Well that movie was an epic story with amazing action scenes. Few plot twists that caught me off guard. Loved it! So the next film in release order was Suicide Squad (2016) right? Comment down below with your favorite parts of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Also, why was the Ultimate Edition so important, what key parts did they cut out in the original release? I'm curious.

Some will say that you skip Suicide Squad because, quite frankly, as a massive DC fan it was a bad movie. But since you're doing a DCEU/DCU journey I think it is only fair and right that you get to some extent experience what we have experienced. I'll say though that if you proceed to Suicide Squad do the Extended Cut version.

The Martha angle was so well setup throughout the movie. The first time I watched it in theaters, *before* the fight between Batman and Superman, I realized for the first time that their mothers had the same name. I'm not sure any other Batman/Superman story has ever pointed it out before. And it was brilliant using it, because nothing else would be able to penetrate Batman's rage, remind him of why he became a hero in the first place. It's about making sure no boy ever has to lose his parents ever again.

I've said this before in your MoS reaction, Supes is not designed for us to look at a god like being but he is designed for us to see what we the humanity are capable of doing regardless having powers or not. To answer your question about the pearls, they were not always as significant to Bruce's backstory as they are now. The 1986 graphic novel The Dark Knight Returns reinvented much of the Batman mythos, including the pearl necklace Martha wore the night of the Waynes' murders. Frank Miller wrote the graphic novel, and much of this movie is heavily inspired by it, including Batman's look and fight with Superman.

@@KiLlACaMrOn94 First of all, I love Zack's take on Superman. He makes him feel vulnerable and human, as opposed to the perfect person he is in comics, which always felt unattainable to me. But this is a Superman who is unsure of himself, and doesn't know if he should even continue to be Superman in a world that doesn't want him. In a way, it's Jonathan Kent's worst fear come true. But Clark persists and does what he thinks is right anyway. And in the end, he isn't Superman because it's what he has to be or because it what someone else wants him to be; he chooses to be Superman and to die for a world that may not accept him, but he chooses it nonetheless because it's Lois's world, and she is everything to him.
And his sacrifice redeems Batman, who is my favorite live-action Batman. This isn't a Batman we're used to seeing (even though EVERY live-action Batman has killed people). This is a Batman who's lost too much and become jaded and bitter, to the point where he decides to act preemptively and murder Superman. But the movie at no point condones this course of action. The whole way, we see Alfred try to warn Bruce that this isn't right, and we can see it's exactly what Lex wants. This isn't a story where Batman is the hero, he is the tragic figure, fallen from grace. And only at the last possible moment does he realize how far he has truly fallen. Now he is the monster in the alley. And then he sees what he perceives to be the biggest threat to the world sacrifice himself to save it, including the man who would have been his executioner. And in that moment, Bruce's faith in the goodness of humanity is restored.
He says as much. Earlier, he says, "How many good guys are left? How many stayed that way?"
But at the end, he says, "Men are still good... We can do better. We have to." And we see evidence of that faith when he specifically chooses NOT to brand Lex, even though it's clearly what he deserves. By showing mercy, Bruce redeems himself, in his eyes if no others.
And then there's the Knightmare sequence. There are so many layers to this it's not even funny. Even back then, Zack knew *exactly* where his overall story was going to go and was laying the seed work. But we couldn't see the full picture, and most people thought it was filler that could be removed. But just imagine if we had gotten Zack's JL sequels that explored a world taken over by Darkseid and the Anti-Life Equation and then coming back to this sequence. It would feel so natural and fit so perfectly, and the idea that it should have been removed would be laughable. But as it is, it still functions perfectly within the story the movie tells.
On the one hand, it's Bruce's fears of the worst-case scenario if Superman is left unchecked. On the other, it vindicated Lex's claim that is all-powerful, he cannot be all good. Because when Clark dies to save Earth, he shows his goodness and his weakness. But by being resurrected in the future Bruce sees, he becomes a tyrant, showing his power but also his corruption. And only by getting Zack's entire vision would we see how that could be avoided.
Alas, it's not to be. I will content myself with the fact we got Snyder's Justice League and be happy with what I consider to be a perfect trilogy of movies, and imagine what could have been with the storyboards we know exist for JL2 and 3.

