I’ve always had confidence in the FG knot but no matter the tying technique, it’s always been very hard to tie out in the water. I used the double uni until I saw a break strength video and the uni broke at 60% of line strength. The Alberto broke at 92% or so and the FG was breaking anywhere from 105% to 115% . I switched to the Alberto after watching that video. You video made the FG look easy, I got home today and put new leaders on all of my spinning rods using your technique and it’s super easy. I will definitely be using the FG from now on. Great video and awesome technique. Thanks!
Why didn't I think of that moment. Using the reel handle as a tensioner of the braid. I pulled a rod out just to try it myself and tied the best and quickest FG knot I've ever tied. No more triple knotting line and holding in my teeth; Thank you!
@pescadorestamora hard to understand that. I've tied FGs on a fishing kayak before and think this simplifies it since you only have to manage the one line. I have a boat now and figure the more room the better. I also usually go thru my rods before I head out for the day so it is rare that I have to tie a new knot. Tight lines!
exactly how i do and i love it, but i recommend after weaving and the first knot to pull tight both the braid and the leader so that the whole weaving part to clinch the leader until you'll see a little bit of irregular twist on the weaving section then you'll know that the line is not going to slide off the end of the leader from the finishing knot. thought it looks hard or a hassle to do while you're fishing but it'll ensure you, you'll land your fish for sure!
What a great idea! I had mostly given up on FG's for leader below 15lb because the leader is too soft and just kinks with conventional methods. This looks like a better option because you can use both hands to keep the leader straight.

I did not try to acomplish the fancy finish as my main knot is a C-. It is sure slick. Looking for Cali Halibut this weekend. Great tutorial after I finish the first half hitch I use two pieces of 3/8” dowel wrap the trace around 1 and the braid around the other about 4times pull on both till the knot changes colour then do the yazuri? Knot seems to work well have landed 70 lb Spanish mackerel ,Australia , on this
If you can't seem to tie this knot, don't ignore other knots that will do just as good a job. There are knots that are very easy to tie, are small and go through guides just as smoothly and are plenty strong enough to do the job. I use the Alberto and Modified Albright and have never had them fail and I have caught some big fish on them.
@@pescadorestamora I have also been using improved Albright for several years. Much easier to tie with arthritis... but your FG looks like it may also be easier with my sore fingers too. Been tying the FG since most folks called it the Sebile knot, and love it, just got too hard as my hands have gotten worse.
Side note: don't do many wraps 12-14 (depending on diameter) is enough otherwise the knot looses strength since you can't cinche the first wraps properly
usually, i would use swivel to attach main line and leader line. Before a swivel, i put a small sinker so that the leader will not go into the eyes hole of the fishing rod. Is there any specific advantages of this method instead of a swivel ?
In my opinion, the advantage of using the leader line method can enter the eye of the hole in the fishing rod. So you can use a longer leader line. But it all depends on individual taste. 🙏🎣
It's not great to use a swivel when trying to present your baits as naturally as possible. It is especially a bad idea to use a swivel when lure fishing since even the slightest of weights on your line can affect the lures action.

I also did 20 wraps, my advice when you braid into mono or fluoro make sure the main line is really taut. so your braid will tie tightly on the mono or fluoro line so that the braid created will not slip. hope this can help you 🙏🎣

No. If doing so, the knot will slip. For FG knot, the braid must be thinner than the mono so it can dig into the mono. Otherwise the knot will slip. 20lb braid to 25-30 lb should be ok. Another factor ignored by fisherman is the smoothness of the braid. 4X is better than 8X. You can remove some coating with a towel. If bass fishing with a baitcaster, don't even bother tying this knot. You need 30-50lb thicker braid to prevent line digging into the spool. For the FG knot, thicker braid to the thin mono is a joke. If using a spinning reel for bass fishing, you can have thin braid like 10-15lb test connected to 15-20lb mono via a FG knot without a problem.
I use the fg knot on 10lb braid with 6lb fluro leader. It works and had never failed on me - this is for egi fishing (lots of hard jerking on the line) and for australian herring. Just sharing my experience with it that it works with braid thicker than leader.
After watching this, I'm 100% confident that I could tie this w/no issues whilst on the water. Pretty rudimentary. But I'll need that snazzy jazz track to do so. Otherwise, NFW.

The FG knot is a smooth and strong knot, but it is not recommended if shorecasting is your hobby. If you are in the middle of the sea with water up to your waist or chest and your line snaps, you will have to walk back half to one kilometer to the shore without water. It’s better to have a backup knot like the SC knot, which you can tie without applying any tension.
16 Vs. 20 - you can tie too many crossovers which prevents proper tightening at the very 1st ones (the most important) if they arent properly tightened the whole thing slips under load. I tie 16 crossovers then 1 half hitch & thoroughly tighten till color change down the full length of the crossovers. This is followed by about 4-6 alternating half hitches then a 6 or 7 turn rizutto finish. I hit the tag end exiting the rizutto finish after its been tightened with just a dot of crazy glue not uv glue as it is too thick & gives too much build up. You can find videos explaining this in detail.

Yeah cool with the handle. The Rizzuto has nothing to do with the FG slipping though. An FG will slip if it is not tensioned enough. It needs to change colour when tensioned

I'm used to use the finger tension method, but this is a great way too, especially for people learning it from scratch or with little dexterity
I used to use my fingers too, but sometimes my fingers hurt. And now I am used to using a knob reel like this 😁
I use a soft nylon leader and find the finger method doesn't work well.

Why does my wraps not wrap onto my FC? I have since cut away close to 50m of FC.....

For a braid to leader knot, the FG has scored immensely well in percentage of line strength retained.

Get a drag checker and test its strength. Same FG but a bit different style can have 3-5 kilo impact which is a lot.

16 Vs. 20 - you can tie too many crossovers which prevents proper tightening at the very 1st ones (the most important) if they arent properly tightened the whole thing slips under load. I tie 16 crossovers then 1 half hitch & thoroughly tighten till color change down the full length of the crossovers. This is followed by about 4-6 alternating half hitches then a 6 or 7 turn rizutto finish. I hit the tag end exiting the rizutto finish after its been tightened with just a dot of crazy glue not uv glue as it is too thick & gives too much build up. Yeah cool with the handle. The Rizzuto has nothing to do with the FG slipping though. An FG will slip if it is not tensioned enough. It needs to change colour when tensioned
