But when superman says Martha he remembers his mother and father, he remembers what hes been fighting against he realizes that this "alien" that he is killing is a man with a mother and family, he realizes that he is becoming Joe Chill, he realizes that he is breaking his one rule and stops. but then he goes on a rampage moments after. So the reason this "Martha" scene wasn't because their mother doesn't have the same names. It is because Batman saw superman as an alien who come around and builds destruction. He only saw him as an enemy that will bring death no matter where. Then when this scene happened, the reason he clicked was cause he realized that Clark has a family. He lived in the world as a normal human being. Despite all the power, he shows he has a family and people he cares about. Also batman realizes he is becoming something he has been fighting against. The enemies he puts away he is becoming that same thing with Superman

They weren’t instantly friends. Batman wanted to redeem himself and save his mom unlike how he couldn’t his own mom, then they worked together to defeat Doomsday. Nowhere in their body language and lines does it allude to them being friends. They just had a common enemy.
As for your perception of Batman being evil. That’s the point of his arc in this movie. This Batman has been Batman for 20+ years and lost all his loved ones. His moral code was breaking and he was loosing his humanity to the Batman persona. He didn’t think Superman was a villain, he just felt responsible to kill him because he knew he would be the only one who could, just in case he was a threat in the future.

For Batman, he just really viewed him as the villain, as you said. And the reason why he realized killing Superman would be stupid was because he saw that Superman was just as human as he was, he had a kind heart, he had a girlfriend, a mother, a job, just like everyone else does. He saw that he was just being stupid and ignorant, and i feel like he saw how disappointed his parents would be of him if he did that to Superman. That is why he stopped and saved Martha. In the 2017 justice league, Batman is completely guilty for Supermans death, he also says in the movie “he’s more human than I am” so he obviously felt like he still failed him.

Awesome reaction! Regarding the Batman in this film, this is a Batman who has been fighting crime for 20 years, and has lost Robin. He is filled with anger and vengeance, and was a different take on the character compared to Christian Bale's, who was a newer Batman who still had his humanity. Ben Affleck's Batman had lost his humanity, and it was Superman's death that brought Batman back to the light. I totally understand why you felt that way about Batman being a villain in this movie, and in a sense he was because of his total anger and loss of control. Batman also killed multiple in this film, as he got rid of his no kill rule after losing his humanity. But Clark's sacrifice brought humanity back to Batman.

    A few things
Almost all people's issues with this movie are from the theatrical version. So many scenes that explained the story and characters were cut and it was just a jumped mess.
Batman in this film was heavily inspired by Frank Miller's take on him, which basically brought batman back to his roots in the comics and it probably the darkest take on the character. Nolan's take is actually very light compared to most comics.
The whole Martha thing, I don't have space to fully explain it but basically batman was pumping himself up with rage so he could not think of superman as even a person so he could kill him. He says superman isn't even a man during their fight. When he hears superman plead for his mother's life, his kill rage lifts and he can think about superman as a person with a mother just like him.

I personaly found this depiction of Batman very refreshing, given that we've seen a lot of different incarnations that followed the same rules. The thing that most people didn't get is that we are not supposed to like or agree with his actions, the fact that you felt a little off is the proof that the movie was successful doing that. Nobody thinks of him as an antihero or something, but someone who has lost his way.
I think the execution of the Martha moment was not great, but the idea behind it, Batman's soul being saved by his human connection with Superman, is amazing.
And the whole thing about humanity being a little afraid of Superman, I don't think people in general would be fine knowing that he can kill whoever he wants in a heartbeat just because he didn't do it yet, just like we are not less afraid of nuclear bombs just because nobody is using them right now. Plus, in the very beginning we see the burning of bodies to frame him, something that would certainly convince a lot of people that he's already up to bad shit.
All in all, it's great to see someone enjoying this movie even with its flaws, and it gets me a little more excited that we're about to see the real sequel after 5 fucking years.

