This is something I would like to build for my FX30. I'm constantly concerned about the flex in the audio handle but also don't want to lost its capability. Always love these types of rig setups. One thing I've always wanted to know is how much an exterior fan like that actually helps with cooling given it doesn't actually have direct air access to any of the hot components. Is blowing air on the exterior enough to make a big difference? Would be great to see a bit of testing in a hot environment in future ones like this.

  • @andrewjones-productions

This is an excellent solution. Whilst I fully understand the capabilities and excellence of mirrorless cameras, I do not like the form factor and much prefer a video/cinema camera style body. Sony, having finally implemented the articulating flip-out screen (a few models back), have allowed for this kind of build and flexibility. The next technological step-forward is for mirrorless cameras to have ND filters built-in, although I suspect that this is still quite a way off in the future. Another advantage of this build is that it meets certain customers' expectations of a professional turning up with a 'proper camera'. I have been on many shoots where I have my FS7 and a colleague with the latest A7s and the customer thinking that the FS7 is superior, just because of size. In some ways, it is and in many ways it isn't but the customer doesn't want to hear a long explanation on this. I also suspect that this build also helps with stabilising the camera when using handheld and that is a feature that helps with picture quality!