Super underrated film. Great reaction. So Batman's plane is called the Batwing and Wonder Woman's Lasso is called the Lasso of Truth or the Lasso of Hestia. Also, may be controversial but I love the Martha scene. Writing wise it's brilliant imo bcuz it takes the depressed, Batman that has lost all hope and his way (by killing) and that scene restores his faith in humanity and makes him hopeful again. He sees that Alfred was right, Superman is not the enemy, bcuz he has a mother that he cares more for than his own life. Superman is not begging for Batman to spare him, Superman is begging Batman to save his mother. And yes their mothers in the comics are both Martha, Martha Wayne and Martha Kent. It's never been addressed in the comics but I think it was smart for Zack Snyder to utilize that for yet another point to get Bruce to realize he's lost his way. He's become the criminal he swore to stop. Notice he doesn't kill after that point or brand Lex in the prison cell after that point. When talking to Wonder Woman at Superman's funeral, Bruce is hopeful again towards humanity and believes again that they're innately good. Superman is the symbol of Hope in the DC universe and this movie pays huge homage to that.

Also, people complaining about Batman killing are outrageous. He kills plenty of times in the comics and does so when he is driven to that point. They wanted to show how it all happened but people didnt have any patience for the world building. In very few occasions did he have trouble following the complicated and important parts of this Masterpiece of a comic superhero movie. When we see the apocalyptic scenes which has Batman in a trench coat fighting Superman’s Army and Darkseid’s Parademons this is taking place in another time line which was setting up the DCs Multiverse. The flash was in a metal suit in that timeline and asks Bruce Wayne if he was too early and asks him to fear him he was right to fear him, which in that time line Darkseid kills Lois and takes control of the Anti-Life equation which he then uses to control Superman. The warehouse fight scene is above and beyond any fight scene in any of the Batman movies. Again thumbs

Yes Clark accidentally killed a lot ppl when the planet was invaded, yes he attacked terrorist ( no deaths confirmed there at his hands btw ) but the point of all that was Clark finding himself, who he wants to be what he stands for etc.. the more campy Superman still could have come out of this, and it would be great to see all that development.
Same goes for Bruce, yes we all know Batman has a no kill rule, he’s completely against guns etc.. but we also know that after the death of Jason Todd he momentarily changed and became more ruthless. “Fans” tend to ignore the fact that there was clearly a horribly burned and beaten Robin suit in the cave with a spray painted message on it from the joker himslef.. aka Jason Todd is dead.. a few stand alone films could have shown us the Batman before all that, as well as the Batman after his interaction with Superman.

Snyder and Affleck’s Batman is a unique take to what we’re used to. Instead of starting us at the origin again and showing his journey to becoming Batman, in BvS we meet a Bruce that has already been Batman for 20 years without a change in Gotham and has lost his way after the loss of his family in Robin. This Batman is angry and is slowly turning into the criminals that he originally set out to take down.
Snyder’s Batman story is ultimately one of redemption as Superman inspires Batman to self reflect and rediscover what it means to be Batman, to become a better person and embrace a new family in Superman, Wonder Woman, and the Justice League.
Some people weren’t onboard with this story because they didn’t like a Batman that basically starts off as the villain, but I think this is such a fantastic and different direction to take the character whilst still being distinctly Batman.

G'day it's Steven from Down Under
In 1978 at the age of nine I watched Superman the movie in a theatre here in Sydney and that's when I believed that a man could fly and there really was good in the world, from that point forward I became a DC fan, not a "fanboy" but a fan nonetheless, and of course the late Mr.Christopher Reeve truly put his stamp on the character.
I was never drawn to the Marvel comics or characters, all my life it's been about the greatest superhero known to mankind, Superman and also Wonder Woman and Batman.
This is a very underrated movie and the extended version does it justice, it certainly is darker and there's more realism than the lollipop Marvel franchise, and maybe that's a reason it hasn't enjoyed the same level of box office success.
I really enjoyed your reaction and I highly recommend that you react to Justice League, "not" the 2017 theatrical release, I'm referring to the 2021 re-release, and if you're aware of the history of this particular film you'll understand why, this is the director's full vision being told that couldn't be told in the original 2017 release due to a family tragedy and that release was completed by another director that, well, ruined the overall film.

That symbol represents Darkseid, (pronounced Darkside). He is a really big deal in the DC universe. He travels the universe from planet to planet conquering its population and enslaving them as Parademons, those flying things in Bruce's vision. Darkseid is extremely powerful and hard to kill as his true form resides in a different universe.

