Even today you learn from older videos.... Good stuff!!

After seeing the yellow/green tint on your video made me think that you might not know what you're talking about, but there were a couple of good tips. I hear that the CF card is going out of production to make room for a new card now.
4:35 Don't recommend this to people highly. Because of video like yours I listened advise and setup mic to manual, then I went to Fremont Street (Las Vegas) free concert and I damned this manual settings to hell! I had a headphone buds, which I couldn't hear from a damn thing. When I checked video at the concert pause I was so furious, that sound come out unusable disturbed and rattled. At first I blamed external mic which I set to 0 dB, so I set it to -10dB. Same story. I thought my mic is defective, but then I remembered that mic camera settings was set to manual and I switch to Auto. I finally was able to record the rest of concert without overloaded cracked sound. Make a note that this advise of yours is good for quiet room interview only.
I always wondered why this channel was called Ditch Auto. I couldn't figure out the automotive connection. Now watching this video you talk about ditching automatic mode, I now get it. :-)
thanks so much actually i am study photography now in fresno city college and I bought canon 5D mark IV from 5 month ago but i still need more information about this camera thanks for your video
Good video. Very clearly presented. One suggestion would've just been to include some conversation regarding the recommendation to use a 180 degree shutter angle in order to get the most natural looking footage when recording, depending on your frame rate. In any case, good job!
Jerad, very good video. Two questions: 1) Does the 5DM4 record in slow motion. I think I heard you indicate that if shooting vid at High Frame Rate, slow motion could be recorded. 2) I don't quite understand shooting and recording and displaying pictures (not vid) in B&W. I want to record the image in color, but I want to view it either in the viewfinder or on the LCD in B&W. I did read in the manual that if shooting in B&W and recording in JPEG, images cannot be converted to B&W. Lastly, if I set the Picture Style to Monochrome, I see the image is displayed via LCD in B&W, but is it recording only monochrome (B&W) on the CF card (no the SD card), or is it recording color and I'm just seeing B&W on the LCD?
How do you get the video to continue for more than 30 minutes? At the 30 minute mark it shuts off and I have to hit the record button for it to work again.
Great video! I have a question I would love an answer to, I can find almost nothing in my research. I have this camera and the 24-70 2.8 ii and the 70-200 2.8. I'm a photographer so I love this set up. However, in getting into video and I really don't want to manually focus cause I don't know how and I film a lot of action. So how do I get rid of the auto focus noise? It's over bearing with the 24-70. I was looking into options, and it seems all L glass is noisy? I was wishing I could use the 18-135 nano, but that doesn't work with full frame? I would love a 24-105 but I think that's pretty noisy as well? My only other option is 40 or 50mm prime? I don't really want a prime for my run and gun video. Also, I thought of getting the rhode Mic, but I heard this still doesn't take care of it. Any suggestions and links to products you suggest?
I have found only one way: use STM lenses. They are not expensive but of course they are not as good as L lenses. I almost always use a cheapo 18-55 STM and it's fine. I also have an 80-250 STM lens. With non-STM, I use a 6-foot extension or more extension cable for the external mic where that is feasible. That works OK.
Hello, you say that we wont be able to use fast SD cards, but you mentioned the SanDisk SD card 128 Gb. Will we be able to use that one? That card is able to record 4k video, it says so in the package. Can you please clarify?
Recording at 4K you will only have one format, MOV. MOV is a hog on storage because it is uncompressed not like MP4 (compressed) which you will only get at 1080p on this camera.
So all the CF cards I looked at they have a write speed of 120 to 150 Mbs, but My Sd card extream pro 256Gb card has a 170Mbs write speed witch is cheaper than CF and 4k video works great, so why would I need a CF card?
Hi thanks for your explanations. I've the exact same CF card as you. I've parasites on the video, not much but definitively too much. any clue ? No problem with the SD card
It depends. I really like the 50mm lens for portraits but I find myself using an 85mm more often because I like the way my subjects look. A wider lens can make their face look wider. If you are only going to do portraits, I would go with a 70mm lens over a 50mm.
Hi, thanks a lot for this video, very interesting. I have a question: you have a 50mm on your camera on this video. Do you record with it or is it better to use a zoom lens? Do you have more recording options when you are using a 24-70mm for example? Thank you!
+farfalletta84 really comes down to personal preference. I prefer to shoot with prime lenses because I like the look it gives to the footage. Zoom lenses are definitely more practical but they don't really produce any extra options other than giving you the ability to zoom in and out without moving.
Thanks for showing how to shoot the video. Now the question is, what do I have to do to be able to edit a 4K video made with it and share it on youtube? Now I can take any HD video straight out of any camera, into my iMac iMovie and boom it's edited and uploaded. From the looks of things so far, I can't find anything available to process 4K quickly out of the 5Div. Can you steer me in the right direction for the answer? Thanks.
Hope you can help. I use this camera for shooting short videos. My SD card is a V30 at 95MBs. I constantly get an error message where the camera stops recording and I get a big error box that says Camera Automatically Shut Off. I imagine it's a setting problem but can't figure it out. Any help is appreciated.
How I can setup my camera for 5 minutes of video recording and after 5 minutes it create new video. so later it will have multiple files with 5 minutes duration.
i've switched auto-iso mode off when taking stills; however, when making a movie i see that iso speed changes depending on where i point the camera. is there any way to turn auto iso off when i make a movie?
Hi Jerad nice video - in my menu when i toggle through the menu to MOV REC QUALITY - in MOV I do't have the options available you have with 60fps etc - any ideas what I'm missing ?
THANKS !!! I took my camera to Canon service centre it took them two days to get back to me and tell me the same thing ... but they have kept it to do a full blown check on it as the autofocus seems to give me a reading its in focus then produce a less than sharp image. I've gone back to the 5d mark 3 in the meantime and added ML finally with focus peaking - game changer. Makes you wonder what's going on in the minds of Canon not keeping up with the technology of today. My Sony A7s mark2 kills the Canon for performance. I just Love the old film look that the Canon produces straight out of the camera with my Zeiss primes. But this maybe the last Canon I buy in truth, sadly.
There are two video format systems. If you're in Australia your camera would most likely be set to PAL giving the options of 25fps and 50fps. If you're in America say, it's more likely to be set to NTSC which gives you more options. Hope this helps!
great job, thanks. I have a pet prejudice: why in the world do serious videographers use dlsr's? Seriously. All they do is limit themselves. One tiny example: no way to pause/continue recordings. Buy a CAMCORDER. They are made for video. And can provide 100x more options, and can be half as expensive as, say, my 5d mark 4. I just don't get it.
AWESOME VIDEO JARED !! I am looking for another Canon SLR to shoot my video events with and I think I have settled on the Canon 80D. If I could afford the 5D mark 4, I would get it. I would love to shoot in full frame but I'm going to settled for the cooped sensor. Please fill free to visit my youtube page and take a look at my work. Thanks again Jared !

