Hey bud, just wanna let you know that the reason a lot of us like this channel is the variety of types of videos you do. A lot of other channels just do races, or just do revivals, or just to auto repair, but you do it all. Keep it up, great video!
Speak for yourself bro, I only watch the revivals
@@ericthelv51battlemage7 judging by the likes it seems like you're the only one whos speaking for themselves 💀
@@ericthelv51battlemage7I’m with ya. I enjoy the revivals so much more. I know he also has some upgrade episodes which I’ll tune in for but man I love me some revivals
Yep go the revivals I agree 👍
Don’t listen to these other comments on your post here, I will say, I’m guilty of liking the “found this let’s fix it up and drive it home” vids, but I’ve been watching Derek for most of his time on the yous tubes, and the most enjoyment I get has to do with him being just and all around good feller. Good mix of learning something, and comedy. He is the type of people we need to keep the few of us interested in doing our own work/repair to our vehicles that we need.
Love these videos, especially on a Friday! Can't wait to see.
Agree, great way to spend a Friday evening.
Enjoy your videos too
Love your channel man!
Especially with a few beers!!
Customer states... Derek sure is a fella worth watching
Derek is the Bob Ross of automotive youtube. I watch many of these videos to wind down at the end of the day with some fantastic therapeutic content.
Part Bob Ross and part Red Green.
I agree stress buster! Good lad!!
We often hear so much about the Mopar 340,360,440 but the 318 is a fantastic engine. 15 years and after it starts, it idles, no smoke, no stuck lifters. My brother and I fixed up same truck in 1988 when I was 16. It ran like a dream.
318 was only motor Dodge made IMO
My 1970 Roadrunner has a 383.
Great engine was the 318
Replaced 3 motors in a p/u like this took from OH to AZ it did not like the heat after 2nd died got rid of never owned another Dodge
My uncle had one that had over 300k on it and still ran.
Didn't expect a video this week on top of the sick week content. Thank you for making a guys Friday night!!
Amen!!
💯
You see he is an O'Reilly ad, only ad I approve
318 r bulletproof
I want it
An hour of the good ol’ revival stuff everyone’s been asking for and it’s dropped while the guy’s on Sick Week. What a legend.
Thinking the same thing. Like how many Dereks are there??
@@High_Caliber We are all Derek! 🤯🚙🔧⚙
Willie tapper??? Probably
@@modelcarswithglen. especially after a couple wobble pops 🤣 You're one of the few to realize, Glen. Nice lol
Just what I need, my vavorite car rescuers (as if I watched anybody else) I miss these, thanks Derek. You are my super hero.🙂
You had me on the floor laughing while you were driving the Dodge in the rain. I don't know how I missed this episode. It was great.
This man has made 27.67 hours of content working on old cars, and I’ve yet to hear him say the word ‘carburetor’ once
What's a carburetor??? It's a fuel make it happener!
Sorry ut he just called it a carburetor. Lol
Yep 50min in... the notorious carburetor word
The technical term is "Fuel-Make It- Happener".
Technically 'Fuel- Make it- Happener'
I gotta tell you, I love seeing Bentley involved so much and trusting him to drive the rig into place once in the barn is sign of growing competence in the young feller.
The panic on Derek's face for those brief seconds when he was trying to negotiate that corner that came up and bit on him made the whole video. Excellent content my friend. Been wanting this for a little while now. Love these resurrection videos. She's a pretty rig and she deserves to be fixed up.
Thanks for watching Darrell
Love your humor man👍 I got a old 85 dodge d150 stepside the original euc box still works.. thanks for keeping the old cars alive
@@ViceGripGarage i missed the old Monte Carlo video ill try to catch that one i had a 79 Monte
1:06:21 I think we've all been there a time or two! 😀😮
@@beedalton9675 I liked the '79's also. 👌
I was also the TV remote channel changer in my house until around the mid 1980s. I was the TV on-off make it happener as well.
There's just something about about watching people bring back to life these older vehicles that makes for a relaxing after work activity. Doesnt hurt when the host is as chill and easy going as Bob Ross. Thanks for the awesome vids.
While not a truck my family had an old Plymouth Volare station wagon when I was a kid - from 1990 and didnt get rid of it till 2012 - and we used it for pretty much everything. Towing a small popup, hauling yard trash, you name it - it was our truck. Those older cars / trucks will keep on going forever so long as you take care of them

