This is some amazing television programming you are brilliant very witty and very entertaining to watch. I think you are a true British treasure and if you’re not you really should be regarded as such in your country. You are doing so much for narrow boating.
Oh dear. I've been watching your vlogs from the beginning whilst having my lunch & I've finally caught up! Thank you .... I'll have to find someone else to have lunch with now!
Thank you David for a very relaxing evening video. While boating in the sunshine is the best, boating in rain is still better than being in an office. Take care.
We used to live vicariously through your vlogs before we bought our own boat! Still enjoy watching them now, great film work and we are liking the new talking while filming, instead of the voice overs. :)
Here in the US we don't have these wonderful canals but we do have some massive man-made reservoirs with thousands of miles of coves to explore :) if you ever get the chance I would recommend you take a look at Lake of the Ozarks, Lake Powell and Lake Havasu! they are stunningly beautiful with huge marinas full of mansion-sized houseboats that make my little 10x35 catamaran look like a rubber duck!
Very good series, it has opened my eyes to livening on a narrow boat, and motivated me into researching into it but the earlyst I can consider buying and licenseing etc would be into next year also it would be dependent on selling a property after the holidays. I may pop down to my local marina this week and have a chat.
Had a similar concrete ledge problem on the Coventry, I've now got a couple of go cart tyres which I've filled with spray foam, they work well to keep the boat further out.
Another nice video David, thanks for that, you have a really pleasant- and clear way of showing your journey's to all of us followers. There can, and will always be places where it's too easy to get your mooring spikes in the ground, and other places where it's almost impossible like in this video between 1:16 and 1:34 where the spike had to find a place in the concrete. If you want to stand the best chance for it to stay in, and not be ripped-out by a too fast passing boat, it would be a good idea to fix your mooring line as close to the ground as possible, instead of attaching it to the ring at the top, to reduce the force on the spike. Atb, Peter.
Nice of you to be able to share your locky life with some guests. I am sure that they will enjoy the leisurely pace and beautiful scenery, riding in a lock and stalking the occasional heron.
You may find that the reason your reception improved when you moved your aerial was because the steel edge of the roof helps to concentrate wireless transmissions, in a similar way that old fashioned TV aerials had a reflector. and a series of concentrators. I recently saw a widebeam canal boat, with a fully enclosed wheelhouse, which seemed far more ergonomic, and logical, than the usual archaic narrowboat open platform.😊 .
van and boat busy busy what's next ha ha. You mentioned you're visiting the Gower sometime with your van. Hope you remembered that the lanes down there are very narrow. Good luck.
I love your videos David. So calming... I dont have a narrowboat myself and I will probably never have... but watching your channel is very close to having a boat and cruising about. I also tried to check the maps on where are you. Maybe more review on the location could be added to your vids? I mean adding a clip of a map showing your progress... Looking forward to the next video! All the best from Prague, Czech Republic.
Some of the Herons fly off a few yards because they wait for the boat to scare unsuspecting fish down towards them where they are waiting. Then they have a chance to ambush the fish. I've witnessed it a few times. They are pretty cunning for water birds.
hi David saw you in the Canal Boat magazine today waiting to see the GP. it was great to seeyou again . so thought id go on line to see where you are up on the boat. when I first saw you you was just setting the boat up . take care
Been watching your vlog for quite awhile now and really enjoy it. Here in the USA we cruised the Champlain canal in NY many times in our trawler on our way to Lake Champlin and always enjoyed going thru the locks. Twelve as i recall some many miles apart and a boat lift of twenty feet or more in places. Your voice is very pleasing to listen to along with the rhythm of the engine, carry-on.
Thanks for the ride. I can't wait before I'm able to come over and cruise your canals in a hire boat. In Sweden, where I live, we have very few canals, the longest is Göta Kanal also known as the divorce ditch.
Interestingly, I was never interested in weather forecasts in UK, and now I check every little bit if its going to rain to raise water levels:) Nice video!
