This is such an important topic for me. I wish I could pay closer attention but that girl in white shorts 3:52 will forever be my handycap. Keep up the lords work Meandmygolf.
Yep 2:40. That's something all beginners who have a slice problem should be aware of. The hip rotation will square the clubface rapidly in the quadrant before hitting the ball, and "hitting to the right" will actually make the ball go straight!
Thank you for sharing your meeting with Martin Chuck to the masses! His instruction and way of explaining the swing is top notch. Although it's not often you're on this side of the pond, I hope to see Martin doing more collaborative work with you two!
Hey guys I'm a huge fan of your videos. I want to know how does someone become a PGA Professional? it has always been a dream of mine to play golf for a living.
What do I do if my face is closed at the top like DJ's but my wrist is flat and my grip is perfect. I started to cup my wrist but it is very inconsistent
If your wrist is flat with a closed face then your grip isn't "perfect", it's strong. There's no such thing as a perfect grip; there are pros and cons of strong, neutral and weak grips.
I'd need to see your swing then mate because there's only two elements of your arm structure that controls the face-plane relationship, grip and cup. If, as you say, your wrist is indeed flat, then the only way for the face to be closed is your grip. I personally play a slightly strong grip because my natural path is in-to-out. If I want to hit a cut all I need to do is weaken my grip, which opens the face slightly throughout the swing.
Luke, you are twisting the club somewhere if you start "perfect" then get closed. Grip the club lead arm only. Then swing it to your top of backswing. I think you'll find that the face and wrist match up a little better. Then put your your trail hand on the grip. I bet your hands feel different. After gripping the club "at the top," bring the arms/club unit to address and see what feels different. Cheers, Martin
The neutral wrist set is confusing me a bit. I understand and it makes sense but the top of swing if it neutral it points the club left of target and always thought ideally it should be parallel to target.
Robbie, the shaft will point at some location depending on your flexibility. "Parallel" assumes your body can do that. I haven't found too many folks able to get a club to parallel without overbending their trail arm or cupping their lead wrist. Don't get too wrapped up in getting to parallel.
SOMETIME FOR SOME REASON I tend to play golf with the club face closing before I even get to ball. Where is this error coming in..drives me crazy. GRIP SEEMS CORRECT TO START. I can play to a 83..age 78 Female
Martin is one hell of a teacher. And a proud Canadian on top of that. :)
He's a top guy and instructor Stephane.
Martin always seems so sincere and goes about himself with a great rhythm

If you strengthen your grip at address, what other adjustment is needed for clubface at the top? None ?

I have a weak grip my golf coach says its perfect and it's not causing my club face

check your takeaway as the clubface might get closed at that stage
actually there is nothing wrong with a slightly closed clubface to be honest

Tour Striker thanks for the explanation. 👍
