"When a candidate to serve as our military’s commander-in-chief so brazenly dismisses the valor and reverence symbolized by the Medal of Honor and those who have earned it, I must question whether they would discharge their responsibilities to our men and women in uniform with the seriousness and discernment necessary for such a powerful position. It is even more disappointing when these comments come from a man who already served in this noble office and should frankly already know better.

My grandpa got the Medal of Honor in WW2. His gunship was trying to take off. They had just taken on survivors, and the Zeros (Pacific Theater) were coming back around. They killed the pilot, the co-pilot, and half the crew. Grandpa had to leave his turret position and get them off of the water. He saved the remaining crew and all of the officers who had been in the water. He wasn't all messed up. And he didn't die. You CAN show extraordinary valor without losing life or limb. It is just that if you did lose life or limb rescuing people, yes, you showed valor.

I am so glad both my grandfathers are not here to hear those comments by Trump. My father’s father served in the rebuilding of Germany after WW2. My Mother’s father fought in Korea and was severely injured by a grenade blast inside a foxhole. He was a hardline conservative, life long republican, and he hated arrogant salesman like Trump.

Well just to imagine things on an economic scale, the Vietnam war cost $843.63 billion in 2019 dollars. There are over 58, 000 names on the Vietnam Memorial and only 268 Medals of Honor were awarded for service during the conflict. This works out to a representational cost of about $3.15 billion spent on the war effort per recipient. The Adelsons donated $25 million in 2016 to Trump, then $75 million in 2020 to his Superpac. Miriam Adelson will donate north of $90 million to Trump in 2024. When it's all said and done, nothing can add up to the service and commitment of all who've served.

I served 4 years from 1961 to 196 in the Navy. I was on an LST for three years and were never in any danger that we were aware of. We spent most of our deployments to Panama and went to central and south American countries. I missed being sent to Viet Nam by 8 days. I was acquainted with some Army Special Forces soldiers who had their jungle warfare school in Panama. Their team got sent to Viet Nam and many of them did not make it back. I still don't understand what we were doing there even after all these years.
Trump dodged the draft back then by getting a phony medical deferment from a doctor who rented space in one of his father's building. Heal spurs supposedly! Him commenting on veterans and the medals that they have earned, usually at some great cost. and should be held accountable for all of the things he has done and managed to get away with. I wonder what has happened to our government that lets someone like Trump to go unpunished.
