I use the strap included with every camera because I’ve almost dropped all my cameras and the strap has saved me each time. I don’t want to buy one so I just use the provided ones.
I've just bought this camera, actually a few days ago, and just published the unboxing and first impressions...from my humble vlogger point of view I can say it's an awesome camera...So far I have used it with the 10-18mm IS STM, the 24mm pancake lens, the 50mm 1.8 and the 55-250mm IS STM. The 120fps 1080 and 4k with no crop and dual pixel autofocus are the two main reasons why I decided to get the 90D. I haven't tried the 4K yet...I am afraid my computer won't agree on that...However, I was surprised when I found out that the built-in microphone produces a great quality sound...when I switch from built in microphone to rode videomicro outdoors, if there isn't much wind, I can barely hear the difference. I love this camera.
I always stick the strap on even if I rarely use it. Initially I only needed it when I had to free up my hands for whatever reason like when I got my kids in tow, answer my phone, etc. But lately I've found it helps me stabilize my shots, because I suck at keeping my shots steady completely by hand. Stretching my arms out to the max limit that the strap allows helps keep my shots pretty steady.
Very nice! I do know that a lot of people use the straps to help stabilize everything. So far most people are using the camera straps, it’s not as equal as normal 🤣
@@TheEverydayDad I've been trying some pretty ghetto macgyver solutions in my filming lately. My daughter had a dance recital for a chinese cultural festival at our city hall, I wanted some close up shots at the same time filming the entire stage. But because it's a festival, I know there was going to he a lot of people so space wasn't in abundance for like a tripod. I stuck my 75-200mm zoom on my M50 but I also stuck my S9+ into my Osmo Mobile2 with gorilla tripod, and strapped that around the base of my zoom lens. It sort of worked...I had some shots of the whole stage high when I popped up to get some zoom shots. Great unboxing. Thank you for taking the time to upload this video. I'm looking forward to the series since I've been using the 80D forever. Have a great week.
That scroll wheel reminds me of my old 60D. I like it myself. Re the strap - as a photographer (no video yet), I bought a Black Rapid shoulder harness and will never go back to using any neck strap, ever. I have quick release plates with D rings on all my bodies and telephoto tripod mounts so attaching the strap is a snap. Besides, advertising what expensive camera you have dangling around your neck is like a flashing "MUG ME" sign.
That sensor is probably great for photography. I have the 80D, but after the release of the 90D and M6ii I'm probably just going to get the Sony a6400 instead.
Just subbed to your channel bro, interesting content and good production, keep it up! The 6400 is great but BEWARE of the infamous rolling shutter, it's really terrible in videos as soon as you're making any pan move, keep that in mind. I suggest you to look at the new Fuji X-A7 in the $700 price range, it might be a great option to complement your 80D, and they would use the same lenses with the excellent Fringer adapter, or Viltrox speedbooster. Plus coming from Canon I think you will like Fuji image and ergonomics better ;) If you want to replace the 80D, look at the Fuji X-T30. for the same price of the 6400 I think it's a much better option (stronger codecs, 10 bit 422 hdmi out, awesome film simulations, good AF, no rolling shutter). I've been shooting with the EOS-R and the A73 for a year now, and I just replaced my A73 (limited codecs and 8 bit) with the X-T3 because I bought a Ninja V and 10 bit 422 ProRes is so much better.
@@freddumartin7878 I would actually like the EOS R but the costs of it with the lens and an external recorder to get longer recording is much more expensive.

I don't have a camera with the strap but I think I would use it. I would do some photography with it as well and I go to quite a few farm shows and stuff and the strap so I can hang it on my neck without having to hold it is great. Also, I don't film myself like you do, and I think it helps if you push the strap to its limits and hold the camera out in front of you and I think it helps get a bit better stabilization. Just my thoughts. Great video as well
I have to admit I got a little excited when you tweeted about getting one. I have zero intentions of purchasing, but am always interested to see things evolving...well somewhat evolving with Canon but there's usually some forward motion 😂. I know you were auto everything for this vid, I'm very curious to see side by side comparison with the EOS R when you get it dialed in a bit. Still using a strap at times and shooting a little more 24 FPS for no real reason.
I'm absolutely enjoying the heck out of this camera, I like it FAR more then anything else I've used from Canon released this year. Its only weakness is that 24fps but since I do 30fps its a VERY strong camera.
