Thank you T.J. this really helped. I also realized I had part of my hand over the end of the grip like you demonstrated. Keep up the great content.
Excellent. This is a common issue with players that struggle with a flip or scoop at impact. A "weak" grip puts the wrist in a position of extension much easier than a neutral or "stronger" grip with most players. I am glad it has helped. Thanks for watching and the support! T.J.

Great video. I noticed a tempo value on the bottom left of the screen. I struggle with tempo consistency, especially on the course. When i am playing badly, fat shots behind the ball, lack of compression, its usually due to rushing or trying to "hit" the ball as opposed to swinging the club. Once I mentally recongise this, I slow down and everything becomes better sequenced. Tempo and rhythm is my demon

I struggle terribly because our brains are incredible at the ability to strike the golf ball (poorly albeit) with a really lousy swing. No weight shift, adding dynamic loft, steep lumberjack to name a few. Somehow our brain gets it going forward (with mostly tops and fats). I'm guilty of all these bad habits you described in this great content vid. I need to put a stop to these ingrained swing habits with a lot of proper practice. Absolutely and thank you for watching and commenting! Fantastic question and I realized after I really never addressed that. Yes. The major difference is ball position. In theory the ball position will be forward so once you fall into your lead side your center of pressure will be behind the ball. This in theory puts that low point before the ball giving yourself space to deliver the club with a positive Angle of Attack. Does that make sense? T.J.
TJ.. thanks for videos, I’m new to your channel but will visit again.. something I struggle with is sand play both fairway and green side.. any help will be appreciated. Thanks and stay bless..
Hi Jerry, first check on those set up basics. Make sure the ball isn't getting too far forward in your stance. As simple as that sounds sometimes it is the culprit with long clubs. Remember, you are also still striking the ball on the downswing with fairway woods we aren't sweeping or picking. Thanks for the comment and I appreciate you watching! T.J.
It is definitely a common struggle with a lot of players. I am going to be positing a compilation of compression drills in the coming few days that will compliment this video. Thank you for watching. I appreciate it. T.J.
Good day mr.TJ, my name is livingstone, I am a subscriber of your channel. Thank you for your insight on the golf swing. It has been very helpful to me. I was wondering what is the name of your golf similar or the the projector. I love the size of the screen. Also your set up.i would love to get that information. Thank you.
Hi Livingston, thank you for the question. In the studio I have a Uneekor Eye XO optical launch monitor with the Uneekor Swing Optix Cameras and pressure mat. The projector is the BenQlk936st. The screen size is 20x12. I'll do a studio tour soon. Thanks for watching and the questions!
TJ, this is a great video. My biggest frustration is hitting the ball fat with my irons. I’ve been trying to get my weight more on my lead (left) side during the downswing, but still hitting some fat shots. I like the fourth factor - intentionally trying to hit the ball lower - so I’ll try that next time out. Question: is there a way to intentionally create the “lag” everyone talks about, or delay the release of the club? It seems like inertia and momentum from the swing will naturally release the club face. Is this controllable?
Thank you for watching! Long answer short. Lag should be a natural and not forced angle. If the angle between your lead forearm and shaft of club is increasing early (casting etc) it could be a grip issue. Weaker grips (hands turned to the left on the grip for a right handed golfer) will have a tendency to produce an early release or loss of lag too early in the downswing. Does that make sense?
@ Yes it does, thanks. I used to play with a strong grip, hitting a draw. I recently returned to the game after a 12-15 year hiatus and have adopted a neutral grip and a more rotational swing. Maybe I’ll try gradually strengthening my grip and see if it makes a difference, but I think keeping more weight on the lead side is crucial. Thanks for replying.
I struggle with shaft lean also and digging the club too far in the ground on my actual swing. My pre swings are brushing the grass but actual strike swing digs
I'll throw this drill into one of my upcoming videos but try this the next time you are on the range. Tee up a ball an inch and try to pick the ball off the tee with a 7 iron. Once you do that for about 10 swings move the tee down and follow that same plan until the ball is back on the ground. The body does a great job at self organizing due to the unique situation. You have to "pick" the ball a bit more when the ball is on the tee due to it being off the ground. Does that make sense? Thanks for watching and commenting. I greatly appreciate it! T.J.
I struggle with rotation and extension sequence after the fall -too early extension or sometimes delayed extension causing club to hit ground way before the golf ball.
Thanks for the question. At what point in the swing are you referring too? Really depends on the grip of the particular player and the dynamic movement of the body. There is no one size fits everyone. I am assuming you are speaking from a right handed point of view. The left wrist (subject to starting point on the club) moves through space and time going from more extension to less extension to possibly flexing at impact all depending on the player. Again, tough to be general with this question. Thanks for watching! T.J.
I need help with: Different grips on different clubs, extension hinge with different clubs. Different ball placement different clubs. Consistent shoulder lead maintaining arm extensions, looking up for the 'the lory' shot. Timing of follow through. These issues result in: hitting fat, hitting right, lack of power, topping.
Do you know what your driver club head speed is? Sounds like an odd question but I might be able to give you a best without seeing your swing. Thanks for watching! T.J.

