- Hang in there AutoEdit You Tube friends... I'm committing to the channel and want to start creating much more content BUT I NEED YOUR HELP! Just give these videos a watch and like... subscribe if you haven't yet.... that's it.
Here's a link to the Lucas transmission fluid that I use in this video:
www.amazon.com/dp/B008RWA8W8?...
I know some of you are just fans of the Mustang build or the Jeep or welcome to those new to the Ram Truck build up.
All I'm asking for is support in the way of a click... a few more views and subscriptions go a long way in keeping the channel going so I can focus more on just these projects and doing more on them sooner!
With some of the videos going up on the channel only getting a few views, it shows me that my friends here are very specific on what they want to see.
That is completely understandable and I respect that... but the channel as a whole needs support to grow. So please help by just clicking on some of the videos... even if it's on one of the projects that don't quite "float your boat" ... It will help me get to the one you do like sooner!!!!
Thanks so much for the support and friendship here on the RUclips already and I look forward to many more years!
Best,
Jason Авто/Мото
I don't own a Jeep, Ram, or Mustang, but I watch all your videos anyway. They're well shot and edited and are always full of interesting info. Maybe one of these days I'll buy a Jeep of my own and will be able to use some of the knowledge I've gained from your channel. Thanks for the videos and keep up the great work!
Wow! Love hearing this, thanks so much! The support is appreciated.
IMPORTANT:
When you're adding fluid on a hot engine, make sure you give the new fluid a chance to get hot before you check the level again.
When you check it right after you put the cold fluid in, you'll end up putting in way more than it needs (even though the levels looked good) because it hasn't had a chance to expand yet.
This will leave you with a blown filter seal and a $6 - 10,000 bill for a new transmission.
Which is exactly what happened to me (2013 Ram, 140K miles)
Thanks for your advice . I am thinking that after a recent filter change, I might have overfilled mine....so I bought another set of filters and fluid to redo it again...sorry for your expensive experience.
Mine is showing good level when fully hot...but at cold temperature, like overnight, the dip stick still shows full in the hot range , does that make sense ?
I hadn't seen this video before. I almost cried when i saw Pinto knowing she's gone. So sorry for your loss, she seemed like a great dog.
Thanks for the video.
💔
Me under my truck waiting to see to the first step “starts playing fetch”
I always like to wear some safety glasses when I'm under the truck. There's always bits and pieces of crud waiting to fall into my face. In a situation like this, considering the risk of spilling, it would be a must for me.
Thanks for the vid, love them all!
Solid advice! Thanks so much!
Boooo! That makes the job way too easy.. My eyes are tough from the dirt and diff fluid, ATF, and motor oil “eye drops”
Thanks for explaining why we haven’t seen any large marge episodes in a while. I watch all of your videos and follow you on social media (your Instagram and Twitter are weak sauce...haha). Great job on the videos... I was going to have the dealership do a tranny fluid change for me on my 2000 tundra, but you convinced me that I can do it myself...thanks. Your videos are always inspiring (to DIY, go off-roading, or do some simple upgrades to me ride).
Awesome! Good luck... take your time and it will be great.
always great process, ty for taking the time to put these vids together.
Love the instruction and update videos, keep up the great work.
OK! Thank you!
Loving all these uploads lately lol and all the lucas product after a guy with a 65 mustang recommended to me
My 1999 Jeep Cherokee Xj has almost 330,000 miles and is just like new... Transmission is just like new too.4.0 AW4 BEAST...
Thanks for the oil pan tip, it will not be fun getting warm transmission oil on your head while doing the job. Looking forward to more videos!!!
Thanks for checking it out and yes it was not awesome getting hot transmission fluid on my head!
I dont own a dodge , but thanks for the videos you do. They are incredibly helpful for me.
I really appreciate the support and the comment!!!! Thank you!
I like the variation of intros, coordinating with what you are working on.
I'm trying to keep it interesting for ya!
That is so funny. I notice that this time because I was 2 vids behind. Really cool!
New subscriber here for the Ram. Loving your vids man, keep up the good work!
