Hey guys sorry about the repeated lines and also the butchered pronunciation of Le Mans! Mistakes happen lol and should have done some due diligence on that one. Hope you still enjoy the video
It’s criminal that the Atlantic was never mass produced. Then again, they probably would have built it with only a Dodge Caravan V6 and a 4 speed auto. 🤢
They're just showing off and never really intend to. The proof is that they just somehow didn't think of the legally required bumpers and then used that as an excuse not to produce them. They aren't that stupid. Take a look at the Talbot Lago at 2:32 that was a partial inspiration and had a very functional bumper, so don't tell us that it couldn't be done with this sort of coupe.
@@MikeV8652 Bumpers don't seem necessary these days as everyone has been brainwashed to accept crumple zones that practically write-off a car at slightest crash.
they kinda did in the late 90’s early 2000’s with the Prowler, PT cruiser, Baja, ect. They usually aren’t very successful cars, but they sure do add some color to the automotive world.
same, I mean...I understand mispronouncing foreign words...but come on, this is the first time I've even heard an american pronounce le mans wrong... still, rather than being annoying, it was mainly funny, so Marspeed gets a pass xD
No, your not going mad. It happened. Although, EVERYONE is mad in their own unique way. For exaple: The Mad Hatter to Alice: "Have I gone mad?" Alice: "I'm afraid so. You're completely bonkers. But I'll tell you a secret, all the best people are."
I saw the Atlantic at the 1995 Pebble Beach Concours d'Élégance. I will never forget how stunningly beautiful this concept car was. A few feet away, there was also a Bugatti EB112. The Atlantic looked much more like a Bugatti than the EB112, which I found hilarious in its own way. I was able to talk to Bob Lutz, congratulated him on that concept masterpiece and asked him when it would go to production. He said "probably not". I told him, well Mr Lutz, you just lost a client. I wanted to buy it so bad. To this say, I think it is one of the greatest concept cars ever.
I'd have loved to see them make a production straight eight just for the quirk factor. 360hp wasn't too bad for 95. Dodge loves their big ass wheels. b
The Chrysler Atlantic always looked like something that SHOULD have been made, but i can understand WHY it has not been made as it simply did not really have any reasonable 'clientele' It probably would have ended up looking vastly different due to regulations regarding crash impact safety, it would have been unpractical in certain areas (front view, cleaning, drag, etc) and would have looked a lot 'toned down', and likely would end up weighing too much and having too little power from an underpowered engine. It certainly would have become a great 'hot rod' car as i'm sure people would have spooned in big V8s. It's one of the few cars that should have been built though. It REALLY looked SO GOOD. It reminds me a lot of Jaguars from the 50s too. Instead, we had the Chrysler Crossfire. Not actually a ugly car, but it's 'just' a rebodied Mercedes roadster.
So, would you agree this could be the beginning of the retro futurism fad? Looks quite ahead of the time for 1995 yet still a product of the past. I can't say I know of any other cars before this one that would have brought about the mid to late 90's to mid 00's retro futuristic fad.
Vw new beetle concept is from the same time, Prowler technically as well. Heck, I think the whole retro thing technically has never started as harking back to older eras has been done in every era since the sixties (don't forget that almost all personal luxury cars of those days tried to emulate the luxury phaeton feel of Thirties cars)
Great Video, thanks for putting more light on it. I love styling of it since momet I saw it in magazine from one of US car shows when it was presented for first time. I felt like there was matrix glitch with audio twice but other than that really enjoyed it. Thanks.
I think this is a stunning car. Retro yes, but gorgeous. The interior looks like it was not as interesting at the time, but now it too would be 90s Retro and cool because of that. As for the engine. One Neon engine is a horrible thing. Two Neon engines is completely horrific. Besides that, as a Chrysler it would have been unreliable. Of course this was only ever going to be a concept car. Imagine how expensive it would have been to actually produce. Plus the built-in unreliability. Having said that. I do think Chrysler always came up with the best concept cars out of the big three. I will always great fully thank Chrysler for giving us the Airflow in 1934. Such a shame that all their vehicles today are such rubbish.
Anyone else think the front end resembles Nosferatu? Doesn't mean I think it was an ugly design. I just think it's Nosferatu-ey. It even kinda looks like it's wearing a cape.
"Le Mans" is pronounced "Le Mons", with the s being very truncated, "Le Mohnn" even. What I think of the video? I think you messed up the audio tracks in the edit going by the number of repeat phrases.
4:03 The graphic on the building / structure in the background makes it LOOK LIKE the Surbaisse (Lowered) Compresseur (supercharger) has a VERY long tail which looks like a MOUSE tail. Therefore that car looks like a MOUSE with a long nose. Just slap some mouse ears on the ROOF and you have a MOUSE car!!
Another of Chrysler's failed attempts to stay relevant. Yeah, that would have been a really nice upgrade and reply to the Prowler. They really blew it when they got rid of Plymouth as well. They had a really nice lineup picked out for them that they never built.

Chrysler NEEDS a flagship car like this. The Chrysler of the 90's thought of cars like this, todays MOPAR, not so much.

I think this Chrysler Atlantic should come out and share a platform with Maserati and have performance engines from Maserati in it.
It will always be better than welding 2 Neon engines to make a "Bugatti"
Close to 100k :)
It’s beautiful
The atlantic viper and prowler all sharing the v10, a trans axle in the rear wouldve lowered costs and created a good base platform

I think it was the XK120 designed by Pininfarina, a one-off