@@TheEverydayDad Your excitement was very obvious.👍 It's always a great feeling when you get something that works so well for you. I'm not married to 24FPS either. I do have to pay close attention to the weight of my gear otherwise I would be extremely tempted by this.😉
Superlative video, thanks so kindly! I am on the cusp of buying my first Camera like this kind, ever, and after much research, it will be the Canon EOS 90D. Seems amazing!!! Excellent review. ~Daniel
Great looking camera. Negatives I’ve seen are no dual pixel in 120fps, no 24fps oh well I shoot 30 and have another camera for 24 if need be. Positive is it has its own c-log I believe. It’s actually more weather sealed than the 80d. And the app for canon works amazingly easy
Come on Gary! I understand the excitement of a new Canon camera, but it’s a DSLR as you said = photography. I laughed so loud when you were like “uh ... where’s ALL-I...?” 😂 The difference with the EOS R when you switched was brutal, even with the 16-35L. Stick with it please, it’s smaller, full frame, better codecs, hdmi 10bit422, and “just” $400 more. The 90d makes ZERO sense for video. Your recent videos are honestly much better looking since you are using the EOS R, I like the double angle with the GH5 in your studio, it brings a nice dynamic to your always excellent and entertaining videos! Almost 100k subs keep it up, nice progression 👍🏻🎊
You make me want to run out (actually run and click) and buy one. It seems fantastic before you ever even turn it on :) Be careful, you'll change back to Canon again. Good video.
I actually used the strap that came with my GH5, but hate how the camera model is written on there. So I put the strap on the other way around so you can see the writing when the camera strap is being used. Also it would be really cool if you did a video talking about what focus settings you use for the GH5. I know you use the tap to focus, but there's a few different modes you can do that in, so wondered if you noticed a difference in them?
I'm happy that the 90d came fast . So the 80d will be cheaper and make the 70d cheaper which will lower the price of 60d and 50d ,so I can afford the 40d
I was thinking about that today as I'm considering getting a second canon camera to match my EOS R. And personally I'd get the 90d over the RP unless you HAD to have the new RF mount.
I always use the strap because I know at some point I will drop it or let it slip out of my pocket etc so with the strap I just leave it around my neck
Lightsaber Samurai why? 24 frames per second timelines don’t look as good as 30 frames per second timelines on RUclips If your content creator for RUclips you shouldn’t even be using 24P LOL
@@bryanauer I do video stuff outside of RUclips that requires the use of 24p but you make a good point my RUclips channel consists of manly retro games so when it comes to gathering game footage it may be better to put that in a 30p timeline but i my influences on RUclips use 24 so to me I like the look better

In my humble opinion LOL nice chatting with you I enjoy engaging with other content creators
Try other sharpness settings than as low as possible in picture profile. Do not turn it all way down just because you have to do it on other cameras. I have heard that Canon has the area from "soft" to "sharp" and other manufacturers have from "sharp" to "way too much over sharpened".
I still don't understand why they have dropped the 24fps. Have they said why? I have the 80D and I was so ready to upgrade to the 90D but not sure because of the no 24fps. Can't wait to see some side by side comparisons to the Sony A6400 and A6600.
What an awesome video. I just upgraded from my Lumix G7 to the Canon M50 and wish I could afford to have got the 90D instead. It's great that it has its awesome duel pixel Auto focus in 4k, my M50 does not. I too love Canon picture quality and ease of use. Awesome video Sir. Some day I'll be able to upgrade to a 90D for my channel.
David Hayes if you are on a budget maybe you should look at the new Fuji X-A7 to replace your m50. Same tiny size, new flip screen and interface, better frame rates and codecs (4k30 and 1080 up to 120p), good digital IS. $700 with kit lens.
@@freddumartin7878 wow, I'll have to look into that one. I'm a Canon camera fan though, just love the video color science. Thank you for the information.
Best insurance I've ever used is a neck or wrist strap. I even have my dad's old 70s strap for his Pentax Me. It's a non-brand multi-color wide strap, makes me want to put bell bottoms on. (Not really) I've known too many people who didn't use any sort of strap and well...things happened.
@@xavieremond Hmm, that's not right, the 90D 4K isn't as high quality as the EOS R 4k. I'm not sure why you're saying it is. The EOS R has a higher bit rate and a wider dynamic range, can shoot c-log and output in 10-bit to a recorder. The quality is definitely not the same.
great! Finally a real reviewer got a hold of a Canon 90D! I'm sure you'll make more videos and comparisons. I would go with a6400 or EOS R, or XT3 in the middle. The 6600 is too expensive for a mediocre ibis and the infamous rolling shutter. Thinking about it, why anyone would buy the 90d when you can get the fantastic XT3 for about the same price ?