4:06 I really like those cottagey sort of apartments but I guess they'd be hella expensive. I'm getting really greedy for real estate when I watch your videos because there's so many pretty places to live 😂😂 as you might say I'm gonna need to win a bigger lottery
Lovely cruise, those three turbines were in reasonably open county there so again the wind could hit them, the Herons may not like the sound of the motor
Thanks for this, I do quite a bit of walking around the two Arms and the Reservoirs and had wondered why I haven’t seen many boats moored where you moored, so now I know. I guess the canal bank is reinforced due to the reservoir water just above the canal. Disappointed to hear your comment about leaky locks as the pound above where you were moored has been drained in the last year for works. One of the best lock cottages is a little above where you moored and you could even give it a try, it does b&b. Can recommend the cafe at your first lock.
5:55 That canal cottage has a particularly fine central stack, which when in full use will keep the house warm unstoked until well into the following forenoon.
I love Ivinghoe top locks and Horton locks I come here now and again and go on lovley walks there i love the canal from church lock to bulbourne I love the doubled arch bridges my favourites are 121 and 122 as there always quiet spots and lovley lock cottages I went for a walk there on fathers day
After the latest Windows 10 update, I can now scroll down from a RUclips FULL SCREEN and click 'Like' and scroll back up still full screen which is great! Now that solves the previous problem of not being able to click 'Like' while being in full screen which I mentioned in one of your vlogs.
Once again another nicely chilled out vlog. As quite a few of your last vlogs have you using wide locks on your own I am intrigued as to how you do this both rising and descending. It just seems to me to be a difficult process due to getting on and off your boat. Perhaps you could film the process as a bonus vlog. 😃
Tongue in Cheek - I am not sure if anyone else has mentioned this or even sees it but I find an uncanny resemblance between you and Benedict Cumberbatch and when I watch your video's I can't help thinking ” why is Sherlock Holmes cruising the canals and not tracking down Professor Moriarty “ or “ why is Dr. Strange traveling the canals at 5 MPH and not battling some villain “. Well I guess even a super hero needs some quiet time. :) All the Best Bill
Have you tried your mobile network ariel in the middle of the roof as any metal under it will act as a good base plate and boost it. In the deserts of Africa we used to lay on the bonnet to get a signal.. :)
Who knew that at the age of 46 I would find my own version of Thomas the Train that I would like to watch.
I really enjoy your videos, i feel like I’m traveling through the country with you. Thank you for the adventure. From New Jersey USA.
I really enjoy your comments on the birds.
This is some amazing television programming you are brilliant very witty and very entertaining to watch. I think you are a true British treasure and if you’re not you really should be regarded as such in your country. You are doing so much for narrow boating.
I really enjoy your blogs. you sound like you are having fun. Thank you!
9:57 I love the dog's black ear it is so precious! I also like how amusement just creeps into your voice at the unperturbed ducks lol
Oh dear. I've been watching your vlogs from the beginning whilst having my lunch & I've finally caught up! Thank you .... I'll have to find someone else to have lunch with now!
Hahahaha
Great job on piloting the canals!
Haha thanks. It makes editing a lot quicker and easier :-)
When ever watching him do the locks. I can't help but think "Dang! That gotta be good for the Cardio :P"
Sounds like Saturday will be beautiful day. Life is much more interesting with everyone different.
Such beautiful scenery-I can see why you enjoy the narrow boat life. Thanks for sharing this.
That was a great little ride. Made me sleepy.
Thanks for the ride.
Chris from Missouri
Been watching several of you Narrow Boaters, for a few years now, ya'll work very hard, relaxing on the canals...
That is an amazing chimney arrangement on that ivy covered cottage. The entire center of the house must be one big fireplace. Nice vlog, thanks.
Another Great Video David, Keep up the good work!
Very enjoyable as always David. Cheers
Very good series, it has opened my eyes to livening on a narrow boat, and motivated me into researching into it but the earlyst I can consider buying and licenseing etc would be into next year also it would be dependent on selling a property after the holidays. So...we see you 'tripping the lock fantastic' with the fast-motion tending. More 'fancy footwork' around the locks is coming!
Had a similar concrete ledge problem on the Coventry, I've now got a couple of go cart tyres which I've filled with spray foam, they work well to keep the boat further out.
Good tip. I have extra wide 'mooring' fenders just for such cases!
