    Just built my Sony A7III with Smallrig/ Tilta/ Falcam/ Sirui/ Osee parts. It's a beast! The dummy battery compartment on my camera has a little rubber that slides out a bit, so my dummy battery cable can come out and run to my VBattery. I'm looking at the FX30 now, so this is great. Seeing how similar your build is to mine. Building out my other Sony A7III into the backup, photo gear is four (4) Canon 1Dx Mark III bodies. I was a wedding photographer for 25 years, so I have TONS of photo gear. The Sony gear is just my new hobby thing, documenting people. Something I realized I should have done before my dad passed away... so, I'm doing it now for others.

    Love the rig! A word of caution to the dummy battery - couple of folks have bricked their systems. Safer to use USB PD from a power bank or small rig v mount!

    • @BenGleasonMedia
      @BenGleasonMedia  Год назад +12

      Totally valid! There is always a risk when using dummy batteries, that’s why I HIGHLY recommend the Kondor Blue cable. Its a very high end cable that has been tested over and over again, BUT if you don’t want to have any chance then I totally agree to use the USB-C port to power the camera.

    • @GlobalShutterNY
      @GlobalShutterNY Год назад +2

      V-mount USB-C is much easier/ safer than dummy battery IMHO

    • @unlockthepicture
      @unlockthepicture Год назад +1

      @@GlobalShutterNY I am always wondering with USB-PD. Doesnt that harm your battery?

    • @GlobalShutterNY
      @GlobalShutterNY Год назад +2

      Many current (pun intended!) V-Mount Batteries have USB-C PD outputs - that is what they are designed for - so no-def does not harm the V-Mount battery. At least for the Sony FX30 the USB-C PD input in the camera not only runs the camera but charges the battery you have installed - so if you ever need the rig stripped down for discreet run-n-gun you are charged and ready to go as well. Win/win. I also use the other V-Mount battery output to run my monitor. @@unlockthepicture

    Not gonna lie it kinda bugs me all of these youtubers with top tier rigs when they're spending most of the time on their desks. Not saying this is the case, but most of the time these guys are just pumping gear down our throats :( Gear reviews really have to change

    • @BenGleasonMedia
      @BenGleasonMedia  8 месяцев назад +37

      You know, I actually agree with you. I've honestly been feeling the same way, not just with other peoples content but absolutely my own. Fortunately, RUclips is not my full time job and my main source of income IS making videos, just for other people. I'm not out shooting music videos, high end commercials or feature films with my camera rig. In fact a majority of my paid video work is creating social media content for OTHER people. Which puts me in an interesting position, unlike other full-time creators, to not rely on sponsorships or paid reviews in order to support my channel. Don't get me wrong I LOVE reviewing camera gear and would love it if my RUclips channel was my full-time gig, but something definitely needs to change... in fact its going to! 👏

    • @Kaotix_music
      @Kaotix_music 4 месяца назад +2

      honestly its a good time to be alive that we have all these RUclipsrs making these reviews but you can decide for yourself what to get and what not to get. I think it's the fault of yourself if you go out and buy every single piece of kit and gear RUclipsrs push at you. You have to decide whats worth it for you and what is not. For example, how much RUclipsrs pushed down my throat the FX3 and full-frame is king. I have always shot on APSC and im on the FX30 and I have yet to ever see a legitimate reason to get a whole new camera - simply because its full frame. Side by side, the image is the same. Anytime a RUclipsr wants to keep telling me full frame is the end all be all, I tune out. Its not. Ive made that decision on my own through actual personal experience.

    what's the reason behind not just mounting v mount plate on rails but buying a seperate system? Doesnt it take away lot of flexibility as far as distance is concerned? As with rails, you can mount battery plate further away from screen and also this provides you with an opportunity to buy a plate with bunch of d-taps and ports?

    • @BenGleasonMedia
      @BenGleasonMedia  9 месяцев назад

      The reason is really behind allowing use of a V-mount without the rails. This entire system could be run, with an AF lens, without rails. Otherwise, I am completely on your side that an actual v-mount plate would allow for more power options and flexibility. Not against it, just didn't do it in this build. 😄
