Seems like a good first iteration, and really stoked to see stuff like this at all. Personally I think the many suggestions to accommodate the XLR handle and power via USB-C instead of dummy battery are spot on. I also think the rig is overly long- seems like it could easily be tightened up by a couple of inches, to have the back edge of the LCD flush with the back edge of the battery when tucked into the slot (at least with that slim battery you've got). I would also want to have the mount/dismount for the camera be much faster- ideally have the camera/cage slot into the system via the Arca Swiss plate on the bottom of the cage, and the Nato rail on top. So you just slide the camera in from the right side of the rig, and tighten a couple of clamps. The cold shoe on that SmallRig cage would block this but perhaps you could offer a modified version with it cut off, or maybe SmallRig would be interested in partnering with you on a new cage?
You were made for this! In 2016 I went to you for info on rigging builds and still today I’m here watching because you are the king of the cinema build at affordable prices… Thank you. ❤
I'm new to rigging out camera's and i could really use some help. I have the FX30, Sony ECM-B1M shotgun mic and the Sigma 18-50mm. I want to add a monitor and a battery and i have no clue how to do it. Any other recommended accesoires for my setup are also welcome. If its possible i would like to keeo it budget friendly
Absolutely, before production begins it would be a major selling point to be able to use the MI connection and top handle XLR unit. It may involve producing a bridging plate, or extra support point or a possible custom cage solution other than SmallRig, but it would be worth the extra effort. Apart from this I love the concept . 👍
Looks great. Would be awesome to have an alternative audio option to the audio top handle. Some adaptive cold shoe you could install somewhere else on the rig. Hope it makes sense😊

Hi Caleb, Just worked with the Sony FX3 Firmware 4 to discover a major change has occurred since FW 3. If a dummy battery adapter is used the FX3 monitor will display an error message. As I understand Sony did this deliberately as the Sony batteries intelligently communicate to the camera and will reduce the risk of a corrupted file should the battery die during recording. We decided to power the camera via the USB input instead. I recommend you advise buyers of the potential power and/or clip corruption issue either by placing a warning label on the cage or in the instructions and/or the website.
@@micahaka Powering the FX3 requires inserting the Sony internal battery into the camera then using an external USB charger or PD power bank such as Tether Tools Onsite USB C battery pack (26,800 mAh, 100 W PD) . Hey Caleb, this looks really exciting. One tiny question on my end though - where would one add an audio adapter like the Sony XLR-K3M to this rig? I know, it's a "cine" rig, so one would assume sound gets recorded separately, but as I'm asked to film interviews quite a bit, having a capable audio setup (with XLR ports and good preamps) included in the rig is necessary. I love my XLR-K3M, so if there's a configuration that would take this into account, I'd love to know.
I agree with this comment. That top cheese plate needs to be custom milled to allow for the XLR-K3M. People can buy the cameras without the Sony Handle and then separately buy the XLR-K3M unit. Then, they can build out their camera with or without Audio XLR inputs.

Hi guy ! First of all, Great Work ! The config is incredible! I wanted to tell you, your D-Tape cable, please reverse it. You just have to remove the small screw on the connectors and you can reverse the cable passage. There is a small piece that acts as a plug, on the opposite side of the cable, you just need to reverse it on its side too. And you will no longer have the cable running towards the battery when it is plugged into your D-Tape multi.
Hi Caleb awesome work man 👍🏻 this is a fantastic way to rig the fx3/fx30 please make something similar for the Lumix S5iix please please 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 greetings from Germany
I just switched over to sony from Canon. I've had everything from the R6 to the C300 mkiii. My last Sony camera set was 2 Canon C70's. By going to the C70, I was able to get more features by the continuous firmware updates that pretty much stopped on the C300mkiii. What I lost in that switch was the SDI outputs, which i overcame by buying a blackmagic converter which needed another power port. The C70 also has a continuous issue with the flimsy flip out LCD screen. I heard about it before purchase, so I was very careful with it and it still eventually needed to be sent to canon to fix. Your little housing not only looks streamline and professional, but would solve these 2 issues, in your CineBack. I just sold them and bought an FX6 because of this issue, and plan on getting an FX3 for my second camera. When I do, I will buy your Cineback for it. I just thought I'd let you know that there is a real need in the Canon C70 user market for you product. Keep up the good work.

i'm refreshing this video almost everyday. I really want this rig but it's sold out.. when do you think there will be a new batch release? and can I pre-order?

That’s such a great product. Great work Caleb!
WOW!!!! I’m drooling over the plans to have the HDMI to SDI option with multiple output ports all built in. Holy smokes! That would be a dream!
Oooh, oooh, oooh - can how easily can this be modified to fit other cameras? Love to get something like this for my S5IIX!
Looks amazing! gonna insta buy a S5IIX Model