Hey, which lens should i buy for my a6400 for travel? The sigma 16mm 1.4 or 30mm 1.4? Or both? And any suggestions for the sony one’s? Thanks. Learning a lot from your videos
kester apostol if you do videos and have the budget for both maybe you should look at the Sony Zeiss 16-35f4 with oss. You loose 2 stops but you get image stabilization and it’s a great full frame lens if you upgrade later to the A7 series. Also if it’s for travel it gives you both focal lengths in 1 lens and it’s compact ;) For photography all in on the fantastic sigma 16 (eq.24mm) bokehlicious. Hope it helps

I use camera straps when I’m on the road otherwise I don’t because I work professionally and I keep my cameras on a bracket (or bracket free if used for portraits with a radio slave). You’re entirely correct the camera is built very well and with nice finishing material BUT the scroll wheel is terrible and hard to use nothing like the one on the 7D Mark II. For the life of me I can’t see why they could not have used the same kind of scrolling wheel as the aforementioned camera. The top LCD screen is a bit too small compared to the likes of the 7D Although it may be very similar if not the same as the 80d. Other than the improved auto focus and megapixel increase it is somehow not an exciting camera. They don’t come out every year with new cameras (unlike Apple with their phones), so I am not sure why they cannot take the time to slim the camera down and give it a more modern ergonomic look, and easier to hold body (body too bulky)! I gave mine back. I sure hope they make a worthy 7DMark II replacement!!

Nice! I hope you enjoy your new camera, I’m seriously considering buying one of these myself 😁👍
I use the strap on mine, acts as a good third point of contact for run and gun filming so you can get stable(ish) shots!
I'm getting excited to upgrade a canon body someday that's awesome sir the 90D has eye detection so when it comes of photography 🔥👍
I use the Peak Design straps with the little quick release dot things.
Nice! I know those are a very popular option.
I am on the cusp of buying my first Camera like this kind, ever, and after much research,
it will be the Canon EOS 90D.
Seems amazing!!!
Excellent review.
~Daniel
Sony use to give battery chargers with their point and shoots at least, awhile ago.
Awesome videos , love ya man , i lost all my camera equipment in '10 in robbery and can't afford new equipment as I'm on disability
I recently bought a Nikon d7500 and that will most likely be my last DSLR. That said this camera does look interesting. Thanks for the video!
Great looking camera. Negatives I’ve seen are no dual pixel in 120fps, no 24fps oh well I shoot 30 and have another camera for 24 if need be. Positive is it has its own c-log I believe. It’s actually more weather sealed than the 80d. And the app for canon works amazingly easy
cant wait for a longer in depth review...pls pls!
you have honestly helped me out a lot in learning
Outdoor test looked good!
Just like I said last time. For hiking it's good. Also, love your videos. You're amazing!
This is an interesting piece of kit. Thanks for the info, how does this compare on travel vlogs compared to the Canon M50
It’s about twice as much as the m50 but I think the 90d does a great job if you don’t need 24fps.
@@TheEverydayDad, thanks a lot👍
You make me want to run out (actually run and click) and buy one. It seems fantastic before you ever even turn it on :) Be careful, you'll change back to Canon again. Good video.
I actually used the strap that came with my GH5, but hate how the camera model is written on there. So I put the strap on the other way around so you can see the writing when the camera strap is being used.
Also it would be really cool if you did a video talking about what focus settings you use for the GH5. I know you use the tap to focus, but there's a few different modes you can do that in, so wondered if you noticed a difference in them?
Image looks stunning
If you want a better microphone for your DSLR camcorder, I would recommend like a Rode microphone
I use the strap for photography and handheld videography
I'm happy that the 90d came fast . So the 80d will be cheaper and make the 70d cheaper which will lower the price of 60d and 50d ,so I can afford the 40d
Dope! What would you choose? 90D or eos RP?
I was thinking about that today as I'm considering getting a second canon camera to match my EOS R. And personally I'd get the 90d over the RP unless you HAD to have the new RF mount.
@@TheEverydayDad thanks for the reply! Does it state what the bit rate is for 4k and or the 1080p?
Looks good. How do you have the overhead camera mounted for the down view?
Great video An Everymonth Godfather
Great job as usual
I heard today that Canon is going to add 24fps through a firmware update to the 90D and 2 or 3 other cameras.
I always use the strap because I know at some point I will drop it or let it slip out of my pocket etc so with the strap I just leave it around my neck
Damn I needed that 24p!!! That's a deal breaker for me
Lightsaber Samurai why? 24 frames per second timelines don’t look as good as 30 frames per second timelines on RUclips If your content creator for RUclips you shouldn’t even be using 24P LOL
@@bryanauer I do video stuff outside of RUclips that requires the use of 24p but you make a good point my RUclips channel consists of manly retro games so when it comes to gathering game footage it may be better to put that in a 30p timeline but i my influences on RUclips use 24 so to me I like the look better
@@lightsabersamurai1040 With your other projects... how do you deliver the final product? What are your clients viewing the product on?
