Let him get a metal sliver in his eye and that'll learn him... Heck, I wear 'em all the time and I still have had my share! Painful and a HUGE PITA to deal with - ER or ophthalmologist, dilation ointment, antibiotic goop, painful eye irritation, eye patch - plus the time and hassle to get there and deal with it. And that's just for a sliver. If anything bigger gets in there he could not only need surgery but could lose it.
Thats what I was gonna comment! I had a grinder slip out of my hand while cutting exhaust and narrowly missed my scalp. Never again will I use a grinder without protection.
I was thinking the same thing. I know people who work/have worked in shops for a living that have had slivers in their eyes at least once. Some learned their lesson, some didn't and ended up with slivers in the eye multiple times.
Great video Dylan but try wearing safety glasses or even sunglasses to help keep metal out of your eyes when grinding. It sucks getting metal in your eyes. It is nice to see a young man that can drive a three on the tree.
Seems like there's alot of love here for the 'slant 6' which I wholeheartedly agree is, especially today with the cost of fuel where its at and going. A fine engine for just tooling about, sans any serious heavy load in tow.
First, EYE PROTECTION AND GRIND SHIELD. Second, I love this truck. Had a very rusty 79 d150 as my first truck. With the leaning tower of "power" under the hood this is a very rare survivor. I would leave the power train just as is. Fix the door and hood latch and take it to the local cruises and car shows. Oh, give the Cordoba its wheels back. That truck would look better with white wheels and dog dish hubcaps. Thanks for the video it makes me miss my gas guzzling 79 D150 with a 360.
I don't consider pressure washing the engine bay to ever be a waste of time because I don't want to get unnecessarily dirty or greasy or have to dig around in mouse poop and spiders. I also like to be able to see what I'm doing - but hey, to each his own. 🤷♂️👍
Pretty sweet old truck! I had a friend many years ago who always said, "you can't kill a slant 6 engine". This old truck tends to prove that out. The three on the tree is just a bonus. You can get that working much smoother if you get the bushings in the linkage either lubed up or replaced. I would fix that door first though!
Long barrel air hammer you'll be glad you have it,, especially if you are doing suspension work and in my experience dvapc, and Ingersoll and rand is definitely what I would use and the high speed air drill will probably come in handy at times too,, and the farm and ran ir air compressor is a nice setup!!

I rarely comment. Thank you for posting this. My dad had a 79 D100 when I was a kid. I used to hate it at the time but I learned a lot on that truck. My dad is 80 and cant do a whole lot anymore. We watched this video together and had a great time.
I had the problem with a rusted on wheel as well. I used a 4" x4" and a bottle jack between the wheels. Just cut the wood to the right length, remove the lug nuts from the stuck wheel and let the jack do the work. Cheap and effective and no swinging a hammer!
Hello Dylan and Briar! Love the video of you learning to drive a column shifter. I learned @9or10yrs. Old. A field is always a good place to start. Your power! For steering and If there's Xtra horsepower, you still have to stop. A 1/3mile ahead of time
I miss the 3 on the tree! I learned to drive manual on one with our 1977 Plymouth Voyager van. The best part would be when you stop at an intersection and then try to start again and the shifter linkage would get stuck because of worn bushings and you’d have to go under the hood and pull on the linkage to pop it free again while cars behind you start honking and getting impatient. That was living.
I remember back in the late 70's, I worked for the Arkansas highway department, they bought I think 25 Dodge D100 for use , they had the 225, 3 speed on the column. Cheap trucks, pretty good and decent fuel mileage.
Reminds of the stuff I drove when I was a teenager. Even the door opening especially during turns lol. We didn’t have power steering so really had to get on the wheel to reach out and close the door. Passenger side was a blast when it would open. Seen some farmers used old hog panel pins and hardware to keep them doors closed when driving. Thanks for showing this. Don’t change the truck it’s a legend. I would daily it. The ladies would love it.
Two methods to get the rim off the hub. a 10 ton body jack kit that a panelbeater would use. Jack between the leaf spring mount on the other side to a block of wood on the inside edge of the rim. Use the 2 long extensions in the kit. Then pump er up! Or get the torch and warm up the rim. It cant stay stuck to the hub if its liquid. !LOL IR have been making quality tools and compressors for over a hundred years. They last. Good to see it running like new nearly.
Love the video. I can't hear all the noises your hearing but i had a 79 power wagon long ago and it was making a noise, so i replaced the throw out bearing and still had the noise, turns out the trans was just low on fluid. Lessons learned . Keep up the great videos

I remember early-mid 90s, best friend had a 75 D100 with 360, we had so much fun with it. Started as full time 4WD, but they swapped 3/4 ton front axle with disc/rotors (came with front drums) and Warner hubs to unlock the front.