Batman was badass and fought like the video games instead of fighting so slow like christian batman. Lex was a different lex but he managed to put fear into people and planed the whole thing out to make everyone hate superman and also got superman to get on his knees and bend to his will. And when you talk about if superman wanted to kill everyone he would have done it, the movie never mentions and makes you think they talking about him killing them, the main point is that they don’t know if supermans help is all worth it because of the damage and innocent lifes being lost. Like this movie was way better than iron man 2, thor dark world, captain marvel, ant man and the wasp, captain America the first avenger and some how got triple the hate does movie ever did. I really WB wakes tf up and stop cutting snyders movies and actually let the man bring amazing movies and storyline to the DCU. He will show WB and everyone who has bring down and talk shit about his work when the zack snyder justice league comes out 💯

This movie is a political thriller about the dangers of fear of “the other”. Superman is an alien in both a literal sense and the “illegal alien” metaphorical sense. Lex was able to utilize both Superman and Batman’s fears and concerns towards each other and manipulating it into hatred (It’s a commentary on how the government/media can often manipulate public conscience). The Martha moment is when Batman finally sees the common humanity that they share, it makes him realize that all of his fears and hatred were built off of preconceived ideas and Lex’s propaganda.

Except by the fact that all of that doesn't do shit, in the end, Lex Luthor goes and kidnap his mother and tells him: Go kill Batman. So most of the movie is pointless to lead for the fight. Batmas was already mad at Superman, he'd have gotten the kryptonite any time.

I'm kinda impressed of how many people don't get the Martha scene. When I first saw it I didn't think for a minute that the same name was reason for Batman to befriend Superman (well, not befriend but stop trying to kill him). It was just something to make him stop for a second. That is why this name was so important. Batman stopped caused he thought that it's some kind of trick from Supes. He might also think that he's getting totally crazy in that moment. That's why he was so angry about it. When Lois told him that it's Superman's mother's name, it just made him realise, that he is going to murder (in cold blood) someone, who is not only a son of some human mother, there was also another woman there protecting him. In that moment he realised that maybe Alfred was right about him becoming cruel. He became that kind of guy he spent his life fighting against.

First of all, Man of Steel is basically a masterpiece. The only reason why it was "divisive" is because of those individuals who complained that "Superman doesn't kill", yet he has in the comics and has in the Reeve's movies, though the killings were not shown, but implied.
The Ultimate Edition of BvS is an incredible movie, it goes to show that editing is EVERYTHING. The Ultimate Edition is over 30 minutes longer, but seems like a shorter movie because Zack's pacing is kept in place. Plus we get the additional information that was needed for the movie to make sense. There were people who thought that the "Martha" calling during the fight was just that, but there was way too much more to it. Until that scene, Batman thought that Superman was just an alien from outer space. He had no idea that he was raised on earth, had no idea of the humanity that Superman had inside of him. It was his own awakening. It was showing Bruce that he had changed since Robin's death and he had become what the Joker had wanted him to become. Again, there is so much more that is implied, that you have to actually think about. There are videos out there which talk about the importance of that scene and all of the deeper meanings within it. Unlike the Marvel movies, this batch of DC movies has a lot of hidden lore and meaning that most people don't get because they don't want to think about it.
Suicide Squad had issues because of editing and reshoots. But that's why we're going to be getting the Ayer cut soon. Ayer's Suicide Squad had direct tie ins to Justice League (Snyder's version, not the theatrical version) and the mother boxes, but that was all cut due to studio interference, just like the theatrical cut of BvS. Watching this version is good to get prepared for Zack Snyder's Justice League.

@@Excalibur-je5pk Correct. I think that character's called Val-Zod (human name being Terrence Sloan, I think). If that Superman version does end up materializing into a legit film, it'll be interesting how the writers/director/comic-consultant team go about it. I mean, Val-Zod in the comics is Zod's son, but in the DCEU it wasn't clear whether he ever had a family or not, what-with all the codex & predetermined path of life stuff.

It was rage in Batman not being evil. And the Martha scene has a lot of meaning. It's not the name. It's that even when he's about to die, superman asks batman to save someone else which brings him out of the rage and he gets more angry at him shouting "why did you say that name" thinking supes is messing with him cause bats mother's name is also Martha and when Lois says that it's his mother's name, Batman snaps out of it realizing that Superman has a mother and he's just as much of a human as himself. That's when he sees the humanity in supes. Also batman is so gritty in this movie because he's not just a new batman, he's been through it for 20 years and in this world the joker killed robin, so he's slowly descending into madness and it was supes who brings back the humanity into batman. When you think about it it's almost poetic

In the graphic novel The Death of Superman they fought in the daytime and Supes wasn't killed the same way. But in the comics that followed the Death of Superman a scientist that had studied Kryptonian physiology criticized Lois and Jimmy and told them Clark would have survived if left exposed to sunlight