I've seen complaints about Batman backing down after the "Martha" scene. I think that's the perfect solution. It takes something as personal as one losing his mother and seeing the other's desperation to save his for Batman to see Superman's humanity. Until that point, he didn't see him as human.

I don't care what people say about this, I love it from the bottom of my heart, truly an underrated masterpiece. It's a shame that when BvS came out people wanted a Marvel film with DC characters.Thank God today people are appreciating this film more, maybe because the saturation of the MCU and CBM in general.
BvS is a film for comic book fans and for an audience that likes some more "mature" CBM in my opinion.
So many memorable moments, great balance between dialogues that build up the plot and killer action scenes. And once again: Zack Snyder and Larry Fong NAILED IT in how comic book accurate the visuais are. Zack's vision is from a truly comic book fan, there are several scenes that are identical to some comic pages and some incredible original shots from Larry Fong.
And what can I say the music ? Another brilliant and memorable score by Hans Zimmer and teaming up with Junkie XL? Easily one of the best things of the whole DCEU.
But after all BvS is an flawless film ? Of course not, some characters/plot decisions may have been misleading ...But it's an unique film with beautiful visuals, score and with some major balls in the superhero cinematic world, nobody would do what Snyder did here, and I thank him for giving me the best experience I had in theaters and one of the happiest days of my life.
Yes, next is Suicide Squad and that one along with Birds of Prey are definitely the downs of the DCEU,but since you're watching all the films it's worth to check out mainly because Margot Robbie does a terrific job.

The film is another masterpiece by Zack Snyder, he understands the characters, who they are, and what they stand for, morally and philosophically, and he put them to the test, just like he did with Watchmen. You cannot have a superhero film without exploring the impact they have on the world their mythologies are built in.
Snyder created a realistic world, much like our own, to introduce mythological characters. Man of Steel is a first-contact story. Batman v Superman is a political thriller. And, Zack Snyder's Justice League is a mythological epic. He managed to build a universe that feels realistic, where actions, whether good, questionable, or bad, have consequences, all while honoring, respecting, and adapting the source material.
Batman v Superman is one of the most irrationally-hated films ever. People want comic book characters to be basic and cookie-cutter symbols of their ideas of morality. Their ideas of moral values are Superman saving damsels from the top of buildings and cats from trees, and Batman beating people up, but they don't want to see the repercussions of those actions, they don't want their superheroes to be questioned. They want to be treated like children.
Christopher Nolan did a fantastic job with The Dark Knight Trilogy, but he failed to address how many people Batman killed, all while making his Batman into an incorruptible symbol of justice. While Snyder took a deep dive and made that theme front and center. Batman does kill. The entire point of the beloved The Dark Knight Returns graphic novel is about the character and his actions.
However, Snyder’s idea is not about glorifying violence or death, it's about showing that even the most broken of people can be redeemed. Bruce saw the flaws in his actions and he was inspired by Superman’s selflessness and sacrifice, to become something better. Superman gave hope to The Dark Knight, two characters who are opposites found common ground.

I think it works for the younger Bruce that Pattinson is playing.
It's no big secret that "Batman" is his real persona. "Bruce Wayne" the billionaire playboy philanthropist is the alter-ego. Batman Begins did the same thing when Rachel tells Bruce that his public face is his "mask".
The only difference is that in The Batman, Bruce is so young in his career that he hasn't developed his public mask persona yet. The film highlights that he doesn't go out much.
So as the trilogy progresses, I anticipate he'll lose the emo look and start acting like how Bale did, driving around in fast cars, having each arm around hot women etc

I don't know about the comics, but in this scene the pearls are falling because *everything* is falling in that scene. There's snow falling, the pearls, the leaves at the funeral, Bruce falling into the cave, even his monologue is about how "what falls is fallen". It's symbolic of the deep fall Bruce had when his parents where murdered (notice how the pearl falling is intercut with Bruce falling down the cave, their murder is intercut with Bruce literally hitting rock bottom). The bats obviously represent the idea of Batman "lifting him into the light". But he then says it was a beautiful lie, Batman didn't save him at all, it was just a comforting lie he believed. It sets up a Bruce that's lost his faith in The Batman, and life in general.