Another nice video David, thanks for that, you have a really pleasant- and clear way of showing your journey's to all of us followers.

I loved following along on lock work today!
always enjoy your videos, thank you!
Nice one David great vlog as per usual.. Thanks
Lovely journey. Enjoyed the trip through locks 38 and 37 - super camera work. Great video. Thanks David
Easily my favourite vlog title so far! Well punned sir!
I don't get it, or is it a british culture thingy?
What a pleasant surprise to see Julian 😀
They would have to be some of the prettiest cottages I have yet seen.
The only word that comes to mind is idyllic! Thank you for such beautiful scenery videos. Very nice.
I bet it's fab when you get up and it's chucking it down and you think "Do you know what I think I'll stay here today".
It absolutely is
TX David love the vlog.
Love the title! You are the Master of pun vlog titles. Loved the scenery - it all looked so peaceful. Thank you
Nice of you to be able to share your locky life with some guests. I am sure that they will enjoy the leisurely pace and beautiful scenery, riding in a lock and stalking the occasional heron.
Another wonderful video, would be great to catch some of the banter you have between other narrowboat captains as you pass.
You may find that the reason your reception improved when you moved your aerial was because the steel edge of the roof helps to concentrate wireless transmissions, in a similar way that old fashioned TV aerials had a reflector. and a series of concentrators.
I recently saw a widebeam canal boat, with a fully enclosed wheelhouse, which seemed far more ergonomic, and logical, than the usual archaic narrowboat open platform.😊
.
Thank you David, another relaxing slice of canal life :-)
van and boat busy busy what's next ha ha. You mentioned you're visiting the Gower sometime with your van. Hope you remembered that the lanes down there are very narrow. Good luck.
Just come back - and they really are really narrow!!
I love your videos David. So calming... I dont have a narrowboat myself and I will probably never have... but watching your channel is very close to having a boat and cruising about. Hi, there are location links in each video description to Google maps :-)
One thing that is unique about your videos are the titles you give them sometimes they can be rather funny
Thanks David , usual good standard. I think that dog was barking at you !
He was by the time I got close enough to film but as I approached, before I had the camera in range, he was going mad at the ducks!
Some of the Herons fly off a few yards because they wait for the boat to scare unsuspecting fish down towards them where they are waiting. Then they have a chance to ambush the fish. I've witnessed it a few times. They are pretty cunning for water birds.
Great stuff as usual very relaxing, thanks😊
Worst title pun ever!😂 Another good vlog David. I always get a buzz when I get a notification for a new "Cruising the Cut" video.
Another pastoral trip. I do like the subtitle of each vlog. Thank you.
Yey...I saw my boat in this vlog...just :-)
Very enjoyable video, as always. There was a lot of lovely scenery to enjoy. Thanks very much for sharing it with us.
Thanks for another wonderful video. I enjoy these so much!
hi David saw you in the Canal Boat magazine today waiting to see the GP. it was great to seeyou again . so thought id go on line to see where you are up on the boat. when I first saw you you was just setting the boat up . take care

No one likes a soggy deck. Glad you were able to air it out in the sunshine. HOY! You're killing me. :-P
enjoyed as always
Nice one David.👍
Thanks for the ride. I can't wait before I'm able to come over and cruise your canals in a hire boat. In Sweden, where I live, we have very few canals, the longest is Göta Kanal also known as the divorce ditch.
I love those cottages. I could be quite happy there. Great vlog.
Thanks for your continuing vlogs. I meant to mention that your last one was episode 150! Great work. BTW, beware the "grassy knoll!"
Been thinking about jacking the job in and getting a boat...this is really convincing me.
Steady now, don't do anything rash!!
If it feels right do it !!! Life is what happens when you are busy making other plans !!!! Life is all about adventures!!
Lovely video, but just a black coffee for this one. Thanks for a relaxing break from work!
Thanks for the quick cruise.
Just binged watched about 50 of your vlogs. Awesome. I’d like to see some videos in bad weather, mostly rain. I RV In the USA and love the rain!
Ah but filming and boating in the rain is a pain :-(
You know David your so lay back you really do run the risk of falling over. Great Video as always..