watched 1970's car tv ads on utube the 1974 ford country squiew with the magic 3 way open rear door even opens when window up was cool then it showed the rear seat next to that door facing backwards hope it locks from the driver
I have a 94 f150, was gonna go to the junkyard if I didn't dump 4k into it, she's ready for the highway
That kick down, sudden corner and grabbing brake is the first time I have ever seen worry on your face in any of your test runs. Love your videos .
We got our 1st TV in about 1948. It was a 7" Motorola that weighed about 50 pounds. We had a rabbit ears antenna and in addition to the on/off volume and channel changer we also had brightness, contrast, horizontal hold and vertical hold. We only got 2 channels, but with all the adjustments I stayed pretty busy!
It's great to go back in the timeline of VGG and watch stuff I haven't seen. Thanks Derek.
When you hit the brake and did the hard right my cold snock flew straight out my nose I laughed so hard….. These revivals are priceless…. Best RUclipsr in the business…. I watch a lit but yours are head and shoulders over the rest… You keep pumpin ‘em out and I’ll keep watching
For sure the best on RUclips..........gor my nephew, brother and dad watching his videos since the Buick riv video....
😂🤣
Old truck archeology is always so much fun with Derek!
My dad had a 78 adventurer-er club cab, short box. I loved that old truck! He parked it for a while after the trans started slipping. I went to school and came home and it was gone, he sold it to a junkyard! Made me sick because the short box club cab is pretty rare to find. Yes! I was a human remote as well ! 😆
Best channel on RUclips! Love the cars, love your down home presentation and knowledge. Added bonus for me, I grew up in the area of Tennessee you’re in. I get excited on your test drives spotting places I recognize. Keep up the good work, and thanks for taking me back home now and then
I know this probably seems quite basic but watching these videos inspired me to do all my own servicing on my motorbike. So rewarding. Thank you.
His videos made me start taking lld scooters that people say won't work... And make them gitty up again. 👍🤠
That's a sweet truck! Those 318's are bullet proof, glad to see you doing some mopars for a change...
Haven't seen him do a single Oldsmobile yet.....kind of waiting till he does!! LOL!! They are a "different animal" and the internals!!
@@gregbenwell6173 he did a Grand National which is pretty much an Olds.
Loved your diagnostic reference @ 38:10!!! I am one and laughed my butt off when you said it. I am also an old hillbilly mechanic from Missouri which is why I love your channel. I was definately used as a TV remote via ViceGrips on the broken knob as well as holding the coat hanger antenna! Keep up the good work... 🤠
Dad had a '75 powerwagon ext'd cab long bed 4x4 440. I've had a 74 d-100 ext cab long bed 360, a '75 Bicentennial tribute d-100 std. cab short bed w/225 3-spd, a'79 d-100 std cab long bed 360, and an '86 d-150 std cab short bed 225 3spd. Loved them all. Thank you for this content ❤
I had a 1978 D150 Adventurer with a 400 C.I. engine that had a tool box built into the drinker side bed. The Adventurer was the top of the line dodge truck with power steering and brakes, air conditioning, CB radio, etc, etc. 0-60 in 5 seconds, beat a corvette on the expressway one time. He was not a happy camper........Had it for nearly 20 yrs.
400's even with low compression were torque monsters...not much horsepower...but they would pull.
@@lukepokrajac1057 A friend I know has a 1976 model. Has the 318 V8 engine and V8 engines are known for power.