Welcome and thanks! I have some big plans for this truck!
Wow what great timing im literally walking out the door to do the same job on my truck lol
Good luck with your project... hope it goes as smooth as I got lucky with here.
Your dog loves you and is comfortable with you. You have a good bond. So I like you now, lol. Good info, nice ride.
Thanks!
A little tough getting to the two bolts under the exhaust pipe. It would have been helpful to see how YOU manage to get to them and with what tools. I ended up using a box end wrench. Also, knowing how tight to make the screw on filter when installing the new one, would have been helpful. I used "hand tighten" only. My kit came with a rubber gasket and it made installation much easier by pushing the pan bolts through prior to re-installing the pan. The rubber holds all the bolts in the pan so well.
What an awesome pup! Thanks for the videos. Tryin to save some bucks by working on my RAM myself
Glad to help
Used your video to do mine on my ram today one of the better videos on diy transmission
Thanks so much for this... really appreciate hearing it and I'm really glad to have helped a fellow gear head!
safety glasses! thanks for the video just did my hemi grand cherokee with your tips, love that hemi but not putting them in jeeps much will have to move to a truck which is fine .
Thanks, yes... not having a nice V8 in my Jeep is the only downside to that vehicle!
Thanks for the video. This was the first time I did this myself on my 2004 Ram 1500. I spent a good 2 hours cleaning all the RTV off, there was so much everywhere. It was a pain to seat the seal for the filter, but I got it done. Also, taking off the pan was a pain because there was so much RTV. Just a warning to any newbie DIY mechanics like myself; most likely your experience won’t be as smooth as anyone’s video makes it seem. It usually takes me a lot more time and a lot of swear words, lol.
Good share... I've been very happy with the cork gasket so far!
My filter kit came with a rubber gasket. Worked out really nice.
Love that truck,. And the Jeep!
ME TOO! Thanks dude
Love the videos!! I've got a 2014 and I threw the full Power Stop set on and love them! Keep up the good work!!
Awesome!!!!
Good idea dropping the pan slightly. I would push a rubber tube through the gap, then syphon as much fluid off as possible.
I was just thinking about trying that.
Great video. Thank you. My transmission fluid pressure light came on. I topped it off. Light did not go away. I will be doing the full fluid and filter change as they said this could also be the problem. You video was detailed to the point and very very helpful as I have never done this. If you comment I will let you know how I did.
Good luck and thanks for the comment!
How did you do? !
Norris Mantooth good wasn’t that bad. Still ended up with a mess haha but hey it was my buddy’s drive way so what ever. Thanks again man
Nice helper was ready right away and you don't ask anything 😂, your pet
Mustang Mustang Mustang!!! LOL amazing videos man. :)
Yep, it's in line but it's going to be a bit. Hang in there.
Merci pour ces astuces c'est vraiment super.
Merci beaucoup! Je suis content que vous ayez trouvé la vidéo utile.
Cool, I gotta do this. Sweeeet Ram, I love mine.
Thanks... it's a pain in the neck but easy enough to get done!
Fluid extractor down the dipstick tube helps minimize the mess.
Solid suggestion
I will give that a try thanks and great video
Great video!
Videos of such a good quality And my favourite Pinto the dog :)
Thanks!
Fantastic info!
Thanks so much!
Great video bud!
Thanks!
Truck sounds good thx!
I have a 5qt pump fluid extractor. Insert clean suction tub down the dipstick tube and eliminate the mess. I just dropped the pan yesterday and saw the end of the dipstick.
Previous owner used RTV…this is a messy delay and now I will be on day 2 lol.
That's a good idea. The cork gasket I used in this video is still holding up perfect.
@@AutoEdits That gives me good reassurance about the cork gasket 👍 I am on day two and just got back from the auto part store with filter kit number 2 as I mangled the ring looking seal (ring seal) that goes on the male end of the big filter. This has been a challenging job when it really is not a complicated job 😀
1. Posting frequently will help the channel grow.
2. DIY should be a separate series.
This should be DIY ep.1
3. Make a performance parts series coz people love performance parts.
4. Make a myth busting series.
I thought you were joking when mentioning that you should be my agent... You offer extremely valuable advice and it is greatly appreciated!!!!
