advice you give.

I have issues trying to solder a QFP, I have no idea how he managed to put new balls on every one of those BGA pads. He just prepped it and then dumped them on, carefully warming it to pull everything into place. I have no words to describe that level of skill.

I think they should make lga socket rather than bga. You deserve more subscribers respect and money for this level of skill. Absolutely fun to watch and learn from your videos. I would really appreciate if you teach us how to fix and diagnose the fault on the pcb and what readings should be taken. Different resistances checking and measuring voltages and drive signals of components on oscilloscope.
my last 2 video cards have been "eagle" from gigabyte. which is kind of their codeword for "base model" ... they have ran SUPER cool and I have had zero problems. i paid below MSRP for both (a 3060 then a 4070ti) and of course I considered a TUF model, and the Suprim models, but I am really glad after watching your videos that I saved the few hundred dollars. They are the same damn products lol. Love your videos man.
Well, i don't think many people would like to have 75-80 degrees on Premium GPU because it has slightly better PCB and slightly thicker traces... Because customer won't know what benefit it will bring to him. Also, i don't think that changing PCB that much is even possible for AIB's. Because every PCB design must be verified by Nvidia.

The music and cinematography take this repair to the level of art! Claps all the way! That aside, the MSI 4090 Supreme X has a descent bcb in terms of component selection. It doesn't do anything over the top compared to the FE edition, but if I remember correctly about the PCB breakdown that I did in the PCMR group, it's really decent compared to some other crap. By that, I mean there are a lot of really crappy PCBs with a trash level of component selection. It's sad to see that it failed like this, but it is what it is. It's a heavy 4090, after all. You can obviously take some measures to prevent it, but who's gonna be that techy with it anyway?😅
I can't say, that I would understand much of what you're doing there. Heck, I even have trouble discerning Ampere, Volt and Watts, what they actually are meassuring lol. But it is fascinating to watch, how you return seemingly dead cards back to a fully working life! I know it probably is an overused sentence, but such dedication is rare these days, no matter what trade we're talking about. Keep it up!
I made a humble request for you to give us more information on what it was thar you were seeing and why it indicated that something was wrong, then you gave us more details on what you were seeing and why and what needed to be done, then you gave greater detail as to what actions you were taking to try and make a solid repair, I could not of asked for more, you graciously added greater detail, I still don’t think I would ever try to do the amazing things that you make look like its easy, but I like to learn and you are giving us that even if we never try it ourselves. I have never been satisfied that if you turn on a light switch the light goes on, I have to know why the light came on. fascinating skils my friend.

So many dummies think that keeping shit secret and "proprietary" is the way, but the more that's shown, the more I can understand how you do your work and trust it. I showed this video to ONE guy, and he told me, what you do is just not practical ?? Additionally he offered me 5% discount on low melt solder and anti glar light lenses. He is such a great guy.
It really is not practical. The time you would need for this kind of fixing and the time you need for a cracked PCB fixing is the same time you can fix something else and get 500 USD or more. On top of this, you never know if the PCB is just bad and in 3 months (or maybe in two weeks) this very card is coming back to you with the exact same problem and you will need to work on it again for free.
People tend to move their PC while the GPU is still inside. Without GPU Support, even moving the PC a few meters might cause major damage. Especially some of the less tech literate have more money than common sense...
But which brand doesn't use unleaded solder though? Would be very helpful to know which ones to avoid buying. Or do they all have the same unleaded solder?

my 3060 12 gb crapped on me and amazon didnt want to honor my warranty and also they took some money because of the stocking fees bullshit. the damaged card wasnt even 6 months old. also msi is a terrible company to deal with
i dont buy msi cards anymore they did this to me with a 970 that was under warranty so i thought until i gave them everything even the recipt with proof of purchase and date they said cus the card was sitting on a shelf in storage my warranty was already ticking down when i needed them to fix it they said no your not under warranty....

Well normally the difference is on cooling and noise performance. The hotspot was under 70C, which is better than most cards. Not that the premium justifies the difference, but there is a difference

I've watched a few of his videos and I tell myself that I know what he's doing, but the truth is I have no idea.
He was washing something with dawn dish soap over and over.

It doesn't do anything over the top compared to the FE edition, but if I remember correctly about the PCB breakdown that I did in the PCMR group, it's really decent compared to some other crap. By that, I mean there are a lot of really crappy PCBs with a trash level of component selection. It's sad to see that it failed like this, but it is what it is. It's a heavy 4090, after all. You can obviously take some measures to prevent it, but who's gonna be that techy with it anyway?😅

I can't say, that I would understand much of what you're doing there. Heck, I even have trouble discerning Ampere, Volt and Watts, what they actually are meassuring lol.
But it is fascinating to watch, how you return seemingly dead cards back to a fully working life! I know it probably is an overused sentence, but such dedication is rare these days, no matter what trade we're talking about. Keep it up!

I made a humble request for you to give us more information on what it was thar you were seeing and why it indicated that something was wrong, then you gave us more details on what you were seeing and why and what needed to be done, then you gave greater detail as to what actions you were taking to try and make a solid repair, I could not of asked for more, you graciously added greater detail, I still don’t think I would ever try to do the amazing things that you make look like its easy, but I like to learn and you are giving us that even if we never try it ourselves. I have never been satisfied that if you turn on a light switch the light goes on, I have to know why the light came on. fascinating skils my friend.

So many dummies think that keeping shit secret and "proprietary" is the way, but the more that's shown, the more I can understand how you do your work and trust it. And see that it's probably not worth doing myself with all the specialized tools you've had to make. Plus I like supporting transparency

It really is not practical. The time you would need for this kind of fixing and the time you need for a cracked PCB fixing is the same time you can fix something else and get 500 USD or more. On top of this, you never know if the PCB is just bad and in 3 months (or maybe in two weeks) this very card is coming back to you with the exact same problem and you will need to work on it again for free.

It's not a proof of the card having same quality as other, it's the proof, that YOU MUST USE GPU SUPPORT for modern GPUs.
People tend to move their PC while the GPU is still inside. Without GPU Support, even moving the PC a few meters might cause major damage. Especially some of the less tech literate have more money than common sense...

my 3060 12 gb crapped on me and amazon didnt want to honor my warranty and also they took some money because of the stocking fees bullshit. the damaged card wasnt even 6 months old.

i dont buy msi cards anymore they did this to me with a 970 that was under warranty so i thought until i gave them everything even the recipt with proof of purchase and date they said cus the card was sitting on a shelf in storage my warranty was already ticking down when i needed them to fix it they said no your not under warranty....

Well normally the difference is on cooling and noise performance. The hotspot was under 70C, which is better than most cards. Not that the premium justifies the difference, but there is a difference
