The hook on your tripod is to place like a sandbag on it, so it makes the tripod more stable in different environments like outdoor windy conditions. You won't have to worry about it blowing over
I *think* the hook on the bottom of your tripod is so that you can hang your camera bag and don’t have to put it on the floor, the weight will help stabilise the tripod as well.

the gimble works with phones aswell, but balancing it will make you crazy. 2mm off and the gimble will go crazy ..if you do try your phone on the zhiyun m2, after you think it's balanced drip it down with the phone on it at a -45 degree angle.. If it buzzes like the motors straining, move the phone about 2mm back till it doesn't buzz the motor ..Search jeven Dovey, hes a person on YT to checkout on gimble techniques etc. another youtube Micheal the Maven has some great howto vids on the 90D
the tripod hook is for a sandbag if you ever get a large lens for the 90D and attach it to the tripod, it won't fallow over with a sandbag attached(counter weight) of the sandbag will keep it stable

Tip, when you switch your lens, keep the camera body face down so the sensor is exposed to less light and the dust won't settle :)