Thank you so very much for the interest and support, it means a lot to me.
I still haven't figured out how to change the AutoEdit like you suggested on this page... going back in now...lol!
autoedit What can I do. I'm so kind I know.
LOL
Don’t forget road trips / off-roading adventures.
Ive been using lucus products on my truck since I bought it and I am very happy with there products but I haven't found transmission fluid yet
I had to actually go online and order this stuff... my local Pep Boys had everything else from Lucas but the ATF. Like I mentioned in the Optima video... when I go all in... I go all in... LOL
Can you use a floor jack to hold/lower the pan or would that damage it? I'm sure everyone makes a mess the first time they change fluids.
Great job on the ram, always watch what you do on the ram. I've done alot of the things you do from watching you, I wish you were doing a trans flush on a 8 speed automatic, because I'm going to be doing that next. Thanks you for so much ram mods, keep it up.
I actually wish I had that 8 speed as well... seems like a great transmission but the maintenance sounds tricky but I don't know first hand.
AutoEdits Jason thanks if you know anyone that has done it please let me know. Love the your channel, keep up the ram mods
Great information thank ya sir!
You bet!
Almost 100k subs !!!
HAHA! Yes, taking forever!
Best video thanks!
Thank you!
Good stuff
Hey Jason, I replaced my fluid with an after market transmission fluid that would "work fine" with my 2010 Dodge Ram 4x4 5 speed. Also did both filter changes. A month later started having a shutter start to happen around certain speeds and RPMs. Went on for months. Went to 4-5 different shops, they quoted me on a new torque converter trans etc. turns out I changed the fluid again several months after this and put the MOPAR ATF-4 transmission fluid in it, and a week later: no shutter. Have put 30,000 miles on it since no problem. Just a warning, might be best on these transmissions to put the recommended atf-4 mopar fluid in.
I want to say it was a common brand from my local auto parts store like Lucas or something
I'll let you know how this stuff performs. So far it's been perfect but we'll see.
It wasn't Lucas.
Thanks from a gmc truck guy
Does this get all the old fluid out of the cooler, lines, and everywhere else as well?
Can you do one for the Jeep? I know it’s a manual too!
Спасибо. И по сути понятно. И речь понимать легко.
Awesome video. Did you order the filters and gasket online or did you get it from dealer? I got all my transmission fluid I just need to order the filters and gasket. Mine is a
2014 ram hemi 6spd
Awesome video where you order the gasket and the two filters from. My 2014 ram 6spd just hit 60k and I’m doing all fluid change. I just did my r
Rear diff.
So I need to order the tranny filters any info would be great thanks
Ok thank you buddy 😀
I wish i watched this first! Because you know what happened!🤦♂️ I thought i was ready for it but i wasn't, AT ALL!😂
Hey, I got me before as well! Now we know... LOL
You could also install a drain plug on the trans pan.
Yes true!!! I just didn't have time on this install since I was going on a long drive the next day.
Could you post the hotlink(s) to where you got everything???
You can add transmission fluid through the dipstick?
Well done Thank you
Question? did you drain the converter? seems like a waste of $$ to mix synthetic with conventional oil not to mention oil failure
Awsome videos. This one is specifically informative because I'm going to be doing this as well. I was wondering how the gasket held up? I'm tempted to use it instead of rtv. What brand did you use?
I don't remember the brand but it is still holding up perfect... no leaks!
What is the part number for the gasket? I would like to get the same gasket for my truck.
My 2016 8speed express 5.7 goes on lip mode wen the rpms.drop for a comple stop ? Can u help me
Great video as usual. Any plans to fix the passenger side rear quarter panel?
Thanks! Yes, I will fix that stuff eventually... just wanted to get the important mechanical upgrades done first and then make it pretty!