I'm sure you did have a 0-60 in 5 seconds Dodge truck.👀👀👀🙄
Probably one of my favorite test drives to date. Had me cracking up. Love the old Dodges. Looking forward to part two of this revival.
same here
Same! We couldn't stop laughing. It was hysterical!
At 49:19...I never saw a mopar start that well when they were daily driven! My grandparents had a 71 Newport...hated rainy days. Sunny ones weren't that great either! Thank you for what you do!
Great trucks Derek, It's called a 1st Gen, and the starter you put on was introduced in 1988 on production trucks., Known as DENSO mini starters, half the size, twice the power.
1972-1993 was 3rd generation dodge ram. It's not a 1st gen.
@@DieselAddict-vs9fc - This truck (1977) is a 3rd-Gen D Series, but not a RAM. They were not named RAM trucks until the end of 1980. Dodge kept the same model D & W trucks marketed as RAM trucks from 81 until the 93 design change.
This truck is a 3rd Gen D Series truck, not a RAM.
"There's something really wro... WAS THAT A DAMN PEACOCK!?!" Classic! lmao. Also loved how ur kid steers on in and does a great job up the ramp then gives his opinion on how it drives. Never see kids get involved like this anymore.

Definitely took notes on adding the milage on my oil filter on my two rigs. Helps a feller out when going back and forth between them
That old Dodge really put a smile on my face. Growing up on the farm my dad had a 1979 dodge 150 power wagon adventure package. Learned to drive in that old truck. It was the exact same color as well.
Yes sir! I was a remote control, frequency programmer, and a tin foil installation mechanic. Didn't realize a guy wore so many hats back then. Excellent video as usual!!
And a "go outside" antenna turner, which was always more fun when it was raining or freezing, especially at night.
Yep! I was a little human tv remote for our 10 inch black and white TV with the separate uhf and vhf knobs. Haven't thought about that for years! Thanks for blasting me into the past Derek.
I'm 66. I retired more than half a century ago from my T.V. remote career. We were a Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge family too. Lots of memories in these trucks. I have two 82 d150s today. One is a step-side short-bed . They both have slantsix's and 3 speeds w/O.D. Thanks! Good Memories!

Be a goin to town rig in no time!

Yep - I hear you on the "I was used as a dang old TV remote for many many years of my young life...".
My favorite channel, I watch at least one episode a night. Love this guy!
I LOVED how you commented on that new carb being "made in China, so you know it's good"... then followed by a moment of silence and accompanied by a blank stare on your face!! I get the same damn feeling every time I go buy replacement parts for my rig!!
Me too! That was absolute comedy gold from Derek!
I've come to enjoy this channel so much over the years that when i heard "was that a peacock???" strangely it seemed like a completely normal thing to hear. Thanks for the hard work, enjoyment, and enthusiasm you bring to this this channel Derek. I just happened to be watching this while i was swapping out the ignition switch in my 2nd gen RAM 2500 and it really made the whole job seem to go much easier knowing there was another feller out there wrenchin on a Dodge.
Yes Sir! I was the go-to remote control for channel & volume manipulation for much of my early years.. I also earned an advanced degree in rabbit ear adjustment and foil wing installation to improve reception.
I had an 83 Dodge royal with a 318 and it ran rough at idle and a friend told me to try running seafoam in the gas and a couple cans over a couple week's fixed it, I was shocked and drove it for a few years, even the a/c worked, love them old dodge trucks, great job Derek, it's a keeper!😊
Derek, this is the 2nd time I've watched this vid.
I rebuilt a 1977 M884 military power wagon Communitions vehicle with a 318. This thing had 2 batteries and 2 altinaternators. The wiring was nuts! My son, being a Mopar mechanic supplied me with a roller cam and lifter kit to rebuild the 318. Boy was this a going to town rig. However, the front axle was positive one. This is why they called it a troop killer.
But wow, it was a tough SOB.
Thank again for sharing.
IE, my VGG cap is great....thanks Jessi.
I'd love to see this Dodge come back to life as a daily driver.
It's a go to town truck for sure and a keeper!
Damn, in America you can easily daily drive car like this one? I mean, in europe every car older than 1990 is super classic and needs special treatment. Parts are very expansive and rare..
@@dominik7014 you could daily drive a truck like this as long as you didn't go on the highway. These old trucks are SUPER easy to work on and parts can be hard to find but when you do they're not expensive. As long as you pick a common car/truck, old cars can work fine for dailies.
@@dominik7014I'm sure a lot of it is difference in parts available. GM literally,(really literally) 100 million small block Chevy motors. So there are millions of used parts and millions of aftermarket parts for those cars. Mopar and Ford's sold tens of millions of certain things too. In Europe, you guys barely have any cars except Morris Minors or Mini's.😆
Wasn’t not expecting a revival! Glad to see one. You’re really pumping out the content, that’s a ton of work man we appreciate it
I was not expecting this either, but I bet this was shot and edited before Sick week, and he held onto it then either uploaded it the past day or so, or already had it up, just scheduled to drop today before he left town. But yes, fun to view.

