Right stick throttle and yaw...? left stick pitch and roll. "i know im weird" but thats the only way my brain can fly with a controller. Thanks in advance!

As a more cinematic pilot, having the ability to change tilt as you fly is such an incredible feature. Being able to go from a fast move at a 30 degree tilt to a much slower 5 degree tilt as you fly is incredibly helpful to get more dynamic shots. I'm sure with some practice and possibly some post-processing you can make those transitions look smooth, this alone is worth considering adding this to my drone line up.

Never flew a drone before nor had an interest until this came out. 8 months down the road I have learned to fly acro, learned how to fix this quad after big crashes, learned more about the fpv world because I found your channel, and now want to build my own quad because of it. Because DJI made this drone and combo system, it got me into the sport. Now I am hooked. Thanks for all your hard work and excellent videos for us who are still learning!

What they've made, IMO, Is a souped up mavic that can be flown much faster, with a ton more agility, which opens up more possibilities to the cinematic pilot. As an acro freestyle quad, you'd better be a seasoned FPV pilot that isn't going mental with the flight, or you're probably looking at an expensive fix!

Thanks Joshua!!! I am NOT an FPV pilot but watched your videos on BetaFPVs little drones (and also baught one)... and decided that i want a bit of FPV "feeling" for a bit more dynamic fun around the fields. But Getting fully into FPV wouldn't be something i would consider for me since flying drones is sort of an 2-3 Hours a week hobby for me. So the DJI product might be something for me. Good to have an honest review what i could and couldn't get by purchasing this drone.

problem is ... that these kind of channel like dickhead BARDWELL are thriving on all the mumbo jumbo technical stuff that you need to know ... solder, how battery works, betaflight update and settings, etc etc ... if FPV becomes mainstream and you get drone that breaks but you just send them back and get new ones and that everyone doesn't need a workbench etc ... 85-90% of the people will get these drones and only the professionnal racers or hobbyist will continue in that vein with all the repairing stuff and building drones ... so seeing a big compangy like DJI entering this domain and wanting to revolutionize the genre, is a threat to this industry ... and BTW this is version 1.0 ... imagine when they will make a second, third, fourth one ? It's only the begining and it will be even bigger soon and you will see other companies do these "all in one package"

  • @StormBurnX
    @StormBurnX 2 года назад +1

I don't know how to say this in a way that doesn't come across as dickish, but as someone who's watched hundreds if not thousands of slick drone footage clips, there was something immensely refreshing about the more realistic, even sub-optimal flying in your video. I think at a certain point when drone pilots publish the fully edited, stabilized, cherrypicked, saturated and graded clips, every damn drone looks like it produces exactly the same footage, because they only ever show the finished product. Getting to see so much more of the raw footage, as well as the unstabilized goggle feed (which I saw no one else do ever), gave a very clear look at how amazingly polished this thing actually is.
I first got into FPV this year with a tinywhoop clone and still struggle immensely with acro (interestingly the part that screwed with me the most was maintaining consistent altitude/throttle control, though I'm told that a tiny drone with almost no mass is a challenge due to the lack of inertia). I haven't had the courage (or hella fat wallet) to purchase one of these DJI units for myself yet, but a friend of mine picked one up and a few days ago I was handed the controller in his back yard. It's an absolutely wild yet solid beast compared to the tinywhoop and yet there was so much I didn't know about it even after watching over a dozen reviews, both critical and encouraging.
Really appreciated the genuinely in-depth video (essentially the only missing puzzle piece after a few minutes hands-on, and then watching your vid) was the accessibility of user replaceable parts but I took a glance at the DJI shop and I'm really impressed at the options, not just for the drone itself but also for the goggles.
All in all this is a very respectable price (1300USD for the base package set) and I will inevitably pick up one of these when the second gen drops and the price on these drops too :)
(Apologies for any typos as I'm a bit loopy from pain meds due to a broken arm, which is a bit of a problem for drone flying currently haha)

It’s a hard pass for me - but it’s exactly what I thought it was going to be. Meant for cinematic cruise style flight, sort of “FPV with training wheels.” Full manual mode is obviously not intended to be used regularly or lightly, especially since you broke it so easily with that minor looking crash. I thought it was going to be a little tougher than that. I still would not want to own one of these without spare parts like arms available either. *[Update]* I found out from a tear down video that the arms are soldered to a 4n1 ESC. Sooo... even if DJI provides replacement arms the customer will need to be able to solder. Not a big deal to us, but a huge deal to the target demographic. DJI Care Refresh insurance package is going to get a lot of business...