Unfortunately I see it a good amount. You have to remember the large sample size I see. In fact, a new remote student I had today was about a 1/4 inch over the top of the cap. Reduces stability and moves the applied forces the grip gives dynamically. Thanks for watching! T.J.
Swinging the club like a baseball bat. In order to generate power in a baseball swing, you need to "snap" release that bat, creating a lot of speed. Apparently, you can't do that in golf. I don't believe you can be a power hitter in baseball with "forward bat lean", but you absolutely need forward shaft lean in golf. There must be thousands of people who have played baseball who struggle with this. Would like to see a video on this subject.
Love these talking points. I might do a video on this but in short. There is very little "snap" in baseball as the structure of the trail wrist stays in extension a long time even through the hitting zone until the mass of the barrel starts to work around the hands. Look at Mookie, Judge, Shohei just to name a few. (amount subject to pitch location and intent). Part of the reason is the distribution of mass across the bat among others reasons including the differential between bat speed and hand speed. Flipping in baseball is very common among kids due to strength and hand speed and ultimately everything else in between (mechanics, type of pitch etc). In golf the differential between hand speed and the speed at which the club head is traveling is very large. We need the hands to "decelerate" in order for the club head to reach its destination at the proper time. Think how a trebuchet works (essentially a double pendulum) one arm moves fast first and then slows down to allow the second arm to fling. In order to get the energy into the second arm the first arm has to slow down to a stop. The first arm in the trebuchet is our arms and hands. The second arm is the club. Players struggle (flip or scoop) when this is out of order. Now the out of order can be caused by a lot of things such as ones I discussed in the video. The "snap" in golf is the hands slowing down to let the club head catch up. BUT the hands still need to be slightly forward at impact which means the club doesn't reach full alignment with the arms till after the ball....I know, a lot there to digest. Simple and complex physics and bio mechanics at work! I'm terrible at explaining these things on paper so I probably will do a video lol. Thanks for watching! T.J.
Work on those concepts. My next video I am releasing has 4 drills to work on impact that might help as well. Thank you for watching. I appreciate it! T.J.
Me too. Weight forward. You should feel like the club face strikes the ball well after your hands have swung past the ball. Keep wrist bent backwards as long as you can

Check out this short I did a while back. This drill might help.ruclips.net/user/shorts2odFcTQSJ7k Thanks for watching and commenting. Much appreciated! T.J.
Most likely coming too much from the inside
Hitting and compressing the ball.
I have a few videos in the queue on this topic. Keep an eye out for those. Thanks for watching!
Driving
I have never seen someone have fingers hanging off the top of the grip. I can't believe that is a issue.
Unfortunately I see it a good amount. You have to remember the large sample size I see. In fact, a new remote student I had today was about a 1/4 inch over the top of the cap. Reduces stability and moves the applied forces the grip gives dynamically. Thanks for watching! T.J.
Hits my driver to right
You can most definitely fix that. I’m adding that to my list of videos coming your way.
Hitting the ball solid. Low point of my swing moves back and forth.
Putting
Any particular part of putting? Short, lag, green reading, speed…or all of the above? Thanks for watching!
driving
Anything In particular with your driving? Thank you for watching!
I actually noticed that I hold the club beyond the butt end of the club....hmmm
Definitely something to mess around with a bit to see if it changes anything.
Intention is Huge T..
Hit left is biggest issue.
I am assuming you are a rightly? In my queue is a couple of videos addressing left misses for righties. Thanks for watching!
If I could get the club under the ball then I’d be in heaven 😢
You can and you will! 2025 is your year!
I hit it fat and flip all the time
Work on those concepts. My next video I am releasing has 4 drills to work on impact that might help as well. Thank you for watching. I appreciate it! T.J.
Downswing
I will certainly be addressing downswing issues in the near future. I appreciate you watching!
Bottom line is…the positioning of the ball.
can't hit ball first
Keep an eye out for a drill series on ball first contact coming up in a few days. Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate it! T.J.
Has to be putting inside 4 feet
I have a short game series coming up that addresses this aspect. One of the biggest low hanging fruit areas of improvement is exactly this!
Hitting fat is my biggest problem.
Me too. Weight forward. You should feel like the club face strikes the ball well after your hands have swung past the ball. Keep wrist bent backwards as long as you can
Inconcistancy
Too much talking 😢 get to the point quicker
Vids are way too long for today's crowd.
He is not looking for scrollers… he is looking for GOLFERS. We play a game that takes 4 hours, 20 something minutes is worth it to fix problems. He knows his audience
For me - listening to any instructor for 24 minutes is to much. Just my opinion, how about 4 shorter videos?
That’s ok. Longer explanations are not for everyone. Check out my shorts. I have over 100 1 minute takes on all aspects of golf. Enjoy!
@@TJVGolf Thanks for the response. I appreciate the fact you weren't offended and I'll check out your short videos. Hopefully we'll find a happy middle ground and we'll both benefit. thanks.
