    My 2017 ram 1500 V6 uses a canister type oils filter located on top of the engine. Need to remove the plastic cover to access it. Canister cap is a 24mm or 15/16” socket. I don’t feel any difference between the 2 sizes.

    These Rams call for Synthetic blend 5w-20. Can we switch to full synthetic? I've heard blends are a rip off only have to contain 7% synthetic by law. Ugh

      +John Zitiello Thanks for watching! We recommend using whatever type of oil the manufacturer calls for. All vehicles are engineered a specific way and it is always best to use what they recommend. 1aauto.com

      Yes you can go to full synthetic, my 2018 5.7 recommends full synthetic, Synthetic blend is like the minimum. the factory says that Pennzoil platinum 5W20 Full synthetic is what the engine was designed to run on, I use mobile 1 full synthetic with a mobile 1 filter but if you want to go by the factory then Pennzoil Platinum 5W20 is what the engineers built the motor to use.

      Penzoil full synthetic. Never had issues. Going in 70k miles. I’ve had since brand new back in 2014

      Reason got value lifters noise issue in summer time like metal rubbing and oil weight is too water thin on 5w20 full synthetic. Fix it with 5w30 synthetic summer time and my oil pressure is steady at 40psi in summer time without accelerate engine and jumped to over 60 psi during accelerate engine. 5w30 full synthetic for winter time or both synthetic or full synthetic works and mopar 8 hole oil filter 889 was the early 5.7 Hemi 2002-2009 history book. Like 2002 dodge ram 5.9 hemi post to use 75w140 full synthetic gear lube inside rear axle like those newer rams 2010 to latest used 75w140 full synthetic gear lube in rear axle because of driven hard mostly. Expensive run test for Updating my books correctly. Manufacturing my say what to used will get you started or get screwed on misdirection.

      I use 7oz seafoam in crankcase on 5.7 hemi use 7 quartz oil because someone missed oil change. Let it idle with 5w30 synthetic until engine warming up until valve lifter noise is gone. Only use seafoam for emergency for missing oil change.

    I think stating what size engine it is would be helpful.

    leverage is your friend been doing this since i was 17 and im 53 now longer ratchet or breaker bar . I always get the truck that was done last by some dumb kid who thinks its ok to use a air ratchet to put the drain plug back on . and of course does not think or care about the next guy in the dealer who gets it next service . there is a kid in my shop who likes to put all his spin on filters on with his pliers lets just say I dont think he will be doing that any more because I just did a oil change on his last veh enough said right frankie

    Do you need to use a bit of oil to lube the new oil filter?

    • @joehyundaitech7961
      @joehyundaitech7961 5 лет назад

      yes

    • @mr.travis5326
      @mr.travis5326 5 лет назад +5

      Yes and pre-fill the filter to avoid a dry start. I would use a quart size zip lock bag also to take filter off so you don't get oil all over your rack. Also after filter removal I always take crankcase bolt back out because with the pressure it drains the rest of the oil out

    Great video. Clear, quick and to the point. I'll 100% subscribe but I have a question about the other pan on the bottom of the Ram 1500. What the heck is it called? It has a rectangular shape, with lines on it and a Allen key that says oil drain with and arrow? I think this is leaking on my truck but I can't seem to find the name. Please help! :)

    Gallon size ziplock bag over the filter to catch the oil and not make such a mess

    "Tighten the filter as tight as you physically can by hand". I won't be doing that but I appreciate everything else

    Other videos say the drain plug is a 13mm. You saying 1/2 inch. Which is it?

    I did this job today and was so disappointed at the location of the filter. Oil gets all over everything and is an absolute mess.

    I just left from working at a dodge ram dealer after doing oil changes on the rams and wranglers I do not miss the ram with the 5.7 the oil filter was in the worst place try doing these all day long and you need a ladder or step stool to put the oil in the oil fill

    I work at a hyundai Chrysler jeep ram dealership as a lube tech I had one of these today the 5.7 is a messy job because the factory mounted the oil filter right above the steering rack and starter

    My Ram 1500 hemi is by far the hardest/messy oil filter change on any car I have ever owned. Mopar makes a 45 degree filter adapter with a drip diverter, I want to install but have no idea if there is enough space to do with out major disassembly. I would love to see a video of it's installation. There currently is none on youtube.