I was a bit salty about this at first. I’ve changed my tune a little bit though. I think it’s pretty nicely put together and has some great features that greatly improve the user experience. I wish that self-built quads could be this polished. Having a nice menu system like you have in the goggles to config things in the field would be pretty nice.
I 99% wouldn’t blow money on this because it’s pretty hard to swallow when I know how to make my own quads, but I think that it seems like a great product that’s optimized for video capture. My only concern is idiots flying these in unsafe places and ruining it for everyone, but that’s the curse of removing the IQ check of figuring out how to build a quad.

As someone with only a DJI Mavic Mini and a couple Parrot Minidrones, I agree with what you said. This drone and its kit are very polished and easy to understand. It's also chock full of features I'm sure will make it a good buy in that regard. But that durability is rubbish and the props being visible in the footage make it inferior to the Mavic lineup for pure cinematic videography. They should really address those two flaws if or when they decide to release the V2. With that having been said, I suppose DJI would have your money if they drop fancy new Air units, huh?

JB, excellent review as usual. For the New people wanting to get into serious FPV, please pay close attention to Bartwell' s review. Watch it several time before you dump $1200.00. Into this fine flying machine.
Do not get me wrong... I want this hobby to go forward with Light speed! I Will however tell you My Honest opinion.
There are many fasets to this hobby. Building, soldering, engineering, electrical, programming, etc. The satisfaction of flying something you built from a box of parts. Racings, videos, editing, RUclips channels. The reward you will feel when you first plug that Lipo into your flight controller that you soldered all the wires to.
    Ok, I'll stop.
My humble honest opinion from a old man is simply this. If you want to fly serious FPV and reap the rewards that this hobby has to offer. You should avoid this DJI money trap. I said of you want to fly serious FPV! You are going to crash and at $1200.00 be prepared to explain to your wife that you FPV skills suck. If JB crashed his, that should be a Big Red flag for you. On a real FPV quad, that's a $12.00 arm and a 15 minute repair.
Does this drone have it's place? Well yes...
If your thinking " Send IT! "
    Nope.
Now watch JBs review again. Before you jump into the same boat that 1000's of DJI pilots are in. A broke quad and no ideas on how to fix it.
I can at least sleep tonight knowing I tried to warn you.
Now go watch JB's review again.

This is the BEST review of the drone on RUclips, period. I am the market for this, long time DJI user interested in a more exciting FPV experience, but still want the "Apple" like convenience and hand holding. I have no intention of EVER trying to slalom through trees like in this video but overflying a bridge or water tower and being able to aggressively pitch over and see the ground? That would be awesome. Maybe approach something and move to the vertical and Immelmann to the other direction? Get swooping rolls and banks as you follow open terrain at a lower altitude and higher speed than a Mavic? Yep. (And I'm keeping the Mavic I know they are for different things.) I know this package allows you to use the new DJI flight sim through the controller and googles and I fully intend to be responsible and learn before taking it all head on and if I ever (and I very much doubt it) get to the point where I want to fly through tiny holes in a grain silo or up a stairwell of an abandoned building I very much know it will be time for something very, very different from this drone. Thanks again for a great review.

i will have to disagree. if he broke off an arm by just slightly touching the tree a beginner will 100% break it if flown in manual mode. No beginner pilot can completely avoid all crashes

You can build so many drones and crash them before you'll reach the price of this. RC and simulator then a whoop is much cheaper

This is cool. I'm betting there are a large number of people out there who would love a FPV with training wheels. I'd buy this without ever going into full manual control.

I bought one...love it! I'm not an fpv racer or into cinematography. I use it for flying adventures and exploring. Lots of fun, great connectivity. The goggles work very well for me even though I wear glasses. I used to have a Mavic Zoom with fpv headset. That proved uncomfortable and didn't work very well with my glasses. I have no complaints about the DJI FPV combo. I am trying to be careful not to crash though.

I bought it. It is my very first drone and I grabbed it on ebay with the additional battery pack charging kit (with only 1-2 loading cycles for every battery) for a good amount (less than 1000€).
I have chosen this one for the googles and shenannigans I can try with their av stuff, the style and mostly for the safety features of the drone, like anti-collision stuff.
So Im happy with it, even I havent managed to fly it by this point (owning the drone for only a small couple of days by now ^^)