Thanks Derek for being a man with integrity. I thought that was great that you wanted to apologize and make it right with the owner of the driveway. Most guys would have just said “it’s OK it’s muddy anyway. Your parents and grandparents have taught you well. Your passing it on to your boys. Thanks!

I can't believe how strait the grill is. I had two of those late 70 Dodges and a strong wind would bend them. LOL
No smoke 318s where great engines.
Yes I was a TV remote when i was young.

That's usually all that's left of an old Dodge truck, the motor.
The front bumper is mint .I just can't get over that.I really like those Trucks 72 to 93 only though. Metal door handles, lots of leg room. AGREED 👍

Your Channel is hands down the most enjoyable automotive content I have ever seen. Its even better than roadkill. Love it man, keep it up.
VGG is #1 Puddin is a close second :)
I would love to see more on this old rig, old Dodge trucks from the 70’s are great! I got a 78 been working and this was just up my alley!!!
I got a 78 D100 Ol' Slanter 6 ..she's my favorite! Hauls my big Harley the back of the 8ft bed to Gatlinburg to play in the mountains...Great truck! Just started watching your videos. My Dad introduced me to this channel and I get a kick out of your projects my man! Be safe
The brake parts for a D series half-ton are dirt cheap & very easy to work on & the PS/front end work is pretty basic stuff too, but that rust out looks to be fairly extensive. So, i'd consider that to be a great parts/donor truck having many of the sought after parts for a 77/78/79 "tin-grill" D100/D150 and/or Adventurer, intact.
Started watching your channel Derek for almost 2 years now. I was always into cars and wanted an old classic.
Finally after enough binge watching the videos. I ended up getting my mitts on a 1965 Galaxie 500 LTD. Sat 16 plus years.
Got her running in a week of owning it. Was driving it earlier last year. Decided to pull it apart and redo/repaint and get rid if any rust I find. First project car. But very solid. Keep up the great work!
Hell yeah, 65 was the best year for the Galaxy in my opinion. I got a 67 country sedan wagon (the galaxy/ltd style wagon) that I have dreams of getting back on the road but she is real rough. I did get my Gramps 1980 F150 Ranger rollin again this year, after sittin for 10+ years after he died. +1 in all that. Puts a smile on a guys face.
I've driven vehicles with brakes dragging and shocks/tires messed up like that many times. You can tell when these magazine journalists test drive a Mustang or a Camaro and talk about how "bad" the handling is, they've never had the good fortune to get into a rig like this and have to learn to drive around it because they got nothing else to get them around.
I just wrecked my 75 Adventurer Sport 440, loved that truck with all my heart. I'm getting my grandpa's 84 Ram 250 next. Hasn't run in at least 15ish years, haven't even seen it in 20. You can bet I'm gonna have a bucket of Derek quotes at my side the whole time I'm getting them back on the road.
You selling anything off the 75? I'm trying to build one on a very tight budget. I swapped the 318 for a 440 big block too. I really need a dash pad and door panels. And of course window regulators and seals. My truck literally had no rubber left anywhere when I bought it. It's coming too slowly though.