Fresno is right down the road from me.

You are amazing
Sandisk Extreme 95 mbps SD card works for 4k video.
this was very helpful thank you
Ditch auto but also lovin that Servo Auto Focus
Jerad, I need my lens back for my own 5D MKIV that's coming tomorrow from B&H

I'm trying to format a 128 GB card. It is taking so long the battery is dying. Worked fine with a 28GB card. (?) thank you
Really enjoyed this video! Very informative and straight to the point. Thank you!
Thanks for taking the time to make this video! Very helpful and to the point.
Beautiful bro

Hey, thanks a lot for this great video. Which Rode Microphone do you recommend for Canon 5D Mark IV actually?

It's helpfull for me.. thanks
the automatic follow focus, does it work even if i moved the camera toward the object i am shooting or it only works if the the object is moving ??
Does servo AF need to be actuated as you would if you were shooting live action or is it automatically activated when you go into video mode?
how do I take a picture while in the video mode, I can't seem to be able to

Well considering you're using iMovie I wouldn't have much confidence. Use Premier Pro or Final cut at least man...
What is the video dynamic range on this camera? 13 stops?
Hope you can help. I use this camera for shooting short videos. My SD card is a V30 at 95MBs. I constantly get an error message where the camera stops recording and I get a big error box that says Camera Automatically Shut Off. I imagine it's a setting problem but can't figure it out. It’s likely overheating or you have a bad memory card. I would first try another memory card and make sure to format it in the camera.
What is the term mean wash the blacks in video editing?
You are a great person. Thank You...
Hello: Is the Auto ISO in movie mode stepless? Thanks!
best options for stabilization?
Probably the Ronin S. I use that gimbal often for larger setups and it just works.
How I can setup my camera for 5 minutes of video recording and after 5 minutes it create new video. so later it will have multiple files with 5 minutes duration.
What hard drive I can get at a budget to save my footage from this camera?
Great review, I will check out the course at Udemy, thank you!
i've switched auto-iso mode off when taking stills; however, when making a movie i see that iso speed changes depending on where i point the camera. is there any way to turn auto iso off when i make a movie?
How do I display SD Card info for video recording ? Thanks
Please tell me 5d mark 4 camera slow motion with 4K recording how to
Hi JERAD ...are you still in business????
You didn't put your SD card suggestions in the description.
Thanks for checking in. I've added links to the cards that we use when shooting with the 5D Mk IV
+Mohammad Tavakoli Sorry about that. They have been added now.
you didn't put your mic suggestions in the description
Ditch Aut
Nice
Hi Jerad nice video - in my menu when i toggle through the menu to MOV REC QUALITY - in MOV I do't have the options available you have with 60fps etc - any ideas what I'm missing ?
Same for me! Any suggestions? Maybe it depends what memory card we have in the camera... Strange...
Resolved! I had to switch from PAL to NTSC
THANKS !!!

It was a PAL versus NTSC switch to fix that.
thank you for the but on the movie record size i only had 5 option and not 110fps max was 50fps

Maybe you could have mentioned that the files are 5-10 as large as with other cameras (same quality), effectively making it useless for 4k video.
It is all about editing! It is easier for pc! :)
Thank you in 2020
Hi there , MY 5D mKIV has only 1080p @50fps and 720p @100 fps but its supposed to be 59.94 and 720p at 120 right ? why is it so please Help . Thanks
Subir Thapa same for me
Go to the SET UP 3 Menu (3rd page of the yellow menu) and change your video system from PAL to NTSC
Why is mine only 25 and 50 FPS? Seems very unusual...

1:38 can anyone have the same issue, mine doesn't have the 8 options, only 4

I can't get the 120 fps, please help i only can select the 100fps :-( what did i do..
If you don't know yet you're shooting in PAL to get 120 you have to format camera to NTSC. NTSC is for amrica only, the rest of the world uses PAL.
Try switching from pal to NTSC
sir do you have used canon 5d m4 camera . i need sir
👍👍👍👍👍
Step one, return the camera. Step two, instead buy a canon c-100 mk ii.
Left out AF method
thank you