I’ve got a 1986 dodge d100 with a 225 slant six. I sent Dylan pictures of it awhile back when I was building the slant six they are bulletproof. Currently building a 318 for the truck now. The reason the slant six is so reliable is because it doesn’t make a lot of power. But boy are they fun

I have a 1973 dodge d-100 that wouldn’t start for a year and I looked at the that box that you guys replaced and she fired up and ran perfectly I was amazed that that was the only thing stopping her from running
I was not surprised to see that slant fire up right away because I have messed with a bunch of them to know that they just want to run they may not be a big powerhouse but they will run no matter what condition it is outside or how long it's sat they all just fire up. I had them run with broken rods and a big window in the block and it would fire up and run like nothing was even wrong with it. They are tough reliable engines
Excellent video Dylan :) , Bryer :) fix up this 1975 Dodge D150 , new key ignition switch replacement, also transmission winding sound need new fluid , plus clutch plate too and bearing! Scrape sounds like Exhaust Pipe dragged on pavement too and do unverisal joints on drive shaft too plus also plus back brakes! Fuel tank and send unit plus lines too! Also change engine oil plus oil filter , Balis Restior too and rebuilt carb to plus PCV Valve on Valve cover air filter and engine belts also rad coolant to ! Plus power steering fluid too and differential fluid too ! You have fix drivers door also lights any electrical fix too and think truck last long time!
What an awesome old truck. I'll be honest and say that while I love a hopped up small block as much as the next guy, I love seeing old inline sixes fixed up and hot rodded even more because they get zero love usually. I'll never understand why honestly, because the old sixes are tough, cool, respond well to mods, and just drip cool and uniqueness when you see one in a sea of V8's. If you're going to use the death wheel, wear your glasses and hearing protection. You have no reason whatsoever to not use them. You're a role model, and have a lot of years left to have sight in both eyes and enjoy sleep without tinnitus. Eyes don't grow back and that ringing noise does not go away.

I love seeing these old Dodge “D” & “W” series trucks getting revived & being given new life, especially anything with an original gear reduction starter. Any vehicle with a slant 6 seems to glide along the ground smoothly. So I bet this drove smoothly after a while.
I had a short bed with the 3speed on the floor. It had the 225 slant 6 like yours. I bought it for 200 dollars. I bought it with a prominent rod knock. The truck still ran amazingly well and I sold it for 400 as The Rod Knock Express.
One of two of the most toughest motors ever made 225 slant six and the 318 V8 I had the same model truck and same color when I got it had just a body put a 3:40 with a cam in it automatic transmission with a Hurst shifter it would move on down the road wish I still had it Miss that truck
I love them all 225 slant sixes you can't kill them. I just bought a 74 myself that had been sitting for 25 years and it started right up the gas tank and everything was all junk but I've got it running off of a gas can
I’ve seen some comments that this might be an Air Force truck. I do not believe it is. USAF trucks were dark blue and there would be painted markings on the doors. That Arnold Air Force Base sticker is for personal vehicles to have access to the base.

These trucks were exceptionally sturdy. The body seldom rots loose from the frame. The diffs DO however have a limit of around 200K. The slant & 318 are both long-lived. The wiring harness develops bad connections at the firewall. The pilot bearing needs checking in a clutch job. Good luck!
@Dylan McCool you should look into one of those induction heater tools. helps break free bolts and anything metal like that rod. there are attachments that you can coil it yourself custom like to wrap around something like that.
A really good thig to add is an Aussie speed Huricane intake, and a Quick fuel 390/=450 cfm carb. A set of Dutra Duel exhaust manifolds. What a difference in power and Torque. I have that setup on my 74 dart custome.