@@bryanauer my other projects mainly consist of videos for my local school district BTS for a local film and just my RUclips stuff I've shot stuff in 30p but just like 24 better
Lightsaber Samurai I totally understand :) are used to shoot exclusively in 24P but now as long as I know that my project is going to be played back and viewed by the end user on an iPhone, computer, TV, anything other than a 24P projector onto a silver screen… 30P is more pleasing to the eye... In my humble opinion LOL nice chatting with you I enjoy engaging with other content creators
Been using cameras for 50 years and the first thing I was ever taught was to put the strap round your neck before you even pick it up.
Never ever use the “come rob me strap”!
?
Lol why do they even make straps with red lines it's like driving a Lambo at a fresh market.
Wow stabilization looks pretty darn good! Just can’t really get past the lack of 24fps.
The 90d footage looks a lot better than the footage you are using with camera you filmed this video with.
Try other sharpness settings than as low as possible in picture profile. Do not turn it all way down just because you have to do it on other cameras. I have heard that Canon has the area from "soft" to "sharp" and other manufacturers have from "sharp" to "way too much over sharpened".
Time for me to upgrade from my Canon M50 do you agree
Last month I was undecided between Fujifilm xt30 and Sony a6300 but now I want this Canon 90d.😂😂
I still don't understand why they have dropped the 24fps. Have they said why? I have the 80D and I was so ready to upgrade to the 90D but not sure because of the no 24fps. Can't wait to see some side by side comparisons to the Sony A6400 and A6600.
Your videos are the best on YT
Great review as always 🙂this is the do it all Canon camera .Just imagine if it was full frame !!!
Sometimes I just watch your videos because I really love your voice. 😁 Nice, nice voice. Have you ever tried being a radio DJ? 😜
Nice video! From what I can see it has clean hdmi out, but won't record internally when enabled?
Looks good outside and indoors video
Personally I mainly use a blackrapid strap but sometimes I use a canon strap because it’s one that has Bring It on it and I thought it was cool
Eos r or 90 d ??
It looks great Gary 👍 and yes I use the Cannon strap lol.
Love your videos The Everyday Dad ! - can you tell me or all of us what the data rate is on the 4K or 1080p video ? Thank you :-)
how do you like 4k quality vs. EOS R?
aumrdoc i have an eos R ans a 90D as a B camera. Tbh the only thing is better on the eos r is the RH lenses compability. The footage look the same.
But dont forget to install cinestyle on 90D tho
@@xavieremond Hmm, that's not right, the 90D 4K isn't as high quality as the EOS R 4k. I'm not sure why you're saying it is. The EOS R has a higher bit rate and a wider dynamic range, can shoot c-log and output in 10-bit to a recorder. The quality is definitely not the same.
cooloox I also have c-log on my 90D. Check it out on google. Cinestyle technicolor
cooloox I don’t see a difference between both video tbh
great! Finally a real reviewer got a hold of a Canon 90D! I'm sure you'll make more videos and comparisons. I hope that for the next video you can adjust the picture profile a bit...is the 1080p better than the 80d's? the 4k uncropped looks soft...nothing like the sony alphas...but how about the 4k cropped? pls do a test if you can sir..and finally..how is the low light performance for video...I have a 70d (which I will give to my 15 year old nephew as his first real DSLR) and the footage is soft but pleasant but low light performance for video is bad even with a good lens (like a Sigma 18-35mm f1.8)- I don't dare go over 1600ISO with thte 70d...is the 90d better? lower noise? etc...I can live without 24p-I do events and I can't spend a fortune on the EOS R-besides all my lenses are APS-C...I'm asking too much I know...you see I want a Canon camera to be a B camera to my trusted C100 mk2- this camera has really good 1080p and most of my work is in 1080p...4k would be used sometimes...thanks for sharing your video!
I'm still trying to decide. 90d or a6600. I do currently have the t7i so to upgrade to 90d it's easier and cheaper. But sony AF has me interested.
Do you use 24fps or 30fps?
I would go with a6400 or EOS R, or XT3 in the middle. The 6600 is too expensive for a mediocre ibis and the infamous rolling shutter. Thinking about it, why anyone would buy the 90d when you can get the fantastic XT3 for about the same price ?
How about the low light capabilities compared to its older brother?
I'll have to see if I can get ahold of an 80d to do that.
@@TheEverydayDad that would be great. Will be waiting for that.
Fred Dumartin thanks man I’ll check those suggestions
Can you tell what kind of mini tripod is that?
I'm looking for one for my camera what can support it's weight.
Or can you suggest one for me? (70D with 18-135mm)
cant wait for canon m60
Love canon..at the way..great unboxing from an average day just as u but u have more gear lol..keep up the good work brother...im.from trinidad and tobago
Lol never use a strap at all :-) over the next couple of weeks I would love to see some test on the ISO in low light
the micro USB has been upgraded to ?
yes i use it
Of course I use the strap! Extra stability
