Just a quick video showing how to replace the front brake pads & Rotors on a 2014 Toyota Prius.
These pads were totally worn down and the brake pedal was starting to pulsate when braking at high speeds. Also, the brake pads were starting to make a little noise when braking. These new pads and rotors work great.
When I did this, I must've been sleep deprived or maybe just in a hurry because I put the abutment clips (pad retainer spring clips) in backwards. I took them back off and put them in correctly, but I wanted to mention that to make sure you don't make that same mistake that I did.
Tools Needed:
Large Screwdriver, C-Clamp, or Caliper compression tool
14mm wrench or socket
17mm open end wrench if the caliper slide pins spin when removing the caliper slide pin bolts
17mm Socket and Breaker Bar to remove the caliper bracket bolts
Torque Wrench
Brake grease
Torque spec on the caliper slide pin bolts (the ones that go into the slide pins) 25 ft. lbs.
Torque spec for the Larger Caliper bracket bolts is 101 ft. lbs.

Thanks for the video with money being tight these days this saved a bunch..
I am about to change rotors and pads on my Prius 2014 and your video will greatly help. Thanks
I am in the process of educating myself to replace the brake pads and rotors on my 2013 Prius. I have watched several, most adding something new which yours did also. A few other videos were NOT helpful. Your video is very good with clear and precise instructions and good video. THANKS !
Awesome viseo, very clear, with all the details included, such as bolt size to pop rusty rotor off, all bolt torque specs, etc, so clear, genuine and professional, thank-you, 10 out of 10!!!
The videos on this channel are top notch and always very thorough. Nice work
Girlfriend got quoted $650 from the dealer just to do the front rotors and pads. Nope. I’m ordering parts now and knocking it out next weekend.
Superb video!
I also noted that in order to get a breaker bar on those tight caliper mounting bolts, you angled the front wheels for easy access...good tip!
Thanks so much for the video! Never knew about burping the rubber sleeves. Heading out to change my Prius pads and rotors now. Keep up the great work!
The "Tanya Harding" HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Great video Dan..thanks for sharing your knowledge here. I have a Toyota Prius needed to change rotor disc and brakes !👍😊
I like all the little tricks...!
Very clear instructions, thank you!
can't even imagine how nice it would be to work on a car with so little rust. Amazingly easy work. I live in the butt hole of america. Western NY the underside of every vehicle is coated in thick rust from the f'ing salt they cast on the roads from December through may. I have to literally cut the hardware bracket bolts off to get the bracket off. The rust is better than a weld on those bolts. Try all the impact wrenches you want, all you'll do is shear the head of the bolt off. I so envy you.
50/50 Water and White Vinegar will dissolve rust in Three-Day Soak.
Rinse, wipe with Alcohol and Top Coat with Rust O Leum.
Non-Toxic, Cheap, Effective.
Thanks for the instructions, God bless very helpful.
Not being paid for my endorsement, but Rock Auto has the best prices, products & services IMHO.....my brake job part cost was less than 1/2 from other retailers and the components were top notch.
Nice explanation Thank you
Its called a breaker bar because it makes it easy to break shit off.
Before you do all this work, don't forget to disconnect the negative battery cable.
What if you leave the driver door open?
For a brake job? I don't understand why.
Nevermind. I found out in other comments why this is necessary. It has something to do with a brake actuator....maybe part of regenerative braking?
No mention to disconnect the negative battery terminal FIRST relative to the electronic brake actuator? I saw other videos where this can become more expensive issue if you do not. Have a 2015 Prius, unless different scenario than a 2014 setup.
If you forget to disconnect the battery, don't open the driver door, if you do open the door during the brake job then the big mess will happen.
@@PickyOne did you have to bleed the brakes? Thank you for the tip
@@jasonbroscious2715 no, you don't have to bleed the brake fluid when replacing the pads and/or rotors. Bleeding the brake fluid is a separate job and has its own intervals, or when necessary.
Is this necessary when doing just the front or would you need to do it when replacing only the rear as well?
I love how you complained about the pins, Had me rolling on the floor. Once again in the butt hole of 'merica. Western NY I have to use a drift pin and a hammer and knock those pis out to clean them and re-grease. Yours come out by wiggling them, and they are shiny as the day they were installed, OMG.
So you do not have to bleed the brakes? My 2008 Prius I had to do the paperclip jig to reset the computer and not remove battery cable. So no special trick is needed to reset the computer or warning lights?
except for the obvious, as people pointed out, you have to remove the negative battery cable
@@jasonbroscious2715 no need to bleed if you don’t open the system
You should probably disconnect the battery first