Interestingly, I was never interested in weather forecasts in UK, and now I check every little bit if its going to rain to raise water levels:) Nice video!
Seems to have been a very relaxing few days for you.
That lock cottage is very cute - positively bearded with ivy!
Thanks David. really nice video.
Greetings,, Kitty.
OOOOQEEEEE, been watchin all day on Saturday, charging the bike for a break, I'll be back... this stuff is great....
4:06 I really like those cottagey sort of apartments but I guess they'd be hella expensive. I'm getting really greedy for real estate when I watch your videos because there's so many pretty places to live 😂😂 as you might say I'm gonna need to win a bigger lottery
Like that place at 5:36 all covered in creepers
Lovely cruise, those three turbines were in reasonably open county there so again the wind could hit them, the Herons may not like the sound of the motor
I like the way you travel.
I don't trust people who don't tie their shoes correctly... I like your Cut Cruising vids indeed!!
Thanks for this, I do quite a bit of walking around the two Arms and the Reservoirs and had wondered why I haven’t seen many boats moored where you moored, so now I know. I saw the cafe but didn't get a chance to try it :-(
5:55 That canal cottage has a particularly fine central stack, which when in full use will keep the house warm unstoked until well into the following forenoon.
That sky at 09:40 is straight out of some heavy metal album cover, or a religious painting.
🌟- that narrow boat - L.N.C. Co LTD, at 11:42 came from the Lee navigation in Enfield - I also live in Enfield! 😀
4:49 That arch looked slightly unhappy. The herring was keeping an eye on it :-)
👍 thanks again !
Nice one. Maye it would be a good idea to keep a couple of larger fenders on board that you could inflate with a small hand pump when needed.
Excellent video David,i can see you moving into a lock cottage
that darn grassy knoll did it huh good video
it's Just a Flipping Knoll!
Great vid. Cheers.
They are all so pretty.
I'm sure David and his friends appreciate your compliment.
David seems a nice lad, but pretty is not a word that springs to mind when describing him!
I love Ivinghoe top locks and Horton locks I come here now and again and go on lovley walks there i love the canal from church lock to bulbourne I love the doubled arch bridges my favourites are 121 and 122 as there always quiet spots and lovley lock cottages I went for a walk there on fathers day
I am locky as you've uploaded a new video !
Hi you could use some old water bottles ( the large ones ) as a temporary mooring buffer . Hope this is a good idea for you .👍🏻😎👍🏻
I think they'd split when 15 tonnes of narrowboat press against them but a nice thought!
@7m47s: OMG!! It's Julian Ilett (in the center) !! Hi Julian !!
That spot you parked I visited the last two times I visited the UK. Both times someone was selling paintings from their boat there :)
ah I recognise Julian Ilett another RUclipsr I follow. A meeting of the interests! :-)
He's getting quite a lot of recognition in these comments, interesting how many people watch him. Nice bloke too.
I figured you had moored up for the winter and were all comfy cozy around the coal stove with a good thick novel between trips to Tesco.
I am now ;-)
After the latest Windows 10 update, I can now scroll down from a RUclips FULL SCREEN and click 'Like' and scroll back up still full screen which is great! Now that solves the previous problem of not being able to click 'Like' while being in full screen which I mentioned in one of your vlogs.
good video as always,
A few fenders from a '59 Caddy would get you the room you need:) Great video!
Another enjoyable video, thanks. You don't see many crow farms like that, or were they ravens? Good to see you have em there as well.
The trouble with filming it while doing it is .. er ... filming it while doing it, single handed. Not enough hands.
All the Best
Bill
Haha, I'll take that with pleasure!
Have you tried your mobile network ariel in the middle of the roof as any metal under it will act as a good base plate and boost it. In the deserts of Africa we used to lay on the bonnet to get a signal.. :)
It doesn’t need to be in the middle, anywhere on the metal is fine, just as I had it. If it wasn’t, it would fall off, since the base is magnetic...
That title! 😂 nice Vlog David!
For a quick minute, I thought that house in the opening shot was the same house on the cover of Black Sabbath's debut album. Lol
It must be extra cosy when the weather is horrible?
Hi another great video
5:07 "They don't seem to learn" - the bird thinks same about boaters