Wowowow, your up loading videos waayyyy to quickly for me to keep up XD :P
btw, whats with the channel name change to AutoEdits Jason?
HA! I'm trying... that name change was a mistake... meant to just make it AutoEdits but copied my Instagram name over.
Thanks for all the content you put out!
Great choice on using a gasket
It's been great so far and was so much easier to install... lol
Look at lube locker for your d44 if you aren't already
Is the Jeep transfer case selector still on the truck?
Good info.
Thanks!
Great video! Many thanks. Hey question: WHY don't trans pans have a drain plug at the bottom like oil pans? I never understood that.
It's just cheaper for the manufacturers... many aftermarket products are available with drain plugs and there are even kits you can install in stock pans.
Lot of import do have a drain plug . they have to reinforce the hole by adding a weld and 1x1 inch 1/4 thick bar stock drill tap threads , a stock pan is just run through a heavy press punched out . Saves them a few hundred grand a year not having a drain plug. back in 1986 I worked for Etana Ind heavy press plant Warren Michigan
Because if you’re draining the trans fluid then you should always be changing the filters. Similar to changing your engine motor oil, except the filter for the motor oil isn’t inside of the oil pan.
Will that work for my Dodge Ram 1500 even if it's not a four by four
Nice video - thanks! Side note: My filter kit came with a rubber gasket. Just wondering why you went with a cork gasket.
They work the same. 👍
On a 1996 ram is the same?
Thanks for the info. I have a question though. How is the Lucas ATF working for the ram? It’s much cheaper than Mopar ATF so I’m curious to hear how’s it’s been working for you. Thanks.
It's been working great for two years now, the truck seems very happy with the Lucas.
Is it the same for a 2013 Ram 1500 Rwd?
After first drain n fill n filter change, I've been siphoning fluid out through the dipstick using cheap fish aquarium hose.
Takes lil more time, but no more spilling oil pan or mucking up my gasket 😀
Good job
Hey, thanks!
Looked but didn't see it... how was the cork gasket? I have a FRAM filter/gasket kit for my '03 and debating the gasket. Been in the box a while so will leave out in the sun a few hours to flatten out but, if you had troubles/leaks I might just go for the gasket/sealer in a tube instead. Thanks.
Cork gasket is still holding up perfect.
Do a transmission service video for the jeep!!
My Jeep is a manual trans... pretty easy... still want to see that?
Where did you get the solenoid?
Might i recommend an aftermarket oil pan, with a drain plug. That makes life way easier. You can change the oiI way more often, and it's super easy, but you still have to remove it every so often to change the filter and gasket. And sometimes, like on my old 5.9L, adjust the transmission bands. Good luck!
Great suggestion... I'm always in the predicament of wanting to get the task done without leaving time to order a new pan... LOL Silly but true.
Exactly what I was thinking. A simple drain plug. I don't get why they wouldn't put one on there
@@joe7346 Got my pan! It came with a plug already installed, so I didn't have to drill and tap my own. So far (about 4 months) no leaks. And ive got crystal clear mopar transmission oil running through it, and brand new filters! My magnet was still pretty clean, so I wont have to remove the pan for a while now. Good luck guys!
Is it necessary to do a flush after the new fluid has circulated or will the drain plus adding to top it off be the way to go?
What you are suggestion would be the most thorough but also very expensive and labor intensive so it is common practice to do it this way.
Awesome
I'm wanting to use that transmission fluid, I love the Lucas products. But my Ram is the 2500 5.7 hemi and I can not find anywhere if it's expectable to use that fluid in it.
I don't blame you on being hesitant. It is still running fantastic in this Ram all these years and miles later.
Nice video........any chance you’re gonna do any videos on the tcase? Im interested in if the old tcase motor is plugged in the keep the computer happy and how the shifter mechanism looks in the cab.
