    In the screenplay Diana's mother says: "if you choose to leave then Themyscira's location will fade from your memory" So her mother is not banning her from returning, it is part of the magic that helps to protect the island.

    • @blackkatt777
      @blackkatt777 3 года назад +10

      Yes. The only reason why the cloak failed from entry was after she did her shielded arm guard blasts. I think she accidentally weakened it, so steve and those soldiers were able to penetrate the invisible barrier.
      From the exposition of the mother, Zeus made the Amazons as if they were a subspecies, higher than a human, but lower than a demigod. It was never clear about them aging if they leave the island, or if they were made to live longer lives. Diana also doesn't count in that situation, because she is supposed to be like an immortal.
      So either she can't get old and die like a mortal, or ...like Superman, her cells breakdown slower, so it just means a longer life span.

    Love this movie. The whole scene from where she steps up from the trenches until she takes out the sniper in the tower is the most badass "coming out" of any superhero movie. The first time I saw it I wanted to simultaneously scream, laugh, cry, and strap on a heavy metal guitar and crank out some power chords on 11. That whole scene left no doubt in anyone's mind about Gal Gadot's portrayal of Wonder Woman. Indelibly epic.

      I had my doubts about Gal Gadot prior to the movie and was worried it would be flooded w political agendas. The movie was very good, handled many things very well. I liked virtually the entire cast and everyone's portrayal of their character. By having a strong group of men ( while human) but not focusing on SJW nonsense or trying to be little them only amplified what Wonder Woman is and represents. It made the scene your talking about all that more powerful!

    Personally, while I loved both Steve and Diana’s dynamic in this, they honestly shouldn’t have brought back Steve for WW84. I thought his sacrifice was appropriate and well-done towards the end of this one, and bringing him back in “spirit” form for WW84 was unnecessary. Especially since 1984 is a long time jump anyway. They should’ve moved on and told a better story that can still involve Cheetah. But hey. That’s just my viewpoint.

    25:10 Something you may likely have overlooked in terms of subtext -- the whole story that Hippolyta told Diana about her being made of clay and brought to life by Zeus is just a that, a story. She told her that to hide the fact that Zeus was her actual father (one of the last things he did, approximately 5,000 years ago, after enchanting the island was to sleep with Hippolyta so as to pass on the god-essence to their child; similarly, living on the island nourished Diana physically and mystically so that she could arise as a demi-goddess when the time came). It's easy to note when you step back and realize how "brought by a stork" the story Hippolyta told effectively sounds like... 😉
    Also easy to overlook is how Diana's powers were gradually growing/awakening across the movie, as she got stronger/faster/more resilient as the days went by until she fully awakened after Steve died. The power she channels through the "god/star"-metal of Themiscyra (of which her sword, shield, bracers, tiara, etc, are all made from) comes from within her; she needs the bracers, et al, to fully manifest her powers. Example: before fully awakening, when Diana would deflect bullets there would be a brief glow on her bracer, which was a sign of her power; later (including as-exampled in BMvSM and later in JL), once fully awakened, there are no ricochets from her bracers because her power causes the bullets to disintegrate on impact vs just being deflected.

    Although, to be fair, this is during World War I (1914-1918). He would have been long dead by the time of *Batman v Superman* anyhow.
    Also, remember when *Diana* made that comment about how hideous London was? That wasn't only because she was from a beautiful island. I imagine that is certainly part of it. But this was at the height of the _Industrial Revolution._ Factories were just pouring smoke into the sky nonstop. 😝

    Finally someone made a super hero movie worthy of heroic women. Take notes female ghost busters, ocean’s 8, THIS is how you make a badass female lead, and how you write a female hero film. And it did all that without having to ever once have a real “girl power” moment. Bc to everyone watching, the girl power was self evident.

    The man who wrote the Wonder Woman comics was a psychology professor (I'm sure), professor Marsten I think his name was. He was also one of the people who worked on one of the first prototypes of the lie detector which is one of the places where the Lasso of Truth came from. there was a film made about his polygamous relationship with his wife and a former student of his, though people say that his wife and the other woman weren't in a relationship as well like the movie portrayed them to be but that it was more like they were like sisters.

That Ares fight kind of took away the meaning of the rest of the movie which was so good. That is why Screen Junkies named this movie the best 2/3 of a movie