I can personally vouch for the 225 slat six. I once had an oil drain plug fall out about a mile from my home and when I parked it, I seen the oil draining so I got another drain plug to put in as well as oil I drove that car for two more years after that.

I have a 1973 dodge d-100 that wouldn’t start for a year and I looked at the that box that you guys replaced and she fired up and ran perfectly I was amazed that that was the only thing stopping her from running

I was not surprised to see that slant fire up right away because I have messed with a bunch of them to know that they just want to run they may not be a big powerhouse but they will run no matter what condition it is outside or how long it's sat they all just fire up. I had them run with broken rods and a big window in the block and it would fire up and run like nothing was even wrong with it. They are tough reliable engines

Excellent video Dylan :) , Bryer :) fix up this 1975 Dodge D150 , new key ignition switch replacement, also transmission winding sound need new fluid , plus clutch plate too and bearing! Scrape sounds like Exhaust Pipe dragged on pavement too and do unverisal joints on drive shaft too plus also plus back brakes! Fuel tank and send unit plus lines too! Also change engine oil plus oil filter , Balis Restior too and rebuilt carb to plus PCV Valve on Valve cover air filter and engine belts also rad coolant to ! Plus power steering fluid too and differential fluid too ! You have fix drivers door also lights any electrical fix too and think truck last long time!
What an awesome old truck. I'll be honest and say that while I love a hopped up small block as much as the next guy, I love seeing old inline sixes fixed up and hot rodded even more because they get zero love usually. I'll never understand why honestly, because the old sixes are tough, cool, respond well to mods, and just drip cool and uniqueness when you see one in a sea of V8's. Dylan, I appreciate the work you do. You do good work, very knowledgeable, very positive attitude and very clean cut. Stop being stupid. If you're going to use the death wheel, wear your glasses and hearing protection. You have no reason whatsoever to not use them. You're a role model, and have a lot of years left to have sight in both eyes and enjoy sleep without tinnitus. Eyes don't grow back and that ringing noise does not go away.

I love seeing these old Dodge “D” & “W” series trucks getting revived & being given new life, especially anything with an original gear reduction starter. Any vehicle with a slant 6 seems to glide along the ground smoothly. So I bet this drove smoothly after a while.

I had a short bed with the 3speed on the floor. It had the 225 slant 6 like yours. I bought it for 200 dollars. I bought it with a prominent rod knock. The truck still ran amazingly well and I sold it for 400 as The Rod Knock Express.

One of two of the most toughest motors ever made 225 slant six and the 318 V8 I had the same model truck and same color when I got it had just a body put a 3:40 with a cam in it automatic transmission with a Hurst shifter it would move on down the road wish I still had it Miss that truck

I love them all 225 slant sixes you can't kill them. I just bought a 74 myself that had been sitting for 25 years and it started right up the gas tank and everything was all junk but I've got it running off of a gas can
After cleanup, the primer spot on the driver door looks like Venom's face.😂 Not usually a fan of patina, but I like the look of this truck.
I’ve seen some comments that this might be an Air Force truck. I do not believe it is. USAF trucks were dark blue and there would be painted markings on the doors. That Arnold Air Force Base sticker is for personal vehicles to have access to the base.

These trucks were exceptionally sturdy. The body seldom rots loose from the frame. The diffs DO however have a limit of around 200K. The slant & 318 are both long-lived. The wiring harness develops bad connections at the firewall. The pilot bearing needs checking in a clutch job. Good luck!
@Dylan McCool you should look into one of those induction heater tools. helps break free bolts and anything metal like that rod. there are attachments that you can coil it yourself custom like to wrap around something like that.

A really good thig to add is an Aussie speed Huricane intake, and a Quick fuel 390/=450 cfm carb. A set of Dutra Duel exhaust manifolds.

Love This style Dodge trucks, especially with a slant six and 3 on the tree. A Daily Driver for sure after some new exhaust and fixing the door latches!
I can personally vouch for the 225 slat six. I once had an oil drain plug fall out about a mile from my home and when I parked it, I seen the oil draining so I got another drain plug to put in as well as oil I drove that car for two more years after that.
