I will pop a Vid up shortly- you can use a downrigger release clip(scotty or cannon seem to be best cheapies don't work) on the elastic band and is makes this knot so easy and quick to tie!
I do something real similar but just make surgeons loop in the braid and place it over the handle then rest is same, however the rubber band trick I see will be so much better as it self adjusts for the most part? Cheers man, best FG idea I have found in a long time subbed, hope you’ll keep at it
The rubber band is good but if you add a Scotty downrigger release clip to the rubber band that is pure magic💪. So fast it feels like you are cheating!
I’ll stick with a locked Albright knot. I’d be curious to see testing on 2-6lb test line to see if the amount of force needed to lock in a FG knot properly renders the line weaker than less extreme knots like the Alberto, Albright, Yucatán knot etc. Wrenching down 10lb + line is a bit different than wrenching down 4lb imo
4lb is a fickle beast to tie, I used to run a Bimini twist to an Albright but since I’ve got the knack of the FG it is way more consistent. I’ve never tied it in lighter than 4lb though and I have little things I do to not stress the leader tying. I spent a rainy day trying all the braid to leader knots and then tested to breaking, now FG is my go to 😎. Thanks for watching though 💪
@@Minimissions101 Best way doesn't require any rubber band. Just make a 20-30cm loop on the braid, wrap it around your pinky/ring fingers to get tension of a 2 or 3 inch section. Then grab your fluoro leader with the other hand to do the wraps. This is the pro way to make an FG knot. No need to use teeth, rubber bands, knot-making tools or tying the line to anything for tension to form the wraps. Only tool I use are the knot tighteners to properly serve the knot. I've been doing this for over 27yrs.
Having shiny pearly whites should always be high priority when you are out fishing, just on the off chance you come across a mermaid 😉 seriously though, I use a knot puller (about $10) but a rubberised toothbrush handle will do the job just fine. You need to use something similar otherwise you will cut yourself on the braid when you tension your knot. Thanks for watching 💪🫡
Awesome dude keep up the good work. Plenty of ways to do it like the rubber bands 🤙🏽
You are a life saver, mate. It's taken me years trying to learn this knot. The elastic bands and toothbrushes trick is brilliant

Great tip. Just tied my best ever FG
Great simple ideas love the rubber band to free up a hand and the tooth brushes to tighten especially with braid
Great work
Thanks☺ It is a heap easier if you run a Scotty downrigger clip at the end of the rubber band 💪
Lmao, my boat just drifted a mile without my spotlock on.
Good job. You might want to put a black background for easier viewing of knot. Thanks for the hack!

You can always salvage the rubber bands with a surgeons loop knot
I’ve started using a rubber band attached to a Scotty downrigger release clip and it is a game changer on this knot 😎

Shaking my head
No head shaking required, just a couple of rubber bands 💪 way easier to get the hang of than the purple pinky method ☺️
👍🏻🇨🇦
This is the dumb way how to tie an FG
I know right 🙄 the best way is too attach a Scotty downrigger clip to the rubber band then you don’t need to clip the rubber bands tying the knot 💪

Yeah always take toothbrushes fishing🙄why not use your hands
