    I had not heard of Will Hurd other than Alyssa mentioning him on the show but first impressions matter and I like him. He’s intelligent, respectful and gave direct, thoughtful answers. I’m a democrat but on the fence about another Biden presidency and I can appreciate moderate Republicans as a relief from these ultra conservatives trying to take us back 100 years! I hope he got some traffic to his website after this interview!

    I think as a republican he answered the last question in a way republicans could understand. Because had he just said yes while that would have been accepted by many Dems some republicans wouldn't understand that message. Instead of looking as he just danced around the question. As he spoke and answered questions he sounded like a reasonable person which is the difference from many republicans of today who are both in office and trying to join the crazy train for a check. This is what people mean when they say you can have a different opinion and discuss different topics. That's what it's supposed to look like. The rest of the republican candidates don't want to see change and continue a narrative that doesn't speak to what's really happening or happened in America.

As opposed to what Tim Scott did and completely denied history without pause. Out of all the republicans he actually looks like a candidate running for office. While the guy from Mami had three good policies he eliminated himself with the trump questions.

Meaning of course there were racist institutions in the past, but today, race is not a deciding factor that is keeping anyone from being successful today. He's right.

      ​@@christopheroswald3419i think he did answer and in a rly smart way. instead of just saying yes and have that turned into a soundbite, he explained what systemic racism actually is, through personal stories and statistics. a lot of viewers wouldn't be able to give an accurate definition of systemic racism, so he broke down what we're actually talking about when using those terms, and how real it is, how it impacted even his life.

    Whoopi used to be on her own sitcom years ago, and I still remember her character talking with her brother about politics. He identified as a Republican. And, to this day I remember Whoopi saying, "A Black Republican is like a Jew for Jesus." Made me laugh so hard!

    Don’t let this man fool you. He’s saying all the “decent” things to be a likable and respectable Republican. But, the reason he hasn’t gotten so far in Texas is because he has a tendency of dodging his constituents and not responding to their concerns and also saying one thing and doing another. This comes from someone who is a Texan and has seen firsthand he is not to be trusted. So he seems “reasonable”, but he just knows how to talk a good game. Most Republicans are just smoke screens of people and what they “would like you to think” they represent. Just saying 🤷🏾‍♀️

      That is because Trump and extremism is dominating the race and those "typical republican talking points" or ideas are no longer "typical". So, you cannot ignore trump and extremism. Every candidate will have to address trump and extremism. That is how Biden actually got some Republican to vote for him in 2020. Everything was so extreme that Biden just had to show up as the rational person and with little emphasis on policies. People wanted Trump out more than they wanted Biden in.

It is just impossible and naive to ignore the elephant in the room: a criminally indicted former president leading the race- and having the backing of most republicans including his most of his opponents in the same race. That is just unprecedented. Hence, this will not be like every other election hence the questions will not go away. Also, if trump is the nominee, those policy question will definitely not be addressed even in the primary.

    While Hurd is one of the most decent republicans we have seen in a while, he danced around answering Sunny's question RE: systemic racism. To me, that indicates he is more concerned about optics within his Republican party than advancing efforts to eradicate longstanding institutional forms of oppression for racialized persons in America.

    I am not of either party, thank goodness but I have followed W. Hurd since he was on Bill Maher’s show. I think Mr. Hurd would make a wonderful president. It’s good to see a human being in the race, finally!

    He may deserve a chance but his party....just NO! I have no hope that the Republicans will let sanity rule. When your party becomes sane I would be willing to take a deeper look at your views. I might even give you a dollar to get you on that stage and I am NOT a Republican.

    We have to stop getting excited about any Republican that appears reasonable - not being crazy is a pretty low bar. Will Hurd voted for Trump over 80% of the time, backed Trump’s tax giveaways for the ultra-wealthy, supported withdrawing from the Paris climate agreement, voted to ban abortion nationwide, opposed legislation to lower prescription drug costs, voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act, and received thousands of dollars and a A rating from the NRA.

With that being said, all I heard from the other candidates is lip services. This republican party is so incompetent until they make me itch. I could see him being the Republican version of Obama or even Colin Powell.. now a lot of Trumpers won't come out for him, but you also have a bunch of Dems that wouldn't want to come out against anyone not named Trump. There'd be a smaller turnout.. Where Hurd could really make a difference is if he went up against Kamala Harris in 2028. She doesn't have as many good points as Biden and she'd be vulnerable to just about anyone BUT Trump.
