  • Welcome back to Auto Scholar with Mr. B! Today we are replacing the brake pads in the back of this 2010 Toyota Prius. I also show you how to back flush the caliper so we do not cause any contamination of an ABS components. Remember to resurface or replace the rotors and lubricate the caliper slides. This video should work for 2010-2015 Prius models and others, and will work as a guide to do the front brakes as well. Remember, you must remove the terminal for the 12v battery and the service plug for the high voltage battery!
    Here are a few rear brake tool kits that will make this job easier. These are affiliate links and the channel will receive a commission if used. Thanks for the support!

    Thank you. Great tip on opening the bleeder. Do not want to compromise the actuator, pump unit.

    Great clear details instructions 👍. Video took a little bit longer than mostly people posted. However I really enjoy watching and learning details that mostly people don't shared. Thank you 💓😊

    I appreciate this video Mr B. It helped me with my Prius brakes. I didn't quite understand what you were doing with that compression tool. By twisting it you were compressing the piston, though I wasn't quite sure how it was working. I have to figure out how to do that on my own. I don't have that large kit. So perhaps in future videos you could demonstrate the cheap little cube tool, it might be a PITA but that's what most of us non-mechanics will buy I'd guess. :-)

      auto zone has a lend a tool feature-they charge your credit card but allow you to bring it back when your done. Its a multi tool that works on both the front and back as these are different

    When I compressed the piston on one side, it only took about 5-10 full rotations but on the other side, I literally had to make from 50- 100 rotations but I finally got it. Any ideas why one side took so many rotations?

    Hello Mr. B. I have a big doubt about how to intervene in the brake circuit, both for changing brake fluid and changing brake pads. And it's about not damaging the accumulator when the traps are opened. I understand that you have to discount the negative cable of the battery and not open the driver's door, is this true? I have a fourth generation prius plus. Thank you
    Hola Sr. B. Tengo una gran duda sobre cómo intervenir en el circuito de frenos, tanto para el cambio de líquido de frenos como para el cambio de pastillas de freno. Y se trata de no dañar el acumulador cuando se abren las trampas. Entiendo que hay que descontar el cable negativo de la batería y no abrir la puerta del conductor, ¿es cierto? Tengo un Prius plus de cuarta generación. Gracias

    I bought a 2011 gen 3 from a dealer. Very clean with 200 k. 2 weeks later head gasket goes bad. Do you know of trade schools that work on the general publics cars at reduced rates as the cost of the repair prohibits me from using it. Thank you

    • @AutoScholarwithMrB
      @AutoScholarwithMrB  2 года назад

      It is going to depend on the school. We take in limited work, but something like this is fairly complex for students to handle. Many schools don’t take any work due to liability concerns.

    • @uli3119
      @uli3119 Год назад +1

      You need a torque wrench. There is no approximating anything without one.

    • @sonyxperiathree4554
      @sonyxperiathree4554 8 месяцев назад

      Maybe the brake fluid was toped off before as the brake pads were wearing. So no need to add fluid.

    Is it really ok to bleed / backflush the brake line with the new pads in and the fluid running onto the caliper?

    • @williamwaters4506
      @williamwaters4506 Год назад

      No, I buy a foot or two of hose line that fits on the bleeding nipple. The fluid can be drained into a can or jar.