@@christophermosley that's awesome. Mine is a 77 D100 short wheel base utiline with a cammed 360. I got it when I was 16 as my first truck. Drove it a few more months and then it started having issues and had to get something more reliable for college commute. It's been off the road for almost 14 years now but I try and crank it every couple of years to keep the engine from seizing. Wish I could do it more but it's always a task to get it fired up these days. Hoping you're turns out well sir!

Excellent episode on that mopar. I was my dad's favorite remote when the wire to the TV would not work. Love to see the brake job completed on that rig. That 318 sounds great.
definitely worth repairing. that is definitely a very well optioned truck. you don't see those factory cb radio's or sunroofs much. you likely just need some new wiper linkage bushings. they are plastic and it is common for them to fail with age.

It is my absolute favorite!
Derrick you are very talented genius, in many different ways😂
"Was that a dang Peacock" Things id never think id hear Derek say. Love this guy. Hes such a good person and has a great personality.
A couple ideas for you from my experience with a 1985. Police car intakes are fun, you can't get jets for the original carburetors so don't ever drill them out. I put a spread bore Holey on mine, even though it was way over-sized for a 318...still just about popped a front tire off the ground. You may be able to get 10 degrees static timing at idle, anything more will pre-detonate. Remove the passenger side exhaust manifold with the rusted out bi-metallic spring, you will only boil the carburetor with the cross-over heat. Replace it with a driver's side manifold. Oh, and check the frame for cracks under the steering box, they are notorious for that.
This is info that I needed. Awesome
@@kevinpelesky5467 Lol, which part? It was a pain in the rear living in an emissions regulated county and trying to maintain one.

Love those trucks! I'm in the process of restoring/hot rodding my '78 that I bought when i was in high school.
I'll soon be 68 years old (at the end of July). Not only was I the t.v. remote, but had to wade thru 2" shag carpet to get to the t.v. - good memories for sure! LOL
Would love to see you do the brakes all the way around, bleed 'em, fix the headlights so they're both bright, service the trans and drive the ol' Adventurer 150 once in awhile. Maybe a guy could even more permanently fix the poor man's A/C vent in the cab roof too.
I would actually like to see the "recovery operation" too.
@@richparker3048 Don't spare the gritty details--I think this is one thing that sets you apart from the "evolved" car repair shows.
I had the same truck, a '77 with the 400. Check the frame around the steering box for cracks, I think they're notorious for breaking there.
Same on two different Dodge trucks of the 70's flavor. Uncle was first to find issue after he scrapped the first one. He is mopar fanatic and absolutely loves the 318ci. We have an 82 3/4 ton we are fixing up this spring and summer. Amazingly rust free for its age.
Either that, or something is amiss with the steering box, or both.
Got a Lil Red that has those cracks..it's a darn shame

I for one would love to see this fixed up as a daily driver. Minus the small amount of rust, it has great potential.
Agreed...nice little sport truck
also agreed. Great little truck for goin ta town!
Great and informative video. It encouraged Dad and I to get my blue 77 dodge d150 out and running again. Tinkered on it for 5 hrs today. Runs great but also needs a fuel pump. 👍
Love those old 318 dodge motors they were great engines during that era. Probably a ton of those old classics that could be revived. It’s awesome that Derick saves these old cars from the scrap yard. When I was a teenager did a lot of cruising around in a 318 satellite. It never failed to run.
would love to see it completed The engine sounds good I think it would be great to see what you could do with it. You do not see a whole lot of the old ones like this running down the road
