- In this how to video we cover how to change your oil and filter in your 2009-2018 (4th Gen) Dodge Ram 1500 5.7l Hemi. These procedures are similar on all 2009-2018 (4th Gen) Dodge Ram 1500 pickups. We use Pennzoil Full Synthetic 5w-20, a Mopar MO-339 Oil Filter and a Fram CA9401 Engine Air Filter. We also go over the procedure to reset your oil life indicator on your 2017 Dodge Ram 1500.

Use a gallon ziploc bag over the filter when removing. Almost zero mess!

I have the same year truck. Absolutely hate where they put the filter. On my old 09 Ram the filter was so easy to get to and it even had a channel that would catch most of the oil as it drained.
It's the worst design of any vehicle I've ever owned. Why would they design it that way for the part that is literally serviced more than any other part on the truck?

Hey buddy, I just change my oil filter on my 2017 1500 ram.
Short cut to filter, take the passenger tire. It is only a foot or less away. I used a filter wrench to take it off.

He didn't show how he removed the filter that is full of oil because you generally have oil dripping off of your elbow.

What percentage was oil life indicator at before the oil change?
I did mine at 5% when it alerts you to "change oil soon"

Yea it's pricey to do an oil change now. I think I just paid about $45-50 for the last go round of oil and a filter.
Says that filter wont fit my 2017 1500 sport ? I typed same part nunber? On advance auto but on amazon it says its fits? Lol
Low oil pressure light came on my 2017 ram 1500 hemi. After replacing the oil pressure sensor it was still there. Any ideas? I'm gonna change my oil and filter too btw
I believe these had oil pump issues. I would verify you're actually getting oil pressure.
The manufacturer wants us to use syn. Blend. Have you or will you have any problems using full synthetic?

No issues. I uses Pennzoil Full Synthetic 5W-20 in both my Ram and my Jeep. Little pricey, but I'd rather use what is recommended.
ACH they recommend a blend but is used full first change. Hope it's ok
Do you regularly change your cabin air filter also?
I do, usually once or twice a year - or for me, every other oil change.
My 2018 hemi calls for a blend. I put Pennzoil full synthetic in at 2000 miles thinking it would be better then the blend what are your thoughts?
SRT has been recommending Pennzoil full synthetic 5W20 for several years in the 5.7 Charger squads
I believe both my Jeep and Ram's owners manual recommended Pennzoil full synthetic 5W20 and that is why I went with them. I did try Castrol in my Ram for a bit as I have the dreaded Hemi tick and I was trying to get rid of it. No luck on that front.
@@ACHAutomotive I'm a castrol guy my self I typically use it in all my vehicles along with mobile-1. Luv it. But being my 1st ram and getting close to its 1st oil change I've been going back n forth between the 2 smh cause I'm not a fan of penzoil but that's me
Horrible spot where they did the filter . I mean with a lift different story but doing it from the ground? No fun or easy and the damn mess. Oil travels along the front frome/cross bar and the steering rack.
I will never replace my air filter again in my 2019 ram 1500 classic.

The first time I changed my oil out of warranty on my '17 Ram, the filter placement infuriated me. What a stupid design on something that is serviced more than any other part. I've never owned a vehicle with a dumber design.

Not really a K&N fan, I've always run OEM oil filters on my vehicles.
K&N uses oils on their filter, which can come off and mess up sensors
K & N filters are terrible at filtering