I do a couple of features on that in prior videos on the truck. There is no motor connected to the transfer case shifter... just a generic Advanced Adapters unit that flops around inside the cab. Something I need to deal with at some point and yes the computer is upset but functional.
autoedit cool. Been trying to catch up on previous vids, ill bolo. As far as the tcase motor, i meant is the motor from the old tcase still plugged in and tucked up out of the way? IIRC, it was left plugged in to try to keep the computer happy when the cases were swapped. Sorry for all the questions, I’m entertaining the notion of replacing the POS BW44-44 in my ‘14 with a manual shift Atlas or RockTrac.
It is not attached and it has a SVC4WD light on the dash that has been on since I started driving the truck years ago.
Can you make a future video on how to get a better mpg ?
I like this suggestion.
nice video. How many fluid on a 545 RFE Dodge ram1500 5.7, Year 2005 ?
I think it's the same as the 2009 in this video.
And can you put synthetic oil in a 2012 Dodge Ram 1500
I’m not sure about all synthetics but this specific Lucas does work in our Rams... both 2 and 4 wheel drive
Jason - I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 5.7l Hemi Magnum. In this past winter there has been a sound developing when I am driving. It happens when I am in either two wheel or 4x4. I (in 2 wheel drive) will drive at road speed on the highway and I am hearing a "chatter/clunking" - if I reduce speed to switch into 4x4 it will stop and then start chattering/clunking" again. Have you ever had this happen to your Dodge Ram? It will come and go and I have no idea what it might be. I have checked transmission and transfer case (fluids are normal without leaking). I have checked differentials and drive train components (nothing in either case housing and the driveline seems to be in working order). Other than putting it on a lift and shifting through all gears and in and out of 4x4 I am stumped. Thanks for any input. I absolutely must have the truck in working order because we are building an off grid home in the mountains and it is the only way to make it to the property.
Sounds like you have to figure out where EXACTLY the sound is coming from... could be front axle half-shafts or u-joints in the driveshafts. Check all of those things first and work inward from there. Best of luck!
Not mentioned: "adjusting the bands" as recommended in the O. manual. Any input there?
Nope, I don't do that... change fluid and filters and keep running.
I changed changed both my trans filter put royal purple in. And now my transmission is slipping. I've got 07 dodge ram 1500 . Any help like should I drain again and try diffrent trans oil or take to a shop?
Also check engine light is on now to
So...you don’t mention the year or model...would
This be applicable for a 2019 Dodge Ram 1500 Classic, 3.6 Liter??
This is the 2009 V8 so I'm not sure if they use the same transmission for the 6 cylinder. The process would be the same but the quantity of fluid may differ.
I am in Reno, Nevada and would love to meet up with you some time!
Maybe one day!
At how many miles should I change the fluid on my transmission
Depends on a few things like if you tow and such but 50-60,000 miles is about right.
Did the same but stuck a pump hose in the gap and suctioned a lot out
Smart
hi bro what is a specification and a brand of oil do u advice ?
I use Lucas oil 5w-20 which is the stock recommended spec. it's important on these engines to use the right weight oil to make sure the timing solenoids (which run on oil pressure) operate correctly.
Do you fill the transmission fluid through the transmission dip stick hole?
Yes
Hello, I was hoping you could tell me who makes the bumper on your ram or if it was fabricated and If so where was it made? I really like the style and hoping to get one just like it
www.randyellisdesign.com/ But it's not in there regular lineup.... give them a call.
I had the same question, just sent them an email so we shall see
What front bumper is on your truck?
They were made by Randy Ellis Designs. www.randyellisdesign.com/ I don't think they offer them on the web page but give them a call and ask.
Would that be the same on a 2011 ram 1500 with the 4.7 v8?
Same technique, yes. I know use a siphon and suck as much transmission fluid from the dipstick first to make the pan removal even easier. www.amazon.com/dp/B07QQ4Z8T3?ref=exp_autoedits_dp_vv_d
Is it fine to fill through the dip stick?
It's really the only convenient place to fill in this application.
Does anyone know the reason they don’t put drain plugs on the transmission pans
Cheaper to make by a lot!
On average what would a shop charge and how often will this service need to be done ?
I don't know what a shop would charge and each vehicle has a recommended service interval for this and the Ram was 100,000 miles.
